Very disappointed. I was looking for a "vintage" look with an antique "Wild West" feel. These cards deliver *none* of that.
I'll post pictures as time allows so you will be able to see for yourself.
Given the range of evocative playing card products on the market priced at half the $15 plus I paid for the MMS Texan 1889 Deck, I'm not impressed.
[EDIT 4/6/17] I left five star feedback for the vendor that made it clear that while the item was not as described in the listing I did NOT consider it the vendor's fault and that the speed and care they took in packing the cards was worthy of my rating. The vendor, Big Box LLC, got back to me and insisted on giving me an unasked for full refund and would not accept the cards being returned either. So I'm still two starring the product as described and still five starring the vendor.[/EDIT]
The front of the cards, like the backs, are done on a cream-colored background. The court cards are an early American standard design, and the colors are dark and rich. The numbers and pips are indicative of playing card designs of the time.
The Ace of Spades has the name TEXAN on top, done in fine, capital letters in an Old West-style font. Below this is No '45. This refers to the year 1845, when Texas joined the Union. Below this are the words - Brand Of U.S. Playing Cards. In the center is a spade that looks similar to the one used for the Bicycle deck. I personally think this one looks a little nicer. Below the ace is a banner done in fine, simple lines, on which is the trade mark number. Below the banner are the words - The United States Playing Card Company, also done in an Old West-style font. Below that reads, CINCINNATI, U.S.A. At the bottom is the code that indicates when this deck was made.
The two Jokers are identical, and depict a cowboy wearing a wide-brimmed hat and with a rifle at his back, riding a horse. In front of the figure, covering the bottom of the figure and the horse, is a circle bordered by a wreath. In the center of the circle is a star with '45. Over this is the loop of a lariat, the length of which is draped around the circle. Lines on either side are indicative of grass. At the upper left and lower right-hand corners are an overlapping U and S.
I would highly recommend this deck for collectors and card players, especially those interested in the Old West.
