4.0 étoiles sur 5 The quality and level of interest holds up in book three 22 juin 2014

Those who know me well know I'm VERY picky about my fiction. I find myself amazed that I am every bit as interested in this series in book three as with the very first in the series. These books are well written and well rounded. As noted in the reviews of the first 2 books of the series, the sense of place is astounding. Research, while I do not fact check, seems very well done. I am impressed with the boldness with which the writers undertook this plot and its suppositions as well as mixing of fact and fiction. This is especially impressive since authors are typically very timid (fearing for their legal lives) when intertwining fictional characters with real persons or events. It usually takes me months to get around to reading a novel. I've been reading one book in this series after another--downloading the next from Amazon as soon as I finish the one I've got.

If I had to identify one minor flaw---and I really couldn't call it a flaw, but perhaps a divergence from reality, is how everyone gets religion in these books. In book 3, one of the characters receives Jesus prior to death. That's awesome, but I couldn't help but feel it was unrealistic. Many times you can witness to a person repeatedly who goes to their grave without ever making that critical decision. So in this case, in a way, it just didn't quite ring true, though fictional or not, I'm happy for such a decision.

The story was written nearly flawlessly---I only lost interest in one section when the writing went on too long describing the fashions the characters were wearing---always a yawner.

Now I'm off to download book 4 in the series.

Great book! I so loved the first book - a freebie, that I bought the second book. My husband loved them both too, so I bought this third book in the series. Fascinating happenings in the turn of the century, attitudes towards women in general and in particular the attitudes of the male dominated business world, the police and justice systems towards the heroine Kit Shannon. Not to forget the circles of high society women who are affronted at her stance. This strong delightful, godly Kit is fearless in God to overcome every obstacle to fight in the legal battles of the wronged, despite mostly negative public opinion. She is feisty and yet humble. She knows what God has called her to do and lives by her convictions. She definitely doesn't "go with the flow", but encourages the reader too, to be strong and go against the flow if it means compromising your faith.

This is a 6 book series and I am on Book 4 right now. I just finished Angel of Mercy. It was very entertaining. You fall in love with Kit the main character who is a woman lawyer. Book 1 was the best so far, but I am enjoying the others also. I would definitely recommend these books to easy readers out there!
5.0 étoiles sur 5 Kit Shannon's Dilemma 20 juillet 2015

This book is a continuation of the trials and triumphs of a rare woman attorney in the early 1900's in Los Angeles. It combines accurate history of the times with the courtroom drama we have come to expect from Kit Shannon. The prejudices and clamor of that bustling town override the cases that Kit seems so successful in solving. In this one she takes on the case of a police officer who is charged with murder. She has a great deal of trouble deciding whether or not to take the case and when she does she finds that she is up against some of the most powerful people in California.

The author is consistently weaving the gospel and lives being changed and redeemed by Jesus into the story. Evil tries to win but ultimately loses.
