Suite à l'excellent "Conquerors of the Armageddon", les frères Kolesne enchaînent l'année suivante avec "Ageless venomous" le mal aimé.

Pourquoi?

This was my intro to Krisiun. And what an introduction. Double bass the speed up there near Pete Sandoval land (drummer for Morbid Angel), killer riffs that could cutt through steel, and brutal vocals in the tradition of Glen Benton from Deicide. There's not one track on here that didn't shred the skin from my body. The sound production on this? I've heard some say the bass drums sounded like they were hitting leather or something like that ... I thought it was a different sound, but a heavy one that I liked. Get all of Krisiun in your CD rack: they never fail to deliver the goods.

When I first heard it, I wouldn't have recognized it as Krisiun. Here's one reason. What I took to be a rather unique sounding death metal vocalist (Alex Camargo) on Conquerors has been replaced by a rather plain sounding death metal vocalist on the new album. But it's still Alex on Ageless, so how could this be? The production perhaps. Conquerors was very finely produced. Ageless is not so well produced. I don't mean to suggest, however, that Alex's vocals are poor, it's just different, more "traditional." He still delivers, he just doesn't deliver as originally as on Conquerors.
Besides the "new" sound of the "old" vocalist, Ageless differs from Conquerors in a much more important way. Ageless has the most bizarre sounding drums I've ever heard. It's the sound of the bass drum. You'll notice it immediately because it touches your ear about every half second. The double-bass drumming is very impressive, but the sound of it is so odd. It's very high pitched and almost sounds like a snare unsnared. It is, if nothing else, what is most distinctive about this album. You'll not find another death metal album with drums that sound like this. To be honest, I can't be sure whether that is a good or a bad thing. At first, I couldn't stand the new sound, but as I've listened more I've gotten accustomed to it. It's different. You'll have to decide for yourself whether or not different is good in this case.
So that's the vocals and the drums. Both are fast and aggressive as you would expect. Vocals are more mainstream death metal. Drums are from somewhere out of who knows where. That leaves what is certainly the best part of the album: the guitars. Moyses Kolesne's delivery on Ageless is fantastic. The riffs are much more entertaining, complex, and interesting on Ageless than on Conquerors. Check out the riffs on "Evil Gods Havoc" for example. The song is not one of my favorites overall, but it exemplifies the sort of guitar work that, for my money, you can't find consistently on Conquerors. (Though I think Conqueror's "Cursed Scrolls" is an exception.) There are songs that have the Conqueror's guitar sound, and they are good songs, to be sure. I really like "Dawn of Flagellation," for example, and it could fit on Conquerors with no problem. I also really like the title track, "Ageless Venomous." It's not one that would fit on Conquerors. It's a "fun song" in the only sense that Krisiun can write a fun song. You'll see what I mean when you listen to it. My personal favorite is the closer "Sepulchral Oath." It mixes the best of all that is Krisiun. The intro riff is great, and the bass, solid throughout, is exceptionally well used on "Oath." The drums, as on every Krisiun track, are quick. Check it out.
I don't mention the lyrics on the album because I don't care about lyrics. I suspect that if you want "meaningful" lyrics in your music, you won't be reading a Krisiun review in any case.
Overall, then, I would give Ageless a slight edge over Conquerors. Though I prefer the production and the vocals on Conquerors, I think that the strength of the song writing on Ageless--the very fine guitar and bass work--makes Ageless a little bit more fun to listen to. It's above average death metal. Not a classic, but Dr. Metal recommends it.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 This time around not just SPEED but TECHNICALITY!!!!! 9 novembre 2001
Par Carlos - Publié sur Amazon.com

I don't even know where to begin, this band continues to blow my mind,Krisiun never ever lets up, the intensity they put forth on this album is so extreme its mind blowing. Let me start by saying that Ageless Venemous introduces us to a new more mature Krisiun, by mature I don't mean that they have become less aggressive as that term usually insinuates. What we have here is a band that has kept their trademark sound (which is insane speed all the time) and added a lot of technicality to their already insane sound. Where as some bands who after 3 or 4 albums either water down their sound, or change their sound completly usually as a result of lack of creativity, Krisiun will not have any of that. Continuing where they left off with Conquerers of Armaggedon, Krisiun have added some truly twisted riffs to their already very impressive arsenal from the first track "Perpertuation" (One of the best opening tracks ever!!!!)to the last "Sepulchral Oath" Krisiun takes you on journey( very fast journey) that will leave your jaw gaping. A must have for any fan of Metal, this is the album of 2001. All Hail Krisiun!!!
4.0 étoiles sur 5 Faster, Stronger, but better? 4 juillet 2007

Ageless Venoms, Krisiuns post-Conquerors album. You see, Krisiun tried the classic Slayer tactic of trying to outdo themselves in every album. But does it work here? Not really. Sure, its faster then Conquerors was, it has more memorable songs then Conquerors had, but is it better? On some parts, yes. The Legion worship is still prevalent, and the blast beats and double bass are definately insane. Alex's vocals are alot more deadly and forceful, while Moyses's solos can cut flesh into ribbons. But still, its missing something Conquerors had; addictiveness. Sure, its good as a quick fill of death metal, but prolonged listens can get a tad predictable.

But still, like it or hate it, Krisiun are atop of the current death metal herd, behind only the gods Immolation, Suffocation, and Dismember.
