Fans of Veronica Roth, Suzanne Collins, Cassandra Clare and James Dashner will love this series by Aaron Patterson and Chris White.

"Move over Twilight! Here comes Aaron Patterson!"
--Joshua Graham, bestselling author of Beyond Justice and Darkroom

"I was surprised by how much I really, really liked this book. I have not jumped on the whole "fallen angel" bandwagon, just as I didn't jump on all of the vampire stories that came out after Twilight. This is not your typical fallen angel story. It is one that has left me breathlessly waiting for the next one in the series. Hurry up please!!!"
--Sandra Stiles

Airel: The Awakening

All Airel wanted was to be normal...

She seems like an average 17-year-old in the anonymous
little city of Boise, Idaho: Airel. But those untroubled days are soon to end,
and the change she undergoes will be so radical she will wonder if it wasn't
all an illusion to begin with. Pursued ferociously, relentlessly by an ancient enemy
in the deepest darkness, now she will have to learn how to fight for her life.
And all because of who she is, because of her lineage. Because of this she will
never have what she wants most: she will never be normal.

AIREL: THE AWAKENING (AIREL SAGA BOOK ONE) is for or readers who enjoy stories with angels, fallen angels, demons, paranormal creatures, paranormal romance, historical medieval romance, teen & young adult paranormal fantasy romance, teen & young adult paranormal urban fantasy romance, and teen & young adult paranormal romance series.

"It takes rare talent for a man to write a novel from a male POV and have it published to great critical and commercial acclaim. But it takes a miracle for that same male, or in this case males, to write a novel from the POV of a teenage girl and have it turn out as incredibly as did the new StoneHouse YA by Aaron Patterson and Chris White, AIREL. From the first sentence, I felt compelled to dive into this young woman's story and just as importantly, I felt like I personally knew her, which means I laughed, stressed and cried right along with her. A beautifully written and crafted fiction about teenage innocence, faith, loss and love. A must read for teens and adults alike."
--Vincent Zandri, International Bestselling Author of The Remains, The Innocent, and Concrete Pearl

"I am happy to say that this novel is one of my favorites of its kind. I never thought I could read a novel like this and be so swept away! I am always willing to try new books, but I usually steer clear of this kind of novel. Not anymore! Not when I can be so engrossed into the character's story, like I was with the beautiful AIREL, that before I know, it's over. I kept turning the pages , wanting to, no-NEEDING, to know what was going to happen next."
--Molly Edwards, Willow Spring, NC

Biographie de l'auteur

Aaron Patterson is the author of the best-selling WJA series, as well as two Digital Shorts: 19 and The Craigslist Killer. He was home-schooled and grew up in the west. Aaron loved to read as a small child and would often be found behind a book, reading one to three a day on average. This love drove him to want to write, but he never thought he had the talent. His wife Karissa prodded him to try it, and with this encouragement, he wrote Sweet Dreams, the first book in the WJA series, in 2008. Airel is his first teen series, and plans for more to come are already in the works. He lives in Boise, Idaho with his family, Soleil, Kale and Klayton. Chris White has an award for reading 750 books in one school year — from the 3rd grade. So yes, he’s more of a nerd than Aaron. Chris loves history, Sherlock Holmes, and anything that’s not virtual, like old motorcycles and mechanical typewriters. He also doesn’t get why we have these things called “smart phones” when all they do is make people dumber. Chris recently celebrated 10 years of marriage with his wife, April, and has two boys: Noah, age 8, and Jaden, age 3, who inspired the Great Jammy Adventure series; the OK-to-color-in picture books. Chris is working on a short story called The Marsburg Diary that will further explore the prologue to Airel, and he is finishing up his first novel, entitled K: phantasmagoria, due out in 2011. Chris has a major crush on Audrey Hepburn, who is now dead. His wife is okay with all of this.

2.0 étoiles sur 5 What kind of Ending was that? 18 janvier 2016

By the time the plot started going somewhere, it just ended. I think the plot might be interesting, but honestly it didn't go far enough to know! I didn't learn enough about the plot in the first book to intrigue me enough to pay for the 2nd book. You might actually be doing yourself a favor by merging the 2 books. I'm going to wait a little while and see if I care what Ariel is or what the heck was going on back in history. I figure if my brain keeps wondering back to the story line I'll dish out the money for the 2nd. I can't believe you ended it the way you did. Seriously, what were you thinking? It wasn't really even at a cliffhanger or anything and who the heck was the last chapter even about? It didn't make sense. That was a bad place to put a commercial break.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 A good beginning... 28 mai 2014

Airel is just a regular teenager. One day, there's a new boy in school named Michael Alexander, the gorgeous guy that had recently witnessed an embarrassing moment for Airel. She feels instantly attracted to him, but fights it because that's not her style. Her best friend, Kim, is interested in Michael's friend, James, so the four of them start hanging out together and she gets to know Michael. Strange things start happening and Airel's trying to figure it out. She's also not sure about Michael but can't seem to stop herself from falling for him.

