Présentation de l'éditeur

Praise for Blackout:

‘In many years of writing book reviews, I have only on half a dozen occasions given a novel 5 Stars. To give 5 stars, I have always believed the book should be unbeatable in its subject. Blackout is one of these’

‘Seriously good thriller’

‘Yet again Tom Barber has written a brilliant thriller centered around Sam Archer; this is the third in the series that I've read & I think the best so far’

‘Just brilliant, and to find a new thriller writer that I love is very exciting’

‘Having now discovered Tom Barber I am really hooked on his Sam Archer novels. They are the best books I have read for a long time’

‘This makes the third book in the Sam Archer series that I've now read and
the third is as brilliant as the first. Great twists and turns, unexpected
outcomes to situations and generally an amazing novel’

Young counter-terrorist cop Sam Archer arrives for work at the Armed Response Unit expecting a quiet day.

But unbeknownst to him, a storm is coming.

Three men have already been killed that morning. One committed suicide by the River Thames. Another was strangled in his car in Washington D.C. And the third was shot in the face in his high-rise New York apartment as he slept. The deaths seem random, thousands of miles apart. But they are all connected. By a shocking event fifteen years ago.

And this is only the beginning.

Archer, Chalky and the rest of the Unit suddenly find themselves plunged into a ferocious and violent confrontation, fighting for their lives. The enemy they are up against are brutal, highly trained, well-armed and anonymous. No one knows where they have come from. No one seems to know who they are.

But they have a vendetta. They will never forgive or forget, or show mercy.

And for some reason, they’re hell-bent on killing ten specific people before the end of the day.

As the Unit tries to find out who these killers are and locate the remaining targets so they can protect them, it becomes a race against time to see who can get there first. As the counter-terrorist unit and the vengeful enemy come up against each other all over the city, Archer and the team soon realise two things.

This enemy is more proficient and deadly than any they've ever encountered.

And one of their own ARU men is on the extermination list.

HASH(0x8ed343e4) étoiles sur 5 Good story, but.... 16 février 2013

Here's the reason I didn't give it a 4 star.
I loved the story line, but the flow was so hampered by tedious details that really not contributed anything to the story.
Example 1 (not verbatim):
He got his key out of his pocket, slid the key in the keyhole, turned the key and opened the door, then walked inside.
2. He picked up the remote control and pressed the 'on' button to turn the TV on.
Really - these tedious details are going on through the whole book.
Another thing was the long boring details about just about every weapon that was used in the story.
If you're military or law enforcement, you probably know these things anyway. And if you're not - who cares?
A careful editor might have caught these things - and it would have greatly improved the overall flow of the book.
All in all - I did enjoy the story.

The author needs to learn more about firearms though if he's going to write about them. Glocks don't have safeties, the Russian Dragonov was never made in 7.62x39 and he gives the .308 more range than it's really capable of (1000 meters is too far for it).

The work was a little bit repetitive in a couple of spots.

I did like the work, and will be getting more of his writing to read as the small issues above are things that are easy to correct.

HASH(0x8f5ba570) étoiles sur 5 Sam Archer and the ARU battle "Wulf" and the "Black Panthers" no holes barred ! 27 août 2014

This explosive super action packed thriller is a wild ride from the very first page right on through to the last page. "Blackout" by Tom Barber is the third book from the Sam Archer series. The first two books were fantastic, and this one is no exception. Following the suicide of a well respected politician, a series of grisly murders in the UK as well as the USA explode. Sam Archer and the rest of the Armed Response unit (ARU) need to get to the bottom of these crimes. What they find out is pure hell coming back from the past to chase Tim Cobb, leader of the ARU. Also in peril is CIA operations officer, Ryan Jackson. Terrorists formerly of the KLA in Kosovo are carrying out a special hit list. "Wulf" the leader of the "Black Panthers" is on a mission of revenge, and will not be stopped. Story line is just fantastic. It just non stop action and high energy drama. Well researched from the Albanian, Serbian wars of the 90's you can feel the terror jump out of the book. The bad guy characters are very well defined and developed to such scary adversaries for the ARU. All the regulars are back in the ARU from previous two books. So, the team is complete and easy to root for. I had a hard time putting this one down. first time I sat down to read it, I read over 50 % (400 page book). Had to just keep going ! Author Tom Barber has a real winner with this series. I cannot recommend it highly enough. 5 stars out of a possible 5 stars. First three books in this series have been excellent. Can't wait to keep on going into the next adventure. Do not miss this series ! It's super charged action packed adventure fun.

Crafted in a way it had me hooked from the beginning. Violence was involved because of the nature of the story but in a sensitive manner which not reduce it from a five star rating. I have read the previous two stories of Mr. Archer and I'll go for the remaining as soon as I catch my breath. Very well done.

Barber did it again. I read this book over several breaks, picking it up and putting it down often, despite not wanting to. The action scenes are well-written, and as the suspense built more and more, I spent more time biting my nails, rooting for our heroes. The book's shorter, but that's the way most thrillers are. It isn't needlessly verbose, nor pretentious. It's a page-turner plain and simple.

For three bucks, you can't go wrong.

If you loved Tom Clancy's thrillers, you'll love this: it's a lean-mean thriller machine, cut to the bare essentials. With big explosions, and with a world in danger, it's up to-
