The Good: They look just as nice in person as they do in the Amazon pics. The black on black is so slick looking.
The Bad: They run a half size large (all my previous Lavers fit me perfectly in 8.5, but I would definitely need to go down to an 8 in order to get these to fit me). Also, as many many people have mentioned in other reviews, these are much heavier, which is a problem if you are buying them for anything other than bumming around the city, like say, PLAYING TENNIS, which is something someone buying a shoe named after ROD LAVER might occasionally want to do.
Short version: These are about a half size large, and they are heavy as heck. Excellent choice if you're just looking for style, though.
Update: I went ahead and put them on my kitchen scale out of curiosity. See the pictures. The 2015 version has gained a whopping 146 grams (or 5.2 oz)! Each shoe weighs over a pound! It's really bizarre that they'd change the iconic Laver so radically like this.
If you're buying these shoes just for relaxing and hanging out then you can't go wrong. Great style and fit but if you plan on playing any footbag you will probably be disappointed. I'm gonna try and adjust but might have to go to ebay for a used pair of the originals.
Brief History: Adidas discontinued this shoe a while ago and just reintroduced it. It has a more durable sole but it's about twice the weight.
Firstly was how heavy they are. I have NIKE basketball shoes lighter than this. Ain't no one playing no tennis in these. Like wearing cement shoes. And they're big. Consider a half a size down. I'd returned them because they were too big. Plus the weight? I was thinking something Canvas Converse feel, these I felt like wearing clown shoes.
Next, they just weren't 'understated' how I'd hoped. They more modern than vintage. They look more like adidas 90s range that was worn for hip hop, not the super light weight tennis shoe of the 70s.
I mean, if you're after a more modern, pop culture inspired sneaker who likes a heavy weight shoe with a bit more design in it - these are great. My cousin who loves 80s hip hop would love these.
My only problem is they're badly marketed. I mean they're named after a tennis player. They're a fine heavy duty cut off sneaker masquerading as a easy going vintage tennis shoe. They should be called KRS ONEs or whatever the kids are into these days. Rod Laver never wore no cement shoes playing tennis.
Ps the supplier was great. Very fast delivery. No problems taking returns. Will definitely buy from him again.
Pps why is it so hard to find a real simple low key vintage white tennis shoe?
