James J. Bloom
Blueprint for Palestinian Intrangisence
26 juillet 2016 - Publié sur Amazon.com
Based on the authors PhD dissertation that was written before the six-day war, Harkabi did make some reference to post-67 war material in this slightly amended version. The review by L. King notes the continued relevance of the raw material digested and catalogued in this dissertation. Notably, the author does not present any value judgements as to the zero-sum absolute Arab/Palestinian rejection of any legitimate Jewish claims to sovereignty in any part of what they regard as an exclusively Palestinian/Arab domain. In fact, Harkabi might be regarded as somewhat of a "dove" with regard to the issue as he has, subsequent to the publication of this book, argued against continued Israeli settlement expansion in Judaea and Samaria (West Bank) and regards Israel's 1982 war to eradicate the PLO presence in Lebanon as a calamitous overreach comparable to the messianic Bar Kochba's revolt against Hadrian's Roman domination of the Holy Land in the second century CE. This said, there is a continuity in the recent Palestinian Authority efforts (with UNESCO's irresponsible complicity) to refute any Jewish ancestral claim to ANY holy sites in Israel/Palestine and the more recent (July, 2016) plan to sue Britain for issuing the Balfour Declaration almost a century ago as fomenting the "Zionist aggression" against the Palestinians since 1948. This book provides ample documentation of this rigid and, yes, anti-Jewish prejudice among Palestinian spokespersons.

Yehoshafat Harkabi's Arab Attitudes To Israel is the first book known to me in which the author discusses the curent Arab-Israeli conflict refering, among other issues, to the origins of Islam and the career of the Islamic Prophet Mohammad. Before pursuing academic career, Harkabi was head of the Intelligence; he gained some insight aparently unobtainable in libraries and classrooms.
Still the fundamental treatment of Arab attitudes about Jews

It has been almost forty years since this book was published. Now that I look at it once again, it is obvious that in its essentials it is as current as it was then. As I follow the most recent events in Egypt, for example, I learn once again -- Al Jazeera has reported it, the NY Times has suppressed it -- that the crowds are united on one subject more than any other: hatred of the Jews. And so it goes throughout the Arab world. Of course there are Arabs who are perfectly rational on the subject, but, or so it would seem, they are in a minority.
