Description du produit

Revue de presse

"Chelsea Handler writes like Judy Blume, if Judy Blume were into vodka, Ecstasy, and sleeping with midgets and nineteen-year-olds."

-- Jennifer Weiner, bestselling author of In Her Shoes

"Ms. Handler's style is a friendlier, more workaday version of the haughty self-abasement practiced by Sarah Silverman, leavened by the everywoman spirit of Kathy Griffin...She seems like a cruel queen bee from an expensive college: There's something suspiciously sophisticated about how her jokes line up that suggests the moral austerity of a comic not of [Joan] Rivers's bad-girl school: Tina Fey."

-- New York Times

"Where have I been all of Chelsea Handler's life? I had no idea how funny, how brilliant she is. She is too clever for words."

-- Liz Smith, New York Post

"Chelsea Handler is a terrific comedian and a hilarious writer."

-- Jay Leno

Présentation de l'éditeur

Welcome to Chelsea Handler's world—a place where absurdity reigns supreme and a quick wit is the best line of defense.

When Chelsea Handler needs to get a few things off her chest, she appeals to a higher power—vodka. Seems reasonable, when considering that she discovered her boyfriend was having an affair with a Peekapoo and she had to pretend to be honeymooning with her father in order to upgrade to first class.

In this highly entertaining, deliciously skewed collection, Chelsea mines her past for stories about her family, relationships, and career that are at once singular and ridiculous. Whether she’s convincing her third-grade class that she has been chosen to play Goldie Hawn’s daughter in the sequel to Private Benjamin, deciding to be more egalitarian by dating a redhead, or looking out for a foulmouthed, rum-swilling little person who looks just like her...only smaller, Chelsea has a knack for getting herself into the most outrageous situations. Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea showcases the candor and irresistible turns of phrase that have made her one of the freshest voices in comedy today.

I love this book its funny and made me laugh out loud all the time, even when I was in the subway and people just stare but I couldn't help it! Chelsea is a seriously gifted writer, who combines funny and raunchy better than any woman.
I would recommend it to anyone who want to stressless a little and just laugh out loud :)

2.0 étoiles sur 5 Hmm.. Painfully boring and rarely ever funny 16 décembre 2015

I love Chelsea but didn't enjoy this book. It's as if she threw it together while drunk just to make a quick buck. There is no real story line and she elaborates on things that. don't matter and that nobody cares about. There was maybe two funny stories.. One involving a dog.. And her brawling with some teenagers but most of the book is such a bore that I couldn't wait to finish it.. And then.. It just ended in a strange and unfulfilled way. Won't be buying anymore of her books but will watch her standup.

There was nothing actually funny about this book. There were random, disgusting episodes with lots of the "f" word but nothing actually humorous. I bought this book because a friend recommended it to me. However, she had no idea that the book's title was take from Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret by Judy Blume. Personally, I think this book is an insult to Judy Blume and her book. I was so disgusted with it, that I threw it away.

I was so looking forward to enjoying this book, since I truly laughed my booty off with her Horizontal Life story, but this book was just... *smh* She tries to be funny and it doesn't work for most of it. Towards the end she makes unspeakable racial stereotypes about Mexicans. They have the cleaning gene, meaning, Mexicans were born to clean. Shameful! I don't know if this book is fact or fiction or both, but I hope the "Mexican" girls really did beat her a$$, including the white girl who was trying to act Mexican. Who says sh** like that? She needs to stop drinking with her ugly a$$! She took a picture recently with an apple hiding her private parts and looked completely wasted. I'm glad I only paid $0.01 for this garbage and that was one cent too many!

I liked Chelsea's first book, and I really loved this one - I feel like she really hit her writing stride in this second book, you can totally see the humor you've come to love from watching her show. There were plenty of things that had me laughing out loud, it was exactly the read I was looking for.

One of the things I like about Chelsea is that she and I have several things in common, including our love of vodka. I mean, all I really needed to do was hear this title to know I would enjoy the book! Her life is more vodka filled than my own, but it's always amusing to hear the kinds of trouble other people get into when they've been drinking. And this book has a great story of why you should never drive drunk, despite the humorous situation Chelsea finds herself in.

My personal favorite story was the one about dog sitting, I found myself laughing the most and even snorting a few times. For the record, I snort all the time, and I have a feeling that some day I will also start peeing a little when I laugh hard. It's quite possible that an experience involving Chelsea will bring this about, because she really is that funny to me.

This is exactly the kind of thing I like to read from a comedy writer - based in truth coming from their own life, but still very funny and completely lived up to my expectations. I think Chelsea's style is something you either love or hate, so I doubt there will be mixed reviews from anyone who is already familiar with her. I'm not very easily offended, all the stories were hilarious to me, and I think a lot of people who like her will think the same thing.

I read my first Chelsea Handler book (Stories of my Horizontal Life) on my honeymoon, thinking it would be the perfect travel read. It overwhelmed and got a raving review from myself. While still vacationing, because I breezed through the first book, I downloaded this one. I never got a chance to start it on the honeymoon so it sat in my Kindle collection for a couple of months.

I have had some down time recently and saw this book sitting on my "kindle shelf". Knowing how much I loved the first one, I decided to go ahead and start this one.

I don't typically laugh out loud at a book, but these books had me hooting and hollering the entire time. People probably thought I was crazy. Some people complain that some of the stories in these books are crude, and while some of them might be, they did not offend me at all. The only story that sticks out at me that I did not like was the story about the midget named Kimmy. Other than that "chapter" though I thought all the stories were equally as good.

This is a great beach read, travel read, or any day book. Chelsea Handler is comical and a decent writer at that. Although expensive, I still recommend buying these- you won't be sorry!
