Présentation de l'éditeur

The devil's weaknesses far outnumber his strengths.

"Know your enemy" is an ancient military principle that has stood the test of time; yet we forget this when we enter the spiritual battlefield. How much do you really know about Satan? Is misinformation inadvertently hurting you and your loved ones?

In this accessible, hands-on book, respected pastor and broadcaster Duane Vander Klok reveals the devil's true limits--and exposes all the things he cannot do. In doing so, Pastor Duane equips you to take a firm grip on the spiritual weapons Jesus gave us and to wield them more effectively. He also shows you how to pinpoint, and then to reclaim, the areas in which you have unknowingly given the enemy influence in your life.

Don't give the devil more power than he actually has. Through Jesus, you have authority to defeat him. It's time to put him in his place.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Great tool to witness! 22 avril 2015
Par KellyS - Publié sur
Format: Broché
From cover to cover, Duane Vander Klok does a very good job at covering the bases of his thoughts and depictions of the 21 ideas behind staying Satan's attempt to lure and sway.
This book is an awesome tool to witness - if you are going to walk in the war against Satan, you must bear arms!

All 9 chapters are thoughtfully written, including passages to research and reflect on in addition to the author's thoughts. Such topics the author has reflected on include obedience, righteousness, salvation, faith, prayer and spiritual life, just to name a few. It's to our own advantage as Christians to prepare against a possibly assault from Satan, and the more aware we are, the better off we are.

One of my favorite passages, from Chapter 6, simply put states "walk in obedience with the Lord -
you are delivered and protected in Jesus name."

There is a handy 14 page quick reference guide as well included at the conclusion of chapter 9, which is super helpful, especially if you'd like to use this book as a learning guide, reference or teaching manual for small groups, bible studies, etc.

This is not an easy read and takes time, consideration, serenity. It read to me almost like a college text book but it's very informative. In my review notes, I wrote down Romans 12:2 "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will." While not everything that happens to you, especially the bad stuff, is God's will, the devil promotes that ire ~ he permits resistance, plants the seed.

Stand strong in faith is a good message to deliver!

4.0 étoiles sur 5 A demonic expose' on Satan that arms us, as Christians, to banish his strongholds on us forever. 28 novembre 2014
Par Jeris Real Reviews - Publié sur
Format: Broché
No, I will not list the 21 things! Ha! Duane Vander Klok has written a demonic expose' on Satan that arms us, as Christians, to banish his strongholds on us forever. He points out that we frequently react "in fear and panic" when we should be using the authority of Jesus Christ to make him flee.
The author enumerates the long list of tools we already have in our box and gives us the biblical insight to put those to use. Written in an easy to read, almost conversational manner, Duane takes us through such topics as Sizing Up the Enemy, where he presents the basics of the Devil's limitations. He reminds us (or informs us) that Satan cannot read our mind, cannot predict the future and is not "omni-anything!" The victory is already ours through the blood of Christ and we need to live like it is. He discusses spiritual laws the Devil cannot break, things the Devil cannot do to believers, and signs of "Demon Trouble." He further discusses how to expose the enemy's weaknesses. He includes a chapter on uncovering the enemy's tactics.
This is a thorough and concise discussion of defeating Satan's hold on our life. The examples and illustrations are well written and recognizable. Yes, there most definitely is a list of 21 things and it is worth reading and considering. This book is a useful resource with enough scripture to illustrate each point. I would have liked even more scripture reference which I feel would have aided me in my own study and reading. As in many books of this nature, the author is drawing us a picture of "things" we may already know from the Bible but do not always take to heart for use in our Christian walk. I appreciated the reminder of the power I already have to defeat the Devil's influence in my life and any stronghold he may have over me. This is recommended reading in my opinion. I give 21 Things the Devil Cannot Do four stars.
I received a complimentary review copy of this book from the publisher, Chosen, in exchange for my honest review. These words are my opinion.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Bold Title on Spiritual Warfare 1 décembre 2014
Par Dr Conrade Yap - Publié sur

Too many believers have lived in fear and insecurity when they start to focus on what the devil can do instead of what the devil cannot do. As a result, people are deceived and forget that the devil is not as formidable as these deceptions paint him to be. "Know your enemy" seems to be the focus of lead pastor and author, Duane Vander Klok. The underlying exhortation in this book is this: Don't overestimate the power of the devil and underestimate the reality of the truth. Like many preachers and teachers of the pentecostal traditions, Klok begins by telling us the importance of rightly sizing up our enemies. Don't over or underestimate his ability. For Colossians 1:11-14 reminds us that believers are already rescued, freed from bondage, and empowered to be victors in God's kingdom. Knowing the enemy means learning the truth about the devil and what spiritual warfare entails. In three chapters, he listed all 21 things that the Devil cannot do. This is followed by 12 signs to uncover the devil's tactics. Finally, Klok comes back with a "cure," that says only Jesus can save. He conveniently lists all the 21 things and 12 signs toward the end of the book for readers' convenience. I suspect this chapter alone would be thumbed through most often by readers.

