Présentation de l'éditeur

Delilah Morrissey has always wanted to be a mother, but when she becomes a young widow, that dream now seems farther away than ever. Unable to continue to live alone in Chicago, her only option is to accept her sister's offer to move in with her family back in West Virginia. Will Delilah have the faith to pursue a new dream--even if it means giving up the old?

In this charming novella, debut novelist Sarah Loudin Thomas introduces readers to Wise, West Virginia--a small town nestled in an Appalachian valley where the everyday miracles of life and faith play out in stories of healing, hope, and love.

Includes an excerpt of Miracle in a Dry Season, the first full-length novel in the Appalachian Blessings series--a book New York Times bestselling author Debbie Macomber called, "Wonderful, simply wonderful."

Sometimes, what you have wished for is not always what you need.

I did not expect this book to have so much content when I saw the page numbers. Boy! I was so wrong! This book is jam packed with an excellent story and fantastic characters. It will grip you from page one to the last page.

The story is very well written, flows smoothly and is easy to follow. It starts in1945, 2 years before my birth, and I can tell you the story is true to the life at that time.

You are going to fall in love with these characters folks. I have to admit that Delilah and Robert are my two most favorite characters in this novella. While I can find myself able to relate to all the characters, I do think these two are the best by far.

Delilah was trapped in a marriage to a man who, in this day and age, would have been considered emotionally abusive. He dies at an early age leaving Delilah in massive debt. Unable to continue to live alone in Chicago, she has no other option than to accept her sister's offer to go live with them back in West Virginia. .Will Delilah have the faith and wisdom to put aside her old dream in order to have a chance for true love. Read on folks. This is one fantastic novella.

I do recommend this book for ages 14 on up. There are no sex scenes or cuss words in it. it is just a good, clean story.
I know you will love it as much as I have,.

Sarah Loudin Thomas is a new writer on the fiction scene and a very good one. In the prequel, Appalachian Serenade, she sets the stage for the blessing trilogy to come. Miracles occur when we least expect it and sometimes from the unexpected hand.
Thomas pulls the reader into West Virginia through scenes, word choice, and personalities. Will Delilah, the widow returning from a bigger city, make Wise, West Virginia her hometown? There's Robert, the shopkeeper. What happens when two women absorb his thoughts? Does God only provide large miracles or is his presence seen in the small things?
Like the Appalachian creek Delilah wades in, Thomas is refreshing, moving us from one snapshot to the next. A serenade is soothing but has unexpected turns--just like Sarah Loudin Thomas promises in this prequel.

Delilah’s marriage hadn’t turned out to be anything like she’d wanted, and to top off the disappointments, her husband didn’t even want children, something Delilah had longed for. He died, leaving her nothing but debts and bad memories. When she moved back to West Virginia to live with her sister, her brother-in-law seemed to resent her, so she wanted to get a job to help out, and one almost fell into her lap. She finds she’s adept at working in the store, and she’s rather attracted to Robert, the owner, until she finds out he’s probably not going to have children. Maybe she’d better just slow down and see where God leads.

I found I enjoyed this little novella much more than I expected. I didn’t particularly like Delilah as a name for the main character, and I’ve never known anyone named that except the temptress who betrayed Sampson in the Bible. There were a couple of errors, like “drive slow.” The ending was also a bit weaker and quicker than I would have liked, and the novella was especially short – 63% of 115 pages, with the last part being an excerpt from another book. Yet, even with all this, it was a well-written story that I thoroughly enjoyed and would certainly recommend. I hope to read the others in this series.

First I want to point out that I rarely read novellas because they just aren't long enough to suit me. I like LONG books. The longer the better. I read so fast that I need the book to be long to satisfy me. But when I know that a novella is a prequel to a book series then I'm all for it!

Appalachian Serenade is our preview into the new series by Thomas. The first book is called Miracle in a Dry Season and it is available for pre-order on Amazon even though it doesn't release until August!

Bethany House gave me a heads up that this novella was free for Kindle (check price before you buy but as of right now it is still free!) and I immediately downloaded it and read it today! It was a fast read because it was so well written. The characters had just the right amount of depth and intrigue. It is set in an excellent time period (1945) right after the war is over and the men are returning and the main character is learning to start over again in her hometown after the death of her husband to a heart attack.

I really related to the main character, Delilah because she was married for awhile but never got pregnant. Yet she so strongly desires to have children. This book did an excellent job of depicting the turmoil this situation can bring a person without dwelling on it too much.

Then there is Robert. He was a marvelous male lead character. I've never read a book where the male lead was such a charming "people person" and it was a beautiful change of pace. I love how he runs his store as more of a social affair than a money making business.

This novella also includes a preview to Miracle in a Dry Season but I'll be honest I did NOT read that part of the download. I can't bear to read a chapter and not be able to finish the book so I'll just wait til it is released and then read the whole book. I can tell you that I cannot wait to read more of this author's work. It was an excellent novella and I have no doubt her future books will be just as good!

Check out Sarah's website and Facebook page to learn more about her and her books!

Appalachian Serenade was a fast-paced, heart-warming, and inspirational read. Delilah Morrissey is starting life over at age thirty-four. The year is 1945. The war is over. Delilah is a widow, with no home, and no job. The only thing she could do was leave Chicago for her home in West Virginia. Feeling like a proverbial third wheel in her married sister's home, she stumbles across a job helping Robert Thornton out in his general store. Robert and Delilah are both looking for something more in life, but aren't quite sure how to get it. Robert has resigned himself to being sterile and never having children, but he knows that it will all work out in the end. Delilah wants nothing more than to have children and overlooks the man right under her nose rather than admit there is a chance for them to have a meaningful relationship. Ms. Thomas has done a wonderful job presenting a story that answers the question of how do you know what God has in store for you if you don't know what you want for yourself. I thoroughly enjoyed this historical fiction read set in small-town West Virginia. The author captured the feel of the small town community, where everyone knows everyone else's business and is quick to offer advice and assistance when it is deemed appropriate. This was the first book I've read in the Appalachian Blessings series, but I can't wait to read more.
