Revue de presse

“This textbook [Irvine] teaches assembly and architecture fundamentals in a logical and concise manner for students with a reasonable CS1 backgrounds…and are applicable to higher-level programmers as to their understanding of what is happing to the code that they write and how it behaves during compilation and execution.” — John Doyle, Indiana University, Southeast

“The problems and exercises are of good quality and quantity; they always have similarity within the chapter examples, but they are presented in a more challenging way. Students can pick-up skills that can be transferred to solving a new problem.” — Yinping Jiao, South Texas College

“The book [Irvine] is well-organized. The chapters are lined-up such that after you cover the foundations presented in chapter 1-8, you can jump to any chapter you like consistent with what you think the students should know for upcoming classes.” — Remzi Seker, University of Arkansas, Little Rock

“Wonderful! This edition…added clearer examples to make it easy to understand assembly language and computer architecture from the programmer’s point-of-view. I am very impressed with the clarity of explanations. The diagrams are simple and complement the discussions perfectly.” — David Topham, Ohlone College

“The coverage of 16-bit mode is superb…”increasingly historical.”” — John-Thomas Amenyo, York College, City College of New York --Ce texte fait référence à l'édition Relié .

Présentation de l'éditeur

5.0 étoiles sur 5 OUTSTANDING!! 22 janvier 2015

OUTSTANDING!!! Now that Kip has removed a lot of the dependence on the custom libraries, this is hands down the very best book on Assembly Language, and I've read quite a few. Please do not base your opinions on previous releases of this series. This one (7th Edition) is a homerun!

Half way through the book and the material is sound. My reason for rating it lower is not having the answers available at the end of the chapter. After reaching out, it's apparently since the publisher doesn't want that material to leak since it can be used for college level quizes, etc. Well, i'm not a college student, and i find that being able to validate what i've leared a helpful thing. Without the answers, it's sometimes hard to validate that. They need to find a way to make that work.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 More of a Manual than a textbook 11 juillet 2016
Par A. Munoz - Publié sur Amazon.com

The textbook covers a lot of material and you should learn everything you need but the writing style is difficult to follow at times. Because there's so many instructions and mnemonics to learn, it covers everything with brief examples that will be hard to understand at first, specially chapters 2 through 4. I realized late in the game that the book covers details more and more as you proceed so don't get too stuck when certain things don't make complete sense. There's still something missing about this textbook. It feels more like a manual than a textbook book.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Good introduction for beginners to assembly language 15 décembre 2013

I was required by my university to take a class on assembly programming, and this was the book for the course. Overall, the book does a great job explaining concepts to beginners, though in some parts it can get a bit tedious. Has examples of application all throughout, as well as practice problems for each section and chapter. Only complaint is that some chapters got *very* focused on using the book's library (that wouldn't be used in practice), and didn't really talk about "best practices" for assembly language programming.

Overall though, I would recommend this book!

3.0 étoiles sur 5 It's okay. 26 août 2013

Had to purchase it for class. As a college textbook it is okay, but I don't expect to use 32-bit MASM much if at all in the real world. It does give a good overview of assembly concepts though. Also the reliance on Irvine libraries means there is even less to learn from this book.

I expect this book to be replaced by a mostly 64-bit ASM book soon in most classrooms.
