Présentation de l'éditeur

In the prim-and-proper Philadelphia of 1820, a shocking marriage…

It was the perfect contract for a marriage of convenience to a woman he didn't even know. Didn't want to know. Justin Randolph, a wealthy Philadelphia widower responsible for two small children, is convinced that love is a myth. The only reason for marriage is to find a mother for the children under his care.

Mistaken for Justin's intended bride, Elizabeth Frazier seizes the opportunity to escape a forced marriage to wealthy, abusive Reginald Burton-Smythe. In contrast to Reginald's unwelcome attentions, Justin's aloof indifference is appealing, and the plight of his motherless little girls pierces her heart. Like Justin, Elizabeth enters into the marriage seeking not love, but safety. God, however, has a different plan…

Since others have already told what the book is about, I will just say it is a very enjoyable read and one romance historical lovers should check out. It is a book readers will become engrossed in. Dorothy also has a new book with Justin's sister as the main character entitled JOY FOR MOURNING which is a July 05 release from Steeple Hill. I have read it and it is excellent also, one that should also be picked up if you decide to purchase this one, which I really hope you decide to do!

When Elizabeth married Justin Randolph, it was strictly a business deal. She was to take care of the children, run his house, and put up a good "wifely" appearance for people in general. No intimacy. For this, she received room and board, proper clothing, and a goodly monetary settlement. That was Justin's understanding and desire.

Elizabeth`s desire was a place to escape her father and marriage to Reginald Burton-Smythe. Intimacy was not necessary. She accepted the clothing to look proper but wanted no money. "...I do not wish to feel purchased."

She thought God had forsaken her. But did she want to know a Father God who left such bad things happen to his children? Her father was a wealthy, selfish, greedy man. Money was his god and Elizabeth his chattel. Were all men like that? According to her mother, yes. But she had heard of a different relationship between her grandparents.

Justin was a ship owner of means. He had earlier been jilted for lack of money by his fiancée and later was married for his money. His wife left him for her old boyfriend. Her death left him with two babies and a bitter, battered heart.

But God had other plans. Isaiah 61:1-3 reads: The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; bind up the brokenhearted, comfort all that mourn; give unto them beauty for ashes...."

Could Elizabeth and Justin learn to trust God and each other? Could God heal? Were they willing to let Him?

Dorothy Clark has woven a beautiful, compelling story of God's mercy and healing as she shows how He can draw two bruised and battered people back to Himself. Truly, God can and does give "beauty for ashes" in our lives as we yield ourselves to Him. - Linda Demorest, Christian Book

The Randolph Family
Book 1

This is book 1 of six. The books in the series are:
Beauty for Ashes
Joy for Mourning
Family of the Heart
The Law and Miss Mary
Prairie Courtship
Frontier Father

The first two books are Steeple Hill. The last four books are Love Inspired Historical. I started with the first book and frankly cannot wait to get the second book! This book was a lot better than I expected. After all, I've read lots of Marriage of Convenience stories, but never one quite like this!

Both of the main characters have had their hearts deeply scarred. Justin has been rejected by two women who gave him a bad taste for women. But he knew he needed a wife to run his household and mother the two children. Elizabeth Frazier had horrible parents. She ran away when her father was forcing her into a marriage with a monster who had assaulted her. She was happy to marry a man who never wanted intimacy. She could be the lady of the manor and a mother to his two children.

So many assumptions were made by Justin, and so many misunderstandings were made. But as the weeks passed, the two learned so many things about the other. That's all I can say about the plot!

It was a wonderful book! I loved the scene of their first night at the Randolph home when he was explaining about why it had to be the way it was going to be. I loved everything about this book. Watching these two come together in the end was magical. This is one of those books you don't want to stop reading once you start!

The author uses language that captivates you. She has well-defined her characters and put a multitude of personalities in her story. She has created a world of the rich elite who have maids and nannies for their children.

Par Tina L. Miller - Publié sur
Format: Broché
What would you sacrifice to escape an arranged marriage with a cruel, evil man? Would you leave your home and sacrifice any hope of finding true love? Would you trade a loveless marriage of convenience to an absolute stranger for safety from the abusive man your parents want you to marry? Elizabeth Frazier is faced with this dilemma in Beauty for Ashes. If you enjoy historical romance, you'll enjoy this story that interweaves suspense and romance with Elizabeth's growing awakening to the power of prayer and her own personal trust in God. When she discovers God is a real and loving God, perhaps she can open her own heart to love-and trade beauty for ashes.
