Du bon Rise Against !! Rien de révolutionnaire à la première écoute (dans la lignée des précédents) mais j'apprécie de plus en plus cet album au fur et à mesure des écoutes......

HASH(0x92187dc8) étoiles sur 5 Not a bad album, but too long, and lacking variety 22 juillet 2014
Par Jen - Publié sur Amazon.com
EDITED INTRO: I respect Rise Against to no end. 13 years ago, I was fortunate enough to see them for the first time at the record release show for The Unraveling in Chicago. At that show, Rise Against instantly became one of my favorite bands. Over the last 13 years, I've maintained my love for the band. Sure, I don't care for a song here and there, but the words "they suck", or "**** them" have NEVER come out of my mouth... or fingers.
This band put their time in with previous endeavors (88 Fingers Louie, Baxter, The Honor System, etc.), and they've earned their popularity. Their honest dudes, and deserve respect.

Now, onto the original review I submitted yesterday:

Three years ago I wrote a review of Endgame, stating that, while a good album, it fell flat compared to the band's other five releases.

The Black Market can't fall flat, because it never even gets off of the ground.
Endgame has definitely warmed up to me a bit more, but is still just an "Ok" album. At least the first handful of tracks on Endgame were pretty ace before the album dropped down to mediocre levels.

The first song on The Black Market, "The Great Die-Off", is decent, and that was a huge red flag. No other album opener from Rise Against has been "decent". "Alive and Well", "Black Masks and Gasoline", "State of the Union", "Chamber the Cartridge", "Collapse", and "Architects" are all raging, angst-filled, totally kick-a** songs that get you excited for what's to follow. "The Great Die-Off" doesn't come close at all.

First single "I Don't Wanna Be Here Anymore" is actually the best song on the album.
Second single (or song that we got to preview before the album's release), "The Eco-Terrorist In Me", got me REALLY excited the first time I heard it. "Oh, wow... there's finally going to be faster songs with Tim screaming like the old days!". This song is actually a punch in the crotch. It's a good song, don't get me wrong, but the band proved they could still write fast, Tim could scream, etc., but it doesn't even hold up that way for the entire song. It's just a tease.

I've listened to the album about a dozen times (I want to make sure I've heard something enough before I judge, especially for a band I've been a big fan of for 13 years), and something I noticed today while listening was "This song should end right here". Most of these songs are just way too long. After about 2 and a half minutes (for most of the songs), the track sounds like it should be ending, but when I look at the time on my ipod, there's still 2 minutes left. I caught myself doing that for many songs today. They're just way too drawn out, and for no real reason.

By no means is this a bad album at all... but it's, hands-down, the band's worst. It just never gets off the ground. It's not exciting. There's no real angst to be heard. The songs are too long, and the music isn't every impressive.
On a positive note to that, I don't think a single song is "bad", but none of them come close to anything from their previous six full-lengths, nor their long list of b-sides.

Maybe if I step away from it for a while, and put it back on in a few months / years, I'll hear something new that can grab me.
But right now this album will be collecting proverbial-dust.

HASH(0x921881ec) étoiles sur 5 This band can't seem to do any wrong anymore. 5 décembre 2014

I can't believe these guys are so consistently fantastic. Nearly every song on this album is amazing which seems to be the halmark of Rise Against, their music gets better with each album unlike some other bands that wont be named even with their meteoric rise in a hybrid like fashion until their fall in December(ha, hints).

Honestly though, this was a really great album and I'd highly recommend it if you're a fan of Rise Against. If you're not familar with their work Amazon's preview feature is fantastic, I'd recommend this and the last two albums by them, the stuff before that wasn't as enjoyable, for me at least.

HASH(0x92188114) étoiles sur 5 Better than the last two. (3.5/5) 15 juillet 2014
Par T. Jones - Publié sur Amazon.com

This is far more enjoyable than "Endgame" and "Appeal to Reason", but isn't quite as good as their first four albums. The energy and urgency of their older material has made a slight return and this album has a quicker pace than the last two, but there are still a few problems with it. The song "Methadone" is indicative of every problem ATP and "Endgame" had - it's bland, it's boring, it's a little directionless. "Sudden Life" sounds like a Foo Fighters b-side. The chorus to "The Black Market" sounds like it was just thrown in there and it doesn't flow properly with the rest of the track.

As for positives, songs like "Eco", "The Great Die-Off", "A Beautiful Indifference", and "Zero Visibility" are quite energetic and fun tracks. I could easily see any of those inciting a circle pit if played live, and hopefully on this upcoming tour they will be included in their setlists. We have also seen the return of Tim McIlrath's hardcore-style screaming ("Eco") and he just sounds better on this album in general. "People Live Here" is a great soft/acoustic track with sad and thought-provoking lyricism.

Overall, it's not their best. Do NOT expect another "Revolutions Per Minute" or "Siren Song of the Counter Culture", because that's not what you're going to get. However, what you will get is a pretty solid, enjoyable rock album with some speed-driven Bad Religion-esque punk rock interwoven into it. It has its faults, but its strengths make up for this. People that enjoy the last two albums will likely love it and I'd certainly recommend it to them, and people that fell away a few years ago might find that they like it better than their last couple of releases and should give it a shot.

Honestly if you haven't purchased all of Rise Against albums then you are short changing yourself. Best band ever hands down. If you get an opportunity to see them live sell you kidney if you have to. You cannot miss this band. They put on killer shows. If you are considering this cd I would say it's a great buy. If you don't own any of their albums buy any of them and you will be happy.

No Rise Against album is a surprise. It starts great and gets better with every new release. The Black Market doesn't take a breath, and pounds you with marching anthems that make you want to find some cause to inject with all the passion you feel from every track.
