5.0 étoiles sur 5 Ties up a lot loose ends in Jack McClure's Washington DC 28 septembre 2015

All the reviewers that knocked this novel and summed up the book in one sentence have probably not read the series. This book is not a stand alone and as such the reviewer who wrote "Father Night" is a prequel to this book is incorrect. All Lustbader's series should be read in order and then the books with their various characters make sense and these characters come alive and are familiar to the reader who has previously acquainted him or herself with said characters in previous books.
I also enjoyed all the books with Nicolas Linnear. (mentioned in another review). If I am not mistaken there were 5 or 6.
There is a wonderful fantasy trilogy by Lustbader about the Princess of the Pearl which I really enjoyed.
Jack McClure is a well drawn and interesting person with a very complicated lover. In this book, which reads like the last in the series because of the end tying, I couldn't but notice that a lot of unpleasant bods got offed but the action was exiting and there no dull moments. Once I sat down to read this book I did it in long sittings and finished it fast. (I bought it a couple of years ago and it has been waiting on my Kindle app. )

This book is not one of Van Lustbader`s best. I have read many of his books, normally once you start reading it is hard to put them down. Beloved Enemy does not follow his norm. It closes a chapter in Jack Mcclure's adventures but it does so very, very slowly.
5.0 étoiles sur 5 The last book in the Jack McClure series 30 août 2016

Lustbader is an awesome storyteller, and he is as good in an american setting as in an international one. But the real treasures are in the asian settings, where he captures the imagination like no one else. Beloved Enemy is the last book in the Jack McClure series, and the book resolves itself in a very satisfactory manner.

I have enjoyed this author in the past but Beloved Enemy is not a good read. Too many death-defying escapes, twisted plot lines, breathless, silly sex scenes. This has been one of those books that I keep asking myself why am I reading it until I just decided to quit. I don't care how it ends.

Having read the other books in this series it was a worthwhile read. It was not as exciting as some of the others but will keep you interested in finishing it. It is a complex story with many characters so don' t read it if you have not read the preceding books or you will be lost.
