5.0 étoiles sur 5 Book Description 27 février 2007
Par Zoo Book Sales - Publié sur Amazon.com
The most detailed and comprehensive book ever written about one species of snake. Twenty chapters are devoted to general topics of interest and importance to keepers and breeders of ball pythons. A comprehensive bibliography lists articles, papers, and books written about the species. Includes carefully researched and detailed information relevant to the maintenance and breeding of all species of snakes. All snake keepers-hobbyists and scientists, professionals and beginners-will find this book a treasure. 320 pp. Hardcover w/DJ individually boxed.

At this time, ball pythons have an unprecedented popularity around the world. Authors Dave and Tracy Barker are keepers renowned in the world community of herpetoculture; they are biologists with decades of hands-on experience with pythons. Their expertise and success in working with pythons are unequaled. The Barkers have kept and bred more species of pythons than any other facility or institution. They bring to this book a rare consolidation of herpetoculture and herpetology, combined with their obvious affection for pythons.

Twenty chapters are devoted to general topics of interest and importance to keepers and breeders of ball pythons. A comprehensive bibliography lists articles, papers, and books written about the species. And because of the book's breadth of information, all snake keepers-hobbyists and scientists, professionals and beginners-will find this book a treasure of carefully researched and detailed information relevant to the maintenance and breeding of all species of snakes.

Ball pythons are beautiful snakes, and the book is illustrated throughout with informative and fascinating figures and images. The extraordinary variations of color and pattern for which ball pythons are known and selectively bred are showcased in a gallery featuring some of the most beautiful snakes in the world.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 The must-have ball python book 3 mars 2008
Par Margot Early - Publié sur Amazon.com
Excellent and comprehensive with many beautiful photographs. This book is detailed, extremely well-written and edited and utterly readable. The authors cover everything from ball python worship in West Africa to tips on incubating eggs. Every experienced and beginning ball python owner should have this book. The authors warn against perils from seemingly innocuous features of your snake's habitat (for instance, how a young snake can get stuck--and die--in a piece of pipe larger than his body). A bit of tongue-in-cheek humor as well. The only drawback is the use of tiny grey (!?!?) text that appears beneath plates. Reading glasses and a good flashlight help here, and it's no reason to pass up this outstanding text. This is wisdom from masters in the art of ball python husbandry. Buy this book; it's worth every penny, and you owe it to your snake.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 One of the best books on Ball Pythons 18 décembre 2007
Par D. Alpert - Publié sur Amazon.com
The Barkers, who wrote this book, are one of the best in the business. This, along with Kevin McCurley's book, should be staples in any ball python breeder's library. This book is massive, and the pictures of the morphs alone are worth buying the book. However, I must point out, you can buy this book cheaper from VPI directly.

Well folks..., it seems as though the last review of this book was some seven and a half years ago?

First, a little BACKGROUND. Early 1981 I joined the Marine Corps and subsequently retired late 2008, Python Regius had undergone some very impressive CHANGES in that time! Imagine my surprise to see a young Albino Piebald male or several unproven Piebald, 66% Het Albino Pied females, in my grubby paws? Talk about Pure SHOCK and AWE!!!
We have been breeding Python Regius for nearly two years (our breeding project began with some very expensive morphs, an honest breeder, lots of hope and a prayer. We managed to carefully and faithfully follow the instructions of that breeder with stunning results, like, "Wow... , we really did it", results;) and have remained hungry for every tidbit of information we can get, until now.
In short, we have gone thru most every book with more than a hundred cover to cover pages, perused most every popular website and talked with many noble, well accomplished breeders on the subject.
While it would be impossible to compete with the well written previous reviews. We believe it's important to add the fact that after all these years, this book still leads the pack in most every regard (short of the ever lengthening list of "new morph" discoveries). This book, should be THE first book in a collection simply because it gives anyone new/rusty to the field a "basic starting point". The newer books frankly, ASSUMED you already knew the basic terms, language and keepers knowledge of the trade (especially, if you are paying their handsome prices for their books). Make no mistake, there are other good books but, this one will give you the introductory tools from which to better understand all others. It's written in a very readable manor that is sure to keep your attention, that of your teenager, even the experienced breeder!
With hindsight mostly 20/20, had we started with THIS book in the first place, it would have saved alot of head scratching, some "What the heck is this guy talking about", thoughts and a refreshing review of the biological peculiarities of a snake. Well done, indeed!
Semper Fi, Wyatt
