4.0 étoiles sur 5 Needs an all analog vinyl release but this is among the best sounding CDs you'll hear 10 juin 2016

This is a relatively obscure set recorded by west coast jazz guys who worked as session men mostly but also gigged around the L.A. club scene. The recording is astonishing. No credits given but probably Radio Recorders engineered by Bill Putnam. Just a guess. Needs an all analog vinyl release but this is among the best sounding CDs you'll hear....
5.0 étoiles sur 5 A Feel Good Jazz Album 5 avril 2016

I was able to listen to this CD before buying and I instantly loved it. I like to "feel" my jazz music and I'm not so interested in the music theory and technical stuff, but if my ears and heart like it, then I get a big smile and toes tapping when listening to it.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Skimpy but nice 14 avril 2006
Par Bomojaz - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
There are a couple of unusual (in a good way) things about this 1960 Crown date. First, all the tunes are Candoli originals (most session producers at this time would have insisted on a standard or two, I think) - and all of them are excellent. There isn't a bum tune in the batch. Second, multi-reed man Buddy Collette only plays tenor sax; he could usually be found wielding flute, alto, and clarinet as well as tenor on just about all his dates. His tone on tenor is rich and full-blooded. COUNTIN' THE BLUES is an interesting 12-bar composition, and MAMBO DIANE alternates between the mambo rhythm and straight 4-4 to good effect. The highlight is ZIZANIE, taken up-tempo - it's a terrific little tune and it swings like mad. There are also good solos all around. Vince Guaraldi is on piano, and the rhythm section of Leroy Vinnegar and Stan Levey is solid. The only disappointment here is that there is less than 30 minutes of music, which was highway robbery even in the LP days. Combining this Crown LP with another Candoli or Collette outing would have been easy to do. But the music, little of it that there is, is most enjoyable.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 An explanation... 9 janvier 2008
Par T. Krehbiel - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
I bought this new off a super cheap rack at a five and dime. I knew when I picked it up that it was going to be a short play disc. Crown was the cheapo subsidiary of Modern Records and generally used a very low grade of vinyl (except for its occasional clear red and yellow LPs). To help overcome the noise, they made the masters quite loud. This meant wider grooves and less playing time.

This is one of their best original sessions. If I recall correctly, one of Downbeat magazine's reviewers rated it at 4 or 5 stars.

It's great to find it again available since my vinyl copy slipped through my hands at some unknown time.
5.0 étoiles sur 5 Also issued as VINCE GUARALDI and the Conte Candoli All-Stars 21 septembre 2006
Par Richard Narcisso - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
I can't add much to the good job the previous reviewer did, but wanted to note that the album was issued by Crown under Vince Guaraldi's name in the mid 1960s (as an LP) to capitalize on his wide-spread fame that came from his work on the Peanuts Cartoon specials. The Vince Guaraldi version has the same material, but a different cover and was recently issued on CD in a limited pressing in Japan, and is very rare. It's a fabulous West Coast Jazz album, but a bit skimpy as the earlier review states.
