5.0 étoiles sur 5 Great Suspense! 13 septembre 2011

In reading other comments by reviewers, I realized I must not be that smart because I didn't find this book predictable. In hindsight, I see it, but I was reading it so fast, that I guess I didn't think about it at the time. I found it to be very suspenseful and a great read. I thought the writing was very good even though there were typos which should shame the editor/publisher. Despite that, I would have paid the original price and been very happy with the purchase -- for $.99, you can't beat it. I just purchased "Mortal Pursuit" by Michael Prescott and hope it's half as good (also $.99).

Twins Erin and Annie Reilly share a history marked by tragedy. Erin, a therapist, is a tall, cool, intellectual while petitie Annie is a creative, ebullient spirit who owns a flower shop. Soon they will share the ultimate horror and betrayal as a serial killer abducts Erin from her upscale Tuscon apartment. The kidnapper is fascinated with fire and has captured women before, bruning them alive. While only Annie believes her sister has been abducted, the ties between the killer and the twins is revealed.

This is a fast paced, exciting read. Although it is somewhat dated, it is a taut thriller. The killer is a bit more complex than the usual lunkish brute. He is torn between a desire for redemption and his urge to torture and kill. The law enforcement characters have very little to do and the author wisely avoided letting the Annie/Detective Walker attraction devolve into a tawdry romance. While there are some inconsistencies and technological anachronisms, this novel requires less suspension of belief than the average tv show and is far more engrossing. Good fun for under a dollar.

This book was absolutely fantastic! I can't believe that I was lucky enough to get it for 99¢! Somehow you don't expect much for this amount of money, but this was an exceptional novel. My heart was racing during the chase scenes and I felt like I was being chased. I hated to put the book down and was regretting having to go to work! Forget TV, I was more engrossed in this book than any TV program could ever do.

Erin, one of the main characters of the book, although put in many, many difficult situations, kept her cool and used whatever was at her access to try to escape from the maniac who had kidnapped her. The authors words made you feel as though you were going through what she was. Her twin sister desparately tried to find her and was turned away by the police for not having any cause for a search. They just felt that she was paranoid about her sister leaving without a proper goodbye. Filled with immense perserverance, she continued to try to locate her sister without the benefit of anyone else to assist her. Stumbling on obscure clues, she kept her head and thought everything through as thoroughly as her sister who she had always held up as her hero and protector. Now it was her turn to help her sister and nothing would stop her!

This book is filled with excitement, twists and turns and some really major surprises as the story unwinds. I ordered all the rest of his books after finishing this one and can only hope that the rest are at least half as good as this one. If you like a fast paced book, this is definitely one you don't want to miss out on.

After buying a Droid 3, I decided to try it as a Kindle book reader. Not wanting to spend a lot of money just to test the phone for reading books, I selected Blind Pursuit for $0.99 as a test read. Imagine my surprise when I found myself flying through the book, eager to see what new twist and turn the author had created for us. I loved it, even with the outdated technology references to "pay phones." Clearly this was written prior to the cellular age, as there were many scenes in which the character in this day and age would simply have hauled out a cell phone and made a call. Other than that slight distraction the book was a terrific fast read. Nice work!!!!!!

I bought this book on the cheap over a year ago and let it sit on my Kindle. It's written by Michael Prescott under the pen name Brian Harper...originally in 1996.

Bottom line: very enjoyable read! The plot has an incredible amount of twists and turns in it...dizzying. This makes it impossible to put down even though I personally find the subject of a sadistic kidnapping repugnant. It's almost like watching Criminal Minds on TV; often the plot is so repulsive that I don't want to watch the show, but the writing has proven so captivating that I get pulled in anyway.

Sure there was the disjointed transition of the dependent character Annie from running to the police repeatedly with flimsy suspicions only to be rejected to her having extremely viable information and deciding to not go to the police (who is an implied love interest)...she'll track the bad guy herself. And the portrayal of the two cops investigating Erin's crash after her short term escape as backwoods bunglers just was impossible to accept.

That aside, the bottom line here is that the main protagonist and the antagonist are incredibly well developed and the pace is frenetic...in a good way! This isn't a who-dunnit; it is a why-dunnit and that my friends you won't get until the end.
