Revue de presse

"Bonsai books abound, but [this] may convince me to try again. It combines aesthetic appreciation with lucid practical advice, along with helpful drawings. Prescott deals with almost every facet of the art-from the proper tools, to watering, feeding, root pruning, soil types, pots and branch wiring-in a way that is truly encouraging." --"Washington Post Book World" --Ce texte fait référence à l'édition Broché .

Présentation de l'éditeur

The exquisite art of bonsai is beautifully demonstrated in this authoritative, practical handbook, which takes the reader from a first foray into the world of miniature trees to a level of considerable expertise. The book, now made available again in paperback, covers both indoor and outdoor varieties and is full of practical information about cultivation, propagation and pruning. It is a guide both for newcomers to the art and for bonsai gardeners with some knowledge of the subject. The handbook describes, with clear text and step-by-step artworks and finely detailed photographs, the anatomy and the art of this classic hobby. It describes the rules - and also how they can be broken. It will enable beginners to start up their own bonsai collection, whether of home-grown or bought trees, and to keep their bonsai healthy and in good shape. It will answer questions for those who already have some experience with bonsai. All the tools and the skills needed are described, a photographic compendium displays the top 24 species, both outdoor and indoor. --Ce texte fait référence à l'édition Broché .

HASH(0x8add8678) étoiles sur 5 Classical Treatment of a Classical Art 13 mars 2002
Par Michael T. Loos - Publié sur Amazon.com

David Prescott's treatment of bonsai is highly recommended. The Bonsai Handbook is a fine example of how bonsai should be presented. It depicts both young trees and fine specimens. It makes bonsai approachable to the beginner as well as creates intrigue for the advanced collector. The plates are clear and finely photographed. Illustrations are well executed and helpful. The text is well written, although, at times, a bit complex. The author thoroughly descibes the art, science, and technique. He includes excellent information concerning tools, pots and general horticultural practices. As a bonsai artist and horticultural botanist, I find this book to be a great value and superior to many bonsai books presently in-print.
I question only minor elements: the use of cut-paste on pruning wounds. One photograph (p.104)is mislabeled (Larix larcina should be Thuja occidentalis).

HASH(0x8add86cc) étoiles sur 5 Good book & good value 29 août 2009

This book does a good job of explaining the basics of bonsai. It is well written and complete with excellent illustrations. It is matter of fact and avoids mystical advice. It is an excellent value; the binding and pages are durable and attractive. I chose it over other books under $20 to give to students in a class on bonsai basics that I taught recently. The members of the class liked the book also.

HASH(0x8add8b04) étoiles sur 5 Great, but not complete 18 mars 2012
Par ASumnicht - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché Achat vérifié
Pros: Detailed and eloquent descriptions of every facet of bonsai care for the beginner bonsai enthusiast. Lots of wonderful pictures to illustrate examples.

Cons: The book lacked description in such techniques as air layering and creating new branches. Though it did talk about them, these sections were not very clear. But that's just me being picky and a beginner.

Other thoughts: I've already read through this book twice and learned so much! The few gaps that the book has can be overlooked, as the information that the book does offer and helpful illustrations are encouraging to the beginner bonsai botanist!

Had a lot of info and went more in depth then most other books. Has a section on specific bonsai species on how to take care of them but does not list very many different ones. Does not list the Brazilian rain tree that I have
HASH(0x8add8eb8) étoiles sur 5 I would recommend this book 27 février 2016

I would recommend this book. I have read better ones, but still there is a lot of valuable information here. One thing I would have liked to have seen is more full colored photos of bonsai and what was done to them to show how they where changed into the final result. In other words more before and after.
