5.0 étoiles sur 5 Great chops builder! 8 avril 1999
Par Margaret Stevens - Publié sur Amazon.com

This is one of the better bass instruction books I have found and I have looked at or bought a good many of them. I use other books, but I always come back to Progressive Bass Guitar. It really helps the student learn the fretboard. It also teaches a variety of blues/rock riffs that can make someone sound good in a short time. It also touches on transposing skills, finger patterns and music theory. I pretty good buy for the price. I showed it to my bass teacher, who thought it would be good to develop your chops. Most of his students study jazz and have a tendency to play most types of music in a jazz style. Since the book is slanted more towards early rock/pop, he plans on recommending it to some of them to expand their styles of playing. The only negative comment is that the riffs on the CD are lumped together with four-five riffs per track. That makes it hard to reach a specific riff, but that is really a minor complaint. Other than that, I can't recommend Progressive Bass Guitar enough!

You will have to learn more down the line and do a little back tracking if you are serious about playing bass. BUT...YOU know this already because no book has it all! So go ahead and try out this course! You'll learn a lot from this puppy!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Great book to start with bass 24 août 2015

I am loving this book, I bought the digital edition, and I don't use it so much because the videos that come with it show the music, the fingering and the the tab in real time, as the music goes. It is instructional music, so don't expect to play real covers. Just really useful chord progressions, like 12 bar blues, rock music, etc.The book has the music and very useful explanations about technique, a little bit of theory (always necessary), etc. And it starts at no reading level. I play guitar, and I bought a bass guitar, and I am using this book to learn to read bass clef and to learn some grooves. And it works, I am starting to discern between G clef and F clef, without having to think about it. Also, the progression is very natural and I don't feel that the book rushes the learner. I find this book really useful. I am a big fan of their instructional books. My other favorite ones are the truefire.com website, and Hal Leonard stylistic guitar and bass books. If you want to start to play bass from level 0, this is a great book. That said, it is always great to use it with a teacher, but given that you have all modes of learning, visual, auditory, reading, etc. you can't go wrong.

I use this book to introduce my bass students to music reading. It's well organized, straight forward, and effective.

Don't expect it to make you a world class bass player by itself, though. Get a good teacher, practice, and use this book as a starting point.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Feels like playing Guitar Hero on Bass!!!!! 23 décembre 2008
Par Thomas A. Horan - Publié sur Amazon.com

Learning Bass could not get less complicated than this. In minuets you will be following the riffs on screen and playing your bass. It does feel like guitar hero, but you are really playing music on an instrument.
