Présentation de l'éditeur

DreamWorks Animation presents Megamind, starring Will Ferrell as Evil Genius Megamind and Tina Fey as Roxanne Ritchi, the Lois Lane-esque love interest, and Brad Pitt as Metro Man in the only animated film to cast the super hero genre in an entirely new light. In its own interpretation of the superhero comic book genre, Megamind takes the familiar characters found on the paneled page - the brainy villain with an oversized head, the independent female reporter who never lacks a snappy comeback, the hero with great hair and a V-shaped torso - and puts them in a radically new configuration in which the villain turns out to be a good guy. On screen, Megamind's journey is one of the moral maturation, but just as inspiring is the film's visual evolution during the developmental process. Inside The Art of Megamind you'll find how the talented crew at DreamWorks Animation combined Silver Age comics with heavy metal aesthetics, dramatic spaces like those found in high-concept spy films with visions of blighted urban outskirts, and real-world technology with classic car designs to create one of the most inventive movie experiences this side of Metro City.

Ce film d'Animation 3D est pour moi l'un des meilleurs de Dreamworks après Dragons ! IL allie avec Brio humour et combats épiques dans un long-métrage étonnant ! A voir ! Le artbook est génial, montrant tous les designs de préparation des personnages ! Je kiffe !

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Colourful, not just blue 17 octobre 2010

The Art of Megamind is another nice large format art book published by Insights Editions. It's 156 pages and sports a non glossy dustjacket for a change.

The pages are filled with beautiful concept illustrations from DreamWorks artists. There are colour strips, character designs, background paintings, storyboards and designs on weapons of mass destruction, some robots and vehicles. The book is filled with plenty of vibrant colours besides blue of course.

There are actually more superheroes than there are shown in the trailers, and they are included in the book. There are sketches for each and you can see which ones made it and which were dropped. The variety is great. You might have seen Minion already, the gorilla robot with fishbowl head holding a piranha. Other designs for superheroes aren't as insane but still very creative.

It's interesting to see how the news reporter Roxanne's early sketches resembles Tina Fey (voice actor) and eventually moved away from that. On a side note, Megamind and Metro Man didn't look like Will Ferrell or Brad Pitt to start with.

The environment designs are also very beautiful and nicely painted. Much is on Metro City and there are also set locations which includes Megamind's lair. Right at the back are some fun designs for Megamind's army which are the robots, vehicles and gadgets. There are funny as well as weird outrageous designs. Donkey missile launcher, anyone?

The commentary is great and talks about the designs and characters.

Overall, a wonderful book for animation fans and artists.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Superb, as always 25 novembre 2010

Any Insight Edition book is worth the wait, and this tome is. Through the pages, we can find the development of all the characters from Bernard to Megamind. Copiously illustrated with stills taken from the film, students of the art form of illustration will find themselves inspired to design, doodle, and dream.

The book is broken into the following chapters:
Characters
Locations
Technology
Every environment, and facet of the film is illustrated, discussed and presented clearly. Books like this are so very valuable when compared to the films and to those interested in what happens behind the scenes. In this case, Will Ferrell provides the foreword, naturally.

Superb, appealing, and artistically marvelous, that is the Art of Megamind.

The product came in great shape.
The content in this book is striking and satisfying. You learn more about the Megamind universe, and the spirit of his story.
There are some storyboards and bits of concept art that you can find on blogs and such that aren't here, but this book is in no way short of content. They weren't shy about showing early concept art, the colors and styles of some of the art really stand out, and they knew how to present every piece of it in this book. I love this book. You will love this book.

As a big fan of the movie, and an aspiring animator myself, it was so interesting to get a look at the making of this movie. The graphics were wonderful and I finished looking through it in just two days. For those who can't get enough of this movie, I highly recommend this book. I give it five stars!

2.0 étoiles sur 5 It goes without pain and glory. 21 novembre 2011

Like the movie, this book goes unnoticed.

The reality is that the book is nice, has lots of color illustrations and quality, but it is one more than many books that do not add anything relevant to the collections of art books. It was an artbook made for collectors because the film require it, but it wasn't made with really artist interest or care. Only commercial interest.

It is not comparable to books like "The Hunchback of Notredamme" or "Kung Fu Panda" which was a complete innovation work. With illustrations cutting edge, style and unsurpassed quality and variety when presenting the images. This book tells what the film is easily.

Worth it? I have purchased it, and that means "yes", but if it run low on stock you will not lose a masterpiece.