This book comes with a rather bold title that declares straightaway what the devil cannot do. That is very typically Pentecostal style. The triumphalistic tone is consistent throughout the book and those who face spiritual darkness and challenges right now would feel cheered on to persevere. Klok is very clear of his intention: Expose the devil's tricks. Diagnose the signs of bondage. Wield the weapons of spiritual warfare boldly and faithfully.

Take authority in the Name of Jesus
Know the truth
Identify the Enemy
Resist, resist, resist
Understand our status at our salvation
Know we are blessed, not cursed
Put on righteousness
Be baptized in water and in the Holy Spirit
Align our words with God's words
Be God's ambassador
Keep our passions hot
Put on the whole armour of God
and Jesus will lead us in triumph

Like a spiritual cheerleader, Klok does a great job in raising high one's spirit. He lists methodically what believers can deal about their bondage. The pattern is firstly to be aware of what the devil can or cannot do. This is about knowledge of the Truth. Secondly, be able to diagnose spiritual conditions by using the signs. This is about spiritual discernment. Finally, put on the weapons of spiritual warfare. This is the putting on of courage. This framework is commendable. I am not so convinced by some of the steps Klok has put up.

For example, in #2, when Klok says "The Devil cannot understand the ways and Word of God," there is a danger in underestimating the devil's ability to deceive. In order to deceive someone else, the devil must have a pretty good grasp of what the Word of God is. Look at the way the Devil tried to deceive Jesus at the three temptations in the wilderness. Each time, the devil used a Scripture passage to try and trip Jesus, only to be corrected and rebuked. My position is that the devil is far more formidable than what Klok is describing. Perhaps, the big problem is how believers themselves err because they know not the Word. My second criticism is that the book tends to place the onus of the problem on the devil himself, about what the devil cannot do. It unwittingly gives believers a false sense of confidence, to the point that believers then do not have to take precautions. Perhaps, this is not Klok's intention, but it sure reads that way in print.

In summary, Klok has some good things to say about spiritual warfare, like reminding us not to fear or overestimate the power of the devil. He is right to declare that Jesus is the Ultimate Deliverer, the Supreme Victor. There is no one going to be able to challenge God. It is also true that the devil cannot harm us unless we let him. For popular reading, this book is ok as a brief reference guide. For scholarly work, I would recommend other books like the "Understanding the Four Views of Spiritual Warfare."

I recently received a preview copy of 21 Things the Devil Cannot Do by Duane Vander Klok (ISBN 978-0-8007-9616-7) . I was not certain what the book would be like and I was pleasantly surprised.

The book is fairly non-denominational in its approach. It is written in a very readable style that is straight-forward while being encouraging. Throughout the entire book, the author continually reminds the reader of our victory over the Devil by the death and resurrection of Jesus. He defeated the Devil by this sacrifice and bequeathed that power to any follower who chooses to use it.

The book is divided into logical sections. One deals with what the Devil is, what he cannot do and what he can do. The concluding chapters are the most uplifting of the book. They detail how to claim the inheritance given by the Lord to resist and defeat the Devil and how to become saved if you are not already.

Within each chapter, the author uses myriad examples of scripture supporting each statement he makes. This is very useful for anyone wanting a scriptural basis for their fight against the Devil. It also lends credence to his claims because it is right there, written in the Word for anyone to read and use.

I would recommend that every Christian who is serious about resisting the snares of the Devil should have a copy of this book. It should be read thoroughly and regularly to strengthen knowledge and be used as a piece of the armor of God.

This review is for the book "21 Things the Devil Cannot Do" by Duane Vander Klok. I really enjoyed this book. The author stated from the very beginning that so often we give the devil too much credit. We give him too much power. Really, though, his power is quite limited. I think it is so necessary to point out all the things the devil cannot do so we can claim back some of that authority. For example, the devil cannot operate in an atmosphere of praise, so if we keep that atmosphere around us, he cannot break through or have power. The devil cannot trespass where you don't allow him. The devil cannot hold power to things you don't yield to him. The author made so many good points throughout this book that I really agreed with. He also pointed out how Jesus can deliver us from so many things, and had the plan of salvation at the end of the book.

I think this is a great read. If you struggle with the idea of the devil being on your back, or saying "the devil made me do it" or giving him too much power, you should read this book.

Thank you to Chosen Publishers for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
