Présentation de l'éditeur

From fictional characters like Bridget Jones to feminist icons like Gloria Steinem, Jean Bolen’s bestselling classic Goddesses in Everywoman has been widely read and soundly praised.

Now comes a new book written in the same spirit and with the same vitality. In Artemis: The Indomitable Spirit in Everywoman, Bolen invites women and girls to discover the tenacity and courage of the Artemis archetype and how it can be tapped to live authentically.

To tell the story, Bolen delves deeply into the myth of Atalanta, the famous hunter and runner in ancient Greek mythology, a mortal woman who is identified with Artemis the Greek Goddess of the Hunt and Moon. Atalanta began life abandoned and left to die because she was born a girl. She faced the Calydon Boar and drew first blood; she was the runner who would demand to be beaten in a footrace by the man who could claim her as his bride. She exemplifies the indomitable spirit in competent, courageous girls and in the women they become. This is grit, the passion and persistence to go the distance, to survive, and to succeed.

She includes many real-life stories as well as mythological and fictional examples of women who are similar to Atalanta, including among others Princess Merida from the animated film Brave and Katniss from The Hunger Games. Artemis and Atalanta are the means through which readers can navigate their own personal exploration to become their authentic selves. Bolen dedicates this book to women and girls who embody the archetype of Artemis, who discover her uncrushable spirit in themselves or others.

HASH(0x893a0978) étoiles sur 5 This is a MUST read for all women, and all people who love women. 7 octobre 2014

Buy this book for every woman you love. Buy it for your young daughter, so you can support her in expressing the spectrum of what it is to be a woman. Buy it for your teen girl, your college daughter. I was the first generation to hear Marlo Thomas' 'Free To Be You And Me' album which helped to articulate the Artemis archetype in the 'Atalanta' story. I grew up with that model which was natural to my personal style of being. It helped to have that internally, as I was definitely a "tom-boy' who did not fit the conventional girl paradigm and cultural expectations. Still, the world was not ready for this in women, and even today at 46 I've had to do a lot of my own work to keep to my own voice, my own song. This book isn't just about women. It is about a holistic model of human potential. Deep gratitude to Jean Shinoda Bolen for writing all of her books, for loving the world and humanity, and for bringing more focus to the full potential of women that has lain rather quietly in realm of mythology. Thank you Jean.

Artemis is the book for every woman to read who needs encouragement to hold her vision, to maintain a strong voice, to keep a forward pace and to move her dream out into the world. Jean Bolen has emboldened my spirit and rekindled my dream with her new book.

Perhaps I read this book at the right time in my life, however I thought this was an excellent book for any woman looking to add deeper understanding to her life journey. Anyone wishing for more understanding of a woman's ancient history and how it applies today should read this book. While at times it seems as though we have forgotten our greater purpose, this book helped me to fill in and remove a few remaining doubts about personal choices I have made, giving me the perspective of real strength, not weakness. I am already recommending this book to many of my friends. I thought the book was well written and was pleased that it gave me the opportunity to better understand and explore the stories of other women who are sharing this same journey.

I had such high expectations for this book and was so excited when I bought but I couldn't even finish it and I always finish my books. Everything just seemed so forced - the examples were not really good ones, the author kept repeating the same points, the book had a terrible flow. Just very disappointing, especially because I was hoping to learn more about Artemis.
