I am still working my way through this cookbook, I have made several cakes, cookies, and lots of muffins. I enjoy the tutorials and additional tips, even though I am an avid baker, I found the descriptions and information on butter fat fascinating. With that said, I have found a few problems with her recipes. The muffins in particular don't seem to be sized right for the recipe. For instance some recipes, it says yields 12 and I am shorting each cup, to even squeak twelve smaller muffins out. Another recipe says yields 12 and filled to the brim I still have enough batter for 2 or 3 more. Same with the brownie buttons. Some of her recipes were AWESOME, the chocolate chip cookies, were fantastic! The perfect party cake was awesome! And the pound cake was really good, however I used $9 / lb butter. The chocolate peanut butter torte was good, but I had issue with the amount of crust (not enough to cover the pan up the sides 2 in) and found some sticking (not using a parchment round) .

I am enjoying the cookbook, however there are some issues, I got this thinking she was a guru in the kitchen....I am learning she has her faults as well, or at least this book.

I have not experienced any of the baking time mishaps other reviewers talked about, I am pretty good about knowing cooking times though. And she does mention that times vary with all sorts of variables. So I always do a smell test.

We shall see how it goes, I plan on making EVERY single recipe!

I really wanted to like this book. Everyone raves about it. The pictures are beautiful. It's thick and well-made. But unfortunately, I don't think the recipes were tested properly. I would say about half of the recipes I tried either completely flopped (due to errors in the recipe) or were just plain unappealing. The Chocolate Chocolate Cupcakes cooked up properly, but were dry and tasteless with a bad crumb (but the batter had been so tasty!!). The Arborio Rice Pudding never gelled...it was rice soup, but I have since heard there is an error in this recipe. The Butterscotch Pudding was pasty and eggy, and the scotch killed every other flavor. The Thanksgiving Twofer Pie turned out, but the rum was too strong as a counterpoint to the other flavors.

On the other side, the Linzer Sables were pretty good, and the Savory Corn and Pepper Muffins might make another appearance. The Fresh Ginger and Chocolate Gingerbread was pretty delicious, but I took alternate steps to avoid any burnt edges that Dorie warns is inevitable (it's not!). I also liked the World Peace Cookies, but they're just too much trouble to bother with again since the dough is too dry to really stay together and I don't think I should have to fight with my food.

Overall, that's about 50/50 on the recipes, which isn't good enough for me. I sold my copy, but I wish it had been otherwise. I would have liked a big, weighty book on baking with some really amazing recipes.

If you are a baker, you need this cookbook. The techniques, recipes, and style of Dorie's baking style is genius and should be practiced more than Martha's baking style any day of the week. Her World Peace cookie recipe is one of my favorites. It is a bit large and clunky but well worth the space.

I was temporarily shocked when I saw the size of this book! Anyone who can read can bake from this book. The author has done a wonderful job with these recipes and most recipes use common pantry ingredients. The book is pretty heavy and I would suggest getting a book stand to use while cooking from this book. The photography in the book is magnificent, and I would guess most people would be baking something from this book within 24 hours of receiving it. I have a few excellent baking books, and this is a great addition. This would be a great bridal shower/wedding gift.

I had never heard of Dorie Greenspan before and I soon learned that she has quite the following! In reference to this book, the recipes have all worked out pretty well and the ingredients are all very accessible. I can open this book any day of the week and find something that I can make with whatever I have in my pantry. In addition, I can look up her recipes from this book and I can find loads of reviews, since there is an online club called Tuesdays with Dorie.

I love this book so much that I have bought it as a gift for three friends. That says a lot since I like to buy cookbooks.