We also get a parallel story which takes place in 1250 BC. Krieos, an angel, fell in love with a human, and she died in childbirth. The decisions he makes after that affect him and his daughter and an innocent village. We meet his old friend, Yamanu, who he trusts to help him hide from the Seer. This part is interesting but the book ends before the two storylines intersect.

I enjoyed reading this story. I didn't feel like I got enough with this part to have strong feelings about any of it, though. Airel and Michael both seem likable, but they're still in the get to know each other stage and haven't had any kind of heart to heart yet. I like Airel's friend, Kim. It seems like she'll add a lot to the story. I'm always interested to see how male authors portray teenage girls and I think they're doing a great job so far! I'm also interested in learning more about Krieos. I feel like this is just the beginning and this part ends on a cliffhanger, so as soon as I can, I'm going to read more!

[I've actually had a paper copy of this book for a couple of years. When it was pretty new, I met one of the authors, Aaron Patterson, at a Costco signing and I purchased a copy which he signed. I kept meaning to get to it, but didn't, so I was excited to see a blog tour for it. For this tour, I read the Kindle version which I received because I was a little confused since it was smaller than my paper copy. My paper copy is the first four parts of this story and the Kindle copy is the first part, so my review only covers part one. It also appears that the Kindle copy has quite a few revisions from the paper copy I have (including the very end--Kindle version is much better!).]

Content: Mild swearing

I received a Kindle copy of this book to review. My opinion is 100% my own.
4.0 étoiles sur 5 none like this. So where to start 27 mai 2015

Ok I have read a lot of fallen angel stories, but....none like this. So where to start?

Well first I just have to say the cover is breathtaking, absolutely amazing! I know that you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, and all that blah blah blah....but I mean come on!! You have to admit it calls to you. lolz

But whats waiting behind that cover? Well lets continue on shall we?

Airel is just an average highschool girl. Living an average life. Trying to stay out of the limelight of popularity at school. At times feeling ackward, and confused as most teenage girls do. Although I do have to say she is less niave than most girls her age. She knows that falling for a boy, and becoming hopelessly in love will only hurt her in the end. She's smart in that way, and I heart her for it. In the end though, no matter how hard you try, no matter how old you are, love knows no boundaries. Love conqures all. It makes you fall first, and ask questions later. She was supposed to just be a job for it possible Airel isn't the only one who is gonna feel the fall-out from loves wrath? When the battle wages, and loves sinks it's teeth into you, the question is are you willing to die for it?

We must all die, before we can live.....if only we really understood how true that is.

This book takes you through a journey. I love how you not only get the present day story of Airel, but you also get the story behind the story. The flashbacks, and different points of view make this all the more interesting. At first everything seems kinda detached. Like story A, doesn't quite line up with story B, but them BAM all the pieces fall into place, your heart starts to pull from your chest, and the ending....OMG the ending. There is the YA stories of young love, we've all read them. We've all even fallin for them. We've sat on the edge of of seat, white knuckle gripping the book, while the lovers fight side by side. We have cried for them. This book left me to stunned to cry. It went beyond that. What if I told you not only does love have no boundaries, but it was so strong it could cross the enemy line of a war that as been raging since the great fall? Can a love really be the tie that binds the side of GOD with the side of Evil?

Or will mortal enemies remain mortally damaged.....

Nope, nope I've already said to much. Now go run along a grab yourself a copy!

I get that this is a series, but there is really no explanation that ties Airel to Kreios. At all. At one point she develops super fast healing powers and seems to accept it straight out, no freaking out, no asking her parents. She's just fine with it. Along with her looks transformation, from lamenting about how much time it takes to get ready in the morning to just one day rolling out of bed and not needing makeup, with no questioning of what the heck is going on. It would have been much better if there was a little more explanation or a conclusion of the story.
1.0 étoiles sur 5 This story is not complete, its a quarter of what a full book should be. Not even a midpoint 6 octobre 2016

I don't know how this is considered a full book. The whole thing was just a prequel or act one with no resolution or answers at all. You find out nothing. You know whats going on without being told because this books formula has been done so many times you just know whats happing to Ariel but you find out no concrete details. Nothing is explained. They didn't even reach the Midpoint for book one. All books even a series should have all 7 plot points that make a story. This book had the first two. Its like the author wrote the entire series in one book and then cut it into 6 sections to get more money. Will not be buying the rest of the series if i'm going to get a quarter of the same story line throughout tons of books.
