Présentation de l'éditeur
If you are interested in making your practice solution-focused quickly and effectively, look no further than this text. The authors, co-founders of the Brief Therapy Group, demystify the process of psychotherapy, making the concept of solution-based therapy accessible and relevant for newcomers to the field and for professionals seeking to apply SFBT principles in their own practices. The book’s hands-on approach allows practitioners to adopt the authors' simple, self-teaching style and apply it to their work with clients. Practical information is included on:
- the differences between the solution-based approach and traditional therapy
- establishing a successful therapeutic alliance with clients
- determining detailed, meaningful goals for the client
- mapping the client’s journey to a solution
- possible “dead ends” in applying this type of therapy
- and much more!
As an academic textbook, it is ideal for individual study in a variety of courses, including social work, counseling, nursing, psychology, education, and any other helping professions.

Would highly recommend for seasoned as well as new professionals wanting to understand how solution focused brief therapy works.
Glen Bushers, LCSW
This book summarizes the entire concept of SFT in just under 100 pages. Think of it as the 'one-minute-SFT-primer' and you are almost there. This is light, mostly non-technical reading, presented with enough humor to keep anyone interested. However, Sharry et al have not skimped on concept. The authors have taken years of research, going all the way back to Dr. Albert Ellis' work on Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy and distilled it into a quick, useful handbook that can be read in a weekend, applied immediately to your field of work, and used as a reference over and over again. It is filled with practice exercises and sample dialogs to help both the experienced 'problem focused' therapist and the 'solution forced' sales person shift quickly and painlessly to this new way of client service thinking.
If you are involved in a sales process of any kind, I think you will find that this book will greatly expand your business. Other professions can utilize the SFT method too, and teachers will find this book especially useful. Almost anyone who is involved with the public will find that this is a very good addition to their personal library. And, if you have children, this book is a definite MUST OWN.
