Présentation de l'éditeur

THE ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION is the winner of The Kindle Book Review's 2013 Best Indie Book Award in the suspense category.

After raising her son, Ben, by herself, librarian Inga Daudelin is blindsided when he is accused of the murders of four young women. At the same time, Jean, a young, pregnant waif who seems both simple and wise, "imprints" on Inga at work, drawing her into an unusual friendship. When Ben kidnaps Jean, Inga and lead detective Ron O'Loughlin, with whom she is falling in love, search for the two, who along with Jean's baby, have formed a strange but human family.

"This wonderful novel is a success at every level--an engrossing thriller and a nuanced examination of love--written with artful directness. I loved every word and could not put it down." -- Scott Turow

It feels as if this book was written backwards. That is, it’s like the author came up with what she thought was an amazing ending then then wrote “backwards” to get us to it. But it doesn’t really work and when you finish the book and question how you wound up there, there are few good answers.

Two women – Inga, whose life is thrown into disarray when her semi-estranged son is arrested for a series of rape/murders and Jean, the pregnant wife of a soldier deployed in Vietnam – development a friendship based on proximity and circumstance. The story is told from their POV. The sections from Inga’s POV work much better. When the author has to step outside of her educated, middle-aged worldview, she seems to struggle more. From her initial scenes, where she explains that she is from North Carolina by singing a James Taylor song, Jean seems more like a collection of personality tics and flourishes than a real person. Unfortunately, most of the pivotal events in the second half of the book are told from her POV and there is often little justification for the decisions that she makes or the things that she does, making it difficult to hang in there. Her inauthenticity winds up being a fatal flaw for the book.

A decent woman questioning her life after her son is revealed to be a monsters . . . there is an interesting possibility for a novel there. This, however, isn’t successful.

An enjoyable read with well developed characters. The conclusion was nothing like I suspected. I'd recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good story along with a believable plot. The story is told from two perspectives, both in the first person. Very different kind of writing, but the two viewpoints made it a page turner.

Starts off plodding and slow. Maintains that pace for most of the story arc and then *whoosh* it's all a blur. I can't say I hated it, but I can't say I really enjoyed it either.

Oh, and that phrase is "must've," not "must of" no matter how many times you misspeak it.

This book started out well and I had hope, but it quickly became very dull. I made myself finish it, although I really didn't care what happened to any of the characters. It is nothing like "Defending Jacob" or "Gone Girl" as some suggestions have indicated. It is not particularly well written, unless you like to read on a grade school level.

You people should just read this book yourselves and write your own review on this novel yourself and I really enjoyed reading this book very much so . Shelley MA
