Revue de presse

""Advanced Acceptance and Commitment Therapy" is an invaluable resource for every therapist who doesn't just want to do good ACT but great ACT. Easy to read and very practical, this book succeeds at linking concrete skills to deep philosophical and behavioral principles underlying the ACT model. The numerous clinical vignettes are commented with great precision and clarity, and show how to activate key processes through natural interactions, beyond traditional exercises." --Matthieu Villatte, PhD, research scientist at the Evidence-Based Practice Institute, Seattle; ACBS-recognized ACT trainer; and associate editor of the "Journal of Contextual Behavioral Science "

Présentation de l'éditeur

At some point or another, you have probably encountered difficulty putting theory into practice when it comes to using ACT in sessions with clients. You aren't alone. Although ACT is a powerful treatment option for a number of psychological issues, such as anxiety, depression, trauma, eating disorders, and more, it is a complex, ever-evolving model, and as such it can often be difficult to deliver effectively. The truth is that even the most seasoned ACT therapist will face challenges in their client sessions from time to time.

This is the only advanced professional ACT book on the market, and it is designed to help you close the gap between what you've learned in ACT training and your actual client sessions. Inside, licensed psychologist Darrah Westrup, PhD, provides valuable tips and real-life client scenarios to help you hone your understanding of the core processes behind ACT. You'll also learn practical strategies for moving past common barriers that can present during therapy, such as over-identifying with clients or difficulty putting theory into practice. Most importantly, you'll learn when to deliver specific ACT components, and how to adapt your treatment for each client.

This user-friendly, pragmatic, and thoughtful guide does not promote "error-free" ACT, but rather, ways to identify and work with the therapy process as it unfolds. A must-read for any therapist or mental health professional interested in sharpening their ACT skills.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Kudos for Advanced ACT: The Experienced Practitioner's Guide to Optimizing Delivery 30 mai 2014

I am halfway through Darrah Westrup's new book and can't put it down. As an ACT practitioner, it is just full of ahas for me and exactly what I need at this stage of my learning and practicing. ACT is an amazingly effective counseling technology but it requires precision, timeliness, intuition, compassion and delicacy in its application.I am thankful for this solid text, which, from my perspective, fills a gap in our literature. I also love the style in which it is written, so light and fun that it provides ease of access to and retention of Westrup's counseling room wisdom. This text should be on every ACT counselor and coach's self of accessible, well-used and beloved texts. Thank you, Darrah.

This is my first review on Amazon and for good reason. I was compelled to write a review for Advanced ACT by Darrah Westrup. As a student of ACT for quite some time, I have read many of the texts, and yet this particular book shines brightly in its own uniqueness. The breadth and depth of experience and wisdom shared through Darrah's words is literally oozing off of each of the pages. I read this book cover to cover within a few days because it had me hooked. You will enjoy its simplicity and elegance in taking complex situations and breaking them down into easy and digestible components. Advanced ACT is practical, clear, concise, and along with the texts of the founders of ACT and the work of Russ Harris, Advanced ACT is a MUST READ for any clinician who would like to master the overt and especially subtle challenges the ACT model may offer to both clinicians and clients. If you are worried about reading another ACT book with similarities to much of what you already know and read, this book is definitely not one of them. Advanced ACT will have you smiling with its precision and acts as a breath of fresh air when reading. If I could give this book 10 stars, I would.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A thought provoking and essential clinical text 19 juin 2014

I am very pleased to have this book in my ACT collection. A compelling message about the pervasiveness of the avoidance and control agenda-particularly as it applies to the function of therapeutic interventions and therapist comments in session. Also a consideration of timing and using ACT in a fluid, moment-by-moment way by keeping conceptualisation central. Highly recommended to all experienced ACT clinicians.

Westrup is a great teacher and I think the book has in fact "advanced" my practice of ACT. Notably, I'm better able to recognize and use process to effect experience with ACT (e.g., undermine the fixing urge, control agenda, experiential avoidance) and know where I am within the theoretical frame. The session examples are engaging and to the point. Each chapter ends with a review of illustrated concepts and that helps reinforce my learning. Excellent book that I would highly recommend to anyone with some experience (so you can reflect on your own learning, use and practice of ACT). I am a therapist with psychodynamic and CBT training, now using ACT for about a year after supervised training.

I purchased this book for a psychologist friend but decided to read it myself before passing it on. As a non-clinician and only moderately skilled/knowledgeable in ACT I was initially worried I wouldn't understand or enjoy this book. I was wrong! It was such an enjoyable read and the subtle insights and tips offered in the book, although aimed specifically at practising clinicians, have greatly helped my understanding of ACT for use on a personal level. The central thread of being true to the core ACT processes throughout therapy, while invaluable advice for therapists, also holds true for everyday life and reinforces how well ACT works. I can see that this book would be an invaluable asset on the shelf of any psychologist practising ACT. I thoroughly recommend this book to anyone - clinicians or non-clinicians wanting to further their experience with ACT.
