Update: I ordered another one of these, my third, along with the smaller Sysport. This time I got them through a dealer (The Tool Nut), who had the units dropped shipped directly from Festool USA. They came solidly wrapped, attached to a shipping pallet. What a difference--and for no extra charge, I assume because Festool's pricing policy provides for very substantial margins. The Tool Nut is an Amazon third party seller that also operates festoolproducts.com. There are many other Festool dealers, but if you live outside New York (which I don't) you'll also save on taxes. It obviously doesn't matter if the Tool Nut isn't near you since the units are shipped from Festool to you. Interestingly, I when i emailed Peter at the Tool Nut, he told me that it just doesn't work to ship these sheet metal boxes through either UPS or FedEx because the normal boxes just don't provide enough protection. He said he believes as many as 90% of these get damaged when handled by UPS and FedEx and he routinely advises customers to always sign for delivery by adding "Subject to Inspection." Good tip, no matter what method you choose for delivery. The only other option is to have a dealer order them and tell you when they come in so you can pick them up yourself--but, of course, that's no guarantee that YOU won't damage them on the way home.
Ordered from Tool Nut. Sys-Port was drop shipped by truck from Festool USA (came from Indiana) to my home in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The Sys-Port arrived double boxed with the product packaged in its own cardboard box and then this package was in a larger cardboard box. The inner box was surrounded by sealed air packets to keep the inner package protected. The outer package was heavy cardboard and was strapped to a wooden pallet with Nylon strap tape-easy to cut off.
Nice storage system. Comes with 5 drawers which are easy to adjust for your systrainers. Both old style and new style systrainers fit well. Also comes with 4 casters, the two front ones are locking wheel type with toe pedal lock & release. Use 11/16" offset box wrench to install casters. Very happy with the purchase.
It is, like my other FESTOOLS, well made and designed to work extremely well. The drawers move smoothly in and out on metal ball bearing full extension euro slides. Changing drawer height/location isn't hard; I had only to use hand pressure to get the inner drawer slide bracket loose from the case per the included instructions. The slides went firmly back into the case with the same hand pressure. I like the 2 locking caster wheels and the dense rubber mat on the top surface which both protects sharp edges and keeps things from skittering around like they would on bare metal.
Attaching the caster wheels takes either a (17mm?) offset wrench or a box wrench - a crescent or open wrench won't fit into the recess in which the nut sits.
I buy FESTOOLs because I believe they work exceptionally well and should outlast me. The real insight is that I plan to buy another.
Update: As of 09/2012 I'm still very happy with my Sysport though I haven't bought a second unit. It follows me around the shop keeping the FESTOOLs and their accessories I use most frequently within an arms reach. The caster wheels are large enough to go over most sawdust and light debris, but will get hung up on extension cords and small cut offs.
