Présentation de l'éditeur

As a thirty-two-year-old, single restaurant manager, Jenna McClure is all too aware of her ticking biological clock. Elizabeth Demauer, a fertility clinic doctor, helps her patients bear children—a joy she can never share. But these two women have more in common than just a yearning for motherhood. When they cross paths, Elizabeth sees not only the sister she never knew existed but the once-in-a-lifetime chance to realize her deepest desire…by any means necessary.

Together with her lover—a rogue physician and charismatic cult leader—Elizabeth masterminds the ultimate theft. But their carefully laid plans could be derailed by Eric Troutman, the heroic reporter who’s fallen in love with Jenna and will stop at nothing to solve her sudden disappearance. And the more his relentless investigation tightens the noose around Elizabeth and David, the more their “victimless crime” threatens to become anything but.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Pretty good book 5 septembre 2016

This book proved very good in ways I thought it wouldn't. It started out fast, slowed as most do and then picked back up. It was like reading a zig zag type of book as most books are. Unfortunately, also with this book, there are a lot of ups and downs but I didn't find this book boring at all. It did keep my interest in some ways while talking about infertility along with using drugs to make one totally forget things. That was mind boggling to me and that's enough said because I don't like spoilers nor do I like giving away a good read. I suggest that if you are interested in reading this book, than please pick it up and read this book. You won't be SORRY. Yes...there are some things that are predictable but all in all pretty good.😁😁

In all, this was a good novel. Written well, stable main characters. I just had expected more, more nail-biting. I think if I had read it under a different title, say a more appropriate title, I would have had a different experience. The Baby Thief as a title suggests someone is stealing multiple babies, especially paired with the cover photo... just wasn't the fast-paced nail-biting book I was hoping for.

To me, this book was unfinished. It was just an average book to begin with. The writing style was originally enjoyable, but then I started to notice too many subplots that were just not finished. What happened to Zeke? Maybe I was just reading with my mind off of this story line totally, but I don't remember anything other than him collapsing from chest pains. If it was so badly done that I don't even remember it, then this says a lot to me. What happened to the other ladies from the doctor's/pastor's congregation? What happened to Sarah? Just too many "what happeneds" for me. Okay, so it may not be the best of grammar, but this author's grammar wasn't the best at times, either. It was a very "fluff" piece and I think there are a lot of other books out there more worth the time and more interesting to read.

I have enjoyed reading L.J. Sellers' books in the Detective Jackson series and loved everyone. This book really blew my mind. Sellers is a master of the suspense book. She knows how to keep your interest and some of the characters in this one are downright diabolical. The heroine Jenna McClure finds herself in a life threatening situation after consulting Dr Elizabeth Demauer about conceiving a child via artificial insemination. Dr Demauer notices a resemblance between herself and Jenna and after studying her history she learns that they are biological sisters. Elizabeth is unable to have children as a result of having been molested by her adoptive father. With the help of her diabolical colleague Dr David Carmichal she hatches a scheme to steal Jenna's eggs and implant them in herself. Jenna's boyfriend reporter Eric Troutman has to recuse Jenna from Dr Carmichal's clutches to save her life. He has kidnapped her and has her hidden away in his weird church,The Church of the reborn which consists strangely of women and children and is located miles from the nearest town. It's a story of the science of assisted reproduction gone seriously and dangerously awry in the hands of some sick individuals. The story keeps you on the edge of your seat. You not only enjoy the romance between Jenna and Eric but the suspense is first rate.
I didn't know what to expect in a book that was not in the Jackson series but this book just further convinced me that Sellers is just a great writer.

This is the first time I've read a book by this author, and now I will be seeking out more of her books.

One thing I liked about this book is the way the author explained each character by changing point of view; at first it was distracting, but then I realized how much it helped explain things & move the story along more quickly for the many twists and turns throughout.

Also, although some of the ideas are a bit crazy, everything that happens is believable, from the cult environment to the egg harvesting clinic. Even the reason behind Elizabeth's actions, as desperate as they are, seem believable given the details about her life. The only thing I might question is Carmichael's willingness to agree to Elizabeth's wild plan in the first place, but then, the author gives some background that makes it less difficult to suspend disbelief there as well.

I was a bit confused as to why the story started with Elizabeth when the story was more about Jenna (& Eric), but in the end it made sense because it was Elizabeth's desperation that was the basis for the rest of the story.

There was enough suspense that I was often unsure what would happen next, though the final ending wasn't entirely unpredictable.

In this Kindle version there were some typos, but they were few enough it didn't distract much; in fact, it seems like some of the typos may have been missed because the storyline at that point was so exciting it was easy to read right past them. :) There were a couple places where they forgot to change the font after writing the dates in italics, so entire pages were italicized, but it was easy enough to realize the mistake and just treat it as normal text.

I would definitely recommend this book. This one was hard to put down, and I don't find many books that have that effect on me.
