Présentation de l'éditeur

New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author, HP Mallory, brings you The Lily Harper Series!

“H.P. Mallory has a quick wit, a fresh voice, and a clever way with words. If you like Charlaine Harris, you’ll love H.P. Mallory!” ~ Larissa Ione, New York Times Bestselling Author

If you like your books steamy (this is an Epic Fantasy Romance) and you aren’t easily offended by potty-mouthed, crass guardian angels, read on!

BETTER OFF DEAD is the first book in the Lily Harper Series!

If there’s such a thing as luck, Lily Harper definitely doesn’t have it.

Killed in a car accident before it’s her time to go, Lily learns that the hereafter isn’t exactly what she hoped it might be.

First, there’s AfterLife Enterprises, the company responsible for sorting out the recently dead and sending them on their way to the Kingdom, (aka happily ever after,) or to the Underground City, (not so happily ever after.)

Learning that Lily’s death was indirectly their fault (her guardian angel, Bill, was MIA during her accident and was one of their employees,) Afterlife Enterprises offers Lily the chance to live again. But, as with most things involving the afterlife, beware the fine print. Most notably, Lily will become a soul retriever, venturing into the bowels of the Underground City to retrieve souls that were mistakenly sent there by Afterlife Enterprises during a Y2K computer glitch.

Second, there’s angel Bill. As if risking her second life in the Underground City wasn’t enough, Lily’s guide to the Underground is none other than her incompetent, alcoholic, womanizing guardian angel, Bill, the antithesis of anything wholesome. With only Dante’s Inferno and Bill to help her in her quest, Lily’s future isn’t looking bright.

Finally, there’s the legendary bladesmith, Tallis Black. As Scottish as his kilts and heavy brogue, Tallis Black is a centuries-old Celt who, for reasons only known to him, offers to train Lily and act as her escort into the depths of the Underground City. Dark, brooding and definitely dangerous, Lily knows she shouldn’t trust Tallis, but she also can’t deny her attraction to him.

Between soul retrieving in hell, dealing with Bill and trying to figure out what’s in it for Tallis, Lily wonders if maybe she would’ve just been better off dead.

The title of this new series does not do the first book justice. It is a really entertaining read and makes you glad the second one has already been published!!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Wonderful, Intense, and Romantic! 27 mars 2013

Wow I had stopped reading her other 2 series awhile back but when I got the email from the author saying a new series was just released, I gave her another chance. I must say this is the best novel from H.P. Mallory as of yet. It reminded me of Karen Marie Moning's Fever series in regards to the sexual tension and the mysticism surrounding the male lead. Once I started last night, I didn't put it down until 2 a.m.! I highly recommend this novel to any fans of a good paranormal romance and I can't wait for the next book in the series!

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Great book - excellent characters 27 mars 2013

This was a great read! I loved Bill - he was so unique and not your normal character in this genre. His comic relief was the perfect balance to the dark underground city. It was hard getting into Tallis' character, the great looking, deep voiced guide on their mission to collect a soul from the underworld, at first due to the Celtic accent - I spent the first several chapters reading out loud, but then fell for him as hard as Lily (the dead before her time heroine.). They clearly have a connection, and it left me wanting more.

H.P. Mallory does a great job of weaving today with the past with the paranormal. On their mission to the underground city, the relationships grew organically. It was fun, suspenseful, and smart!

This is a great escape book, filled with adventure, humor, history, and fun.

2.0 étoiles sur 5 So Disappointing!! 1 avril 2013

I'm a huge fan of H.P. Mallory's books and I was anticipating more of the same: a strong, witty heroine with an intriguing yet complicated love life. This book was not that at all. First of all, Lily is just annoying. The random self-help quotes are bizarre and she's just kind of a wet noodle as the main character. Sure, she's hot now, but she's still insecure, weak, and devoid of any real skill except fire-making. Tallis as the male lead is the WORST. I understand that he needed to be authentically Scottish, but I had to sound out everything he says in order to get some semblance of understanding. It made the book move very slowly and I almost quit reading halfway through. Tallis isn't exactly charming nor is there any real chemistry between Lily and him. Okay, he's got his shirt off a lot, but the only romantic tension between them is when he makes eye contact with Lily or smiles (which isn't very frequent). Really?? That's supposed to make us swoon?? And then there's Bill. I found him kind of funny at first but his incessant crudeness just gets old after a while. Most of his jokes are just potty humor that lack creativity or wit. Low lying fruit, H.P. I was hoping for another amazing series but unfortunately, this isn't one of them.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Love this new series! 27 mars 2013

Better Off Dead is a supernatural book with a female lead, but I think men would enjoy Ms. Mallory's sense of humor as well. I read Better off Dead as soon as it came out and loved it! It is the first book in a new series, so of course there's always the sense of wanting more at the end of the book, but I think Ms. Mallory always does a great job of making every book stand alone as a great full story as well. The characters are interesting and well thought out. There's lots of humor to keep the ball rolling. Once again she writes in a very easy to follow and enjoyable manner. I can't wait for the next book!

I like H.P. Mallory's books. I've read her two other series' prior to starting this series and I have to say this is hands down the best series from her yet. The characters are funny. This started as kind of wish fulfillment but turned into a great read. Brief plot summary: Lilly Harper is a plain looking chubby girl who accidentally dies before her time. She goes to limbo/bureaucratic hell, think scene from Supernatural where hell is you're just standing in a long, never-ending line she gets bamboozled into taking a job as a Retriever to retrieve lost souls. never mind that she has no training or experience. She's determined to be a Retriever to avoid purgatory for 100 yrs. She has help along the way and meets a mysterious enigma called the Bladesmith.
