Présentation de l'éditeur

  • A stellar assymbly of many of today's most creative and accomplished storytellers has gathered around the tribal fire to embroider well-worn yarns with new golden thread. Black Swan, White Raven revisits the tales that charmed, enthralled, and terrified us in our early youth — carrying us aloft into the healthy, beating heart of cherished myth to tell once again the stories of Rumpelstiltskins and sleeping beauties, only this time from an edgy, provocative and distinctly adult perspective. The themes and archetypes of our beloved childhood fiction are reexamined in a darker light by 21 superb teller of tales who deftly uncover the ironic, the outrageous, the enigmatic and the erotic at the core of the world's best-known fables, while revealing the sobering truths and lies behind "happily ever after."

4.0 étoiles sur 5 A very enjoyable anthology 15 novembre 2016

I got this anthology because I love all things Anne Bishop and she has a story in here. I found it a mixed bag, but on the whole I enjoyed most of the stories. This anthology is a retelling of classic and old fairy tales, some by well-known authors like Jane Yolen and Joyce Carol Oates and others I didn't know.
Anne Bishop's Rapunzel retelling is a favorite, told in multiple POVs. I also liked Michael Cadman's The Flounder's Kiss, On Lickerish Hill by Susanna Clarke, True Thomas by Bruce Glassco, and Godmother Death by Jane Yolen.
Many of these stories are dark though, in truth, most fairy tales are also dark and full of monsters, murder, and mayhem. I'm sure other readers would like ones that I didn't care for; there's really something for everyone here to enjoy.

I had the paperback of this but don't have room so I am converting to mostly ebooks. Loved.this colection of very unique and often unusual takes on fairy tales.

This is a well-curated anthology of short stories. The stories in here are all well-written and well-chosen, and they're a delight to read. I've always been a fan of 'adult' retellings of fairy tales, and this provides a lot of great quality ones. Most are short enough to read in short bursts.

The kindle formatting can be a little difficult sometimes; when the story shifts from one character's perspective to another, there's no line breaks to denote a change, so sometimes it can be a little hard to follow immediately. This is purely a formatting issue, though, and doesn't detract from the quality of the stories themselves.

Very nice work of the editor. There is something for everyone, different styles, different stories, even poetry. Which is it's only logical drawback - one can't please everyone. I believe most people will find most of the stories entertaining and interesting. Some of them are real pearls. Worth the money.

Several of the stories in this collection are really interesting takes on well-known fairy tales, and there's a nice little note from the editors before each one if the reader is interested in information about the background/inspiration for each story. Only a couple of the stories were meh.
