Présentation de l'éditeur

Have you ever wondered how you can bring greater depth and clarity to your Tarot readings? Have you struggled to understand just what exactly is going on in your card readings, and how the cards relate to the object of the reading? For the first time, this book shows how the professionals use secret techniques that take Tarot readings to new and exciting levels. It goes beyond the surface levels of the Tarot spread and explores the hidden depths. It explains how to decode those parts of a Tarot spread that seem to make no sense and how to break out of readings that seem to have become 'stuck'. Using the power of the elemental symbolism of the cards, combined with numerological techniques, this book cracks the 'celtic cross' spread wide open to reveal exciting new levels of insight.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Taking The Tarot To A New Level 7 mai 2010

"Beyond The Celtic Cross" takes the Tarot to a new level. Based on a single reading, the reader is shown how to take the cards beyond positional meanings using the following techniques: Elemental Dignities, Card Counting and Card Pairing. The spread that is presented here was immediatedly taken from a positional to a linear format, and worked with in this manner.

The unique foundation of this book is that the reading in question is an actual reading that was done for co-author Catherine Chapman - this is real life, not an imagined scenario. Catherine contacted Paul by e-mail when she had trouble interpeting an important reading. Through a series of e-mails, Paul mentored Catherine into seeing the possibilities for expanding how the cards were working in her life.

The book is written as a dialogue between Paul and Catherine, giving the reader the feeling that they are "there" - part of the process. It is interesting to watch the journey that both parties take, and how the experience is a transformng one for both of them.

This is not a book to read and file away - it is a working reference that has the power to expand any reader's experience interpreting the cards.

Beyond the Celtic Cross, wasn't that far beyond in some ways. I rated it a "4" because I thought they could have taken this much further than where they did. I was also expecting other dynamic layouts - and if that's what you are looking for, then keep looking.

This is almost a story, told through a series of looking at the same set of cards in multiple views, taken from the original Celtic Cross layout. What you will learn, if this is new to you, is the idea of counting and pairing, cards. You will also get a glimpse of how influential the elements can be from card to card in a series. If you are looking for various ways of reading the cards, i would suggest Hughes-Barlow's other book, Tarot and the Magus or even better Elizabeth Hazel's Tarot Decoded. That being said, the example used in the book is a real life reading for Chapman with Barlow's assistance. She was confounded by her initial reading of the cards and asked for his help. They corresponded back and forth via email, and this book is the result of their efforts. One of the nice attributes is it shows a real glimpse of how one can use the Tarot for introspection, reflection and insight towards personal growth and seeing behavior patterns that might not have been as obvious without the aid of a reflection tool such as Tarot. There is an interesting twist at the end... but I'm not a spoiler, so if you want to find out, get the book.
1.0 étoiles sur 5 Highly confusing book 11 avril 2016

I wish I had seen tarot card reader and writer Janet Boyer's comments for this book in amazon reviews. I can't agree with her more. While the book offers a great technique to bring depth to your reading through card counting etc, the book in its core highly complicated and confusing. The emails conversation between Chapman and Huges-Barlow adds to more confusion. In the end we don't know what exactly is the right way or the outcome. Thoroughly disappointing book and a waste of money.

It is a logical-mental approach to the TAROT. It DOES NOT take you to a higher level.
Very disappointing. IT IS NOT ABOUT THE CELTIC CROSS. So why mention it ?
Cards MERGE into each other and a NEW meaning opens up to the surface each time with the TAROT.
IT is a good book for kindergarden and elementary school level practitioners.

Can I make a confession? I've been waiting for this book with bated breath and was mighty envious that Douglas of Tarot Eon had his hands on a copy before I did. I'm usually not the jealous type but I was in full on coveting mode when I read his review. I had to have it! Immediate gratification!!! Oh, the agony of waiting! Finally the day came when the familiar Amazon smiley box arrived at my door and I got my paws around the long awaited book.

I'm an old timer here in regards to tarot reading. I've been playing around with it for almost 30 years. I've dealt with clients from all walks of life and answered every type of question that you can imagine. But I still find myself learning and searching for new techniques (even though I am rather fond of my own methods!). A few months ago, I got turned on to some excellent blogs from the UK that had some curious systems (card counting, Elemental Dignities, etc.) that caught my eye and I've been intrigued ever since. This book, "Beyond The Celtic Cross" by Paul Hughes Barlow and Catherine Chapman (two of the aforementioned bloggers) sheds light on these techniques and helps the reader to apply them in a way that can turn any tarot reading into a richer experience.

Written in a dialogue fashion between the two authors, we get to see these methods in action so to speak. It begins with Catherine writing to Paul about a tarot reading that she was having trouble interpreting. With Paul as her steady guide, they deftly maneuver through the different systems and demonstrate how to interpret with them using Catherine's reading as the example throughout the entire book.

Card Counting is very new to me and it was confusing to understand - but by following along with their example, it finally begun to sink in. And yes - it does add a new dimension to tarot reading. I had a basic understanding of Elemental Dignities but this book cleared up any lingering questions I had. I am a very visual learner and by having Catherine's reading to "see" what was happening, I put the pieces together and was able to understand where they got their interpretations. This is a huge plus in my opinion.

Not only do we get to see the methods in action but we get to see Catherine grow as a tarot reader and visionary. This made the book a very personal experience, not just some old dry tarot book that would have bored me to tears. I highly recommend this to any tarot reader - but especially to those who are looking to shake up their current reading style. Trust me, you will never look at tarot the same!
