Love it, love it, love it!

I've honestly had this book for awhile and am now regretting that I put it in the tbr list. I am caught, hook, line and sinker on the Carpe Diem Chronicles! Blake and Krista are utterly adorable! They are now on my list of favorite couples of all-time!

I love how Maida has shown a lot of the beautiful things that makes the Filipinos who they are while also showing that we are far from a perfect race. Can't wait for the wedding and Maddie's story!

In "Boracay Vows" you get destination travel along with a sweet and spicy romance. Are you ready to take a vacation and visit the island of Boracay in the Philippines? Well I hope so. It's a wonderful place to go to just relax and think about the future.

Between the pages of this fun romance we have Krista Lopez and Blake Ryan. Krista is a local to the Philippines and Blake is a transplant. Blake and Krista work at the same company and have vastly different places in the hierarchy. Krista has been lusting after Blake for some time, but knows there isn't a chance at a future with him. Her mother wouldn't approve of her being with an American and Blake is just unobtainable. I really loved both Krista and Blake. Neither one got on my nerves. Yay!

Krista is on the island as she's turning 30. Her friends have hooked her up with a vacation and it's her job to do something that will change her life during this period of change. Her friends are wonderful and I expect we will see them all in future books. One of the group died very early with regrets that she didn't do more. Now the girls have banded together in their friends memory to make sure they don't make the same mistake. Near their 30th birthday they have to do something life changing. Oh my, Krista really takes up the challenge.

I loved how author Maida Malby brought the location and their relationship to life. Readers get a beautiful experience between the pages of "Boracay Vows". I highly recommend this book to contemporary romance readers who are ready to take an armchair travel adventure.

Last but not least, the food. Thought this book you get introduced to island specialties from the Philippines. And oh my, you will be dreaming of trying some of the dishes yourself. Yummy!

Carpe Diem, indeed!

Goodness gracious when can I get a ticket to Boracay? This story has provided quite an education around a culture that I should know more about considering that my aunt is originally from the Philippines.

NBSB = No Boyfriend Since Birth, imagine that at nearly 30 years old! In a sense, Krista Lopez is facing a universal dilemma. Born a child of mixed heritage in an essentially homogeneous culture. Coupled with foreign tallness and adolescent obesity with its attendant perils makes for an all too real scenario. Having outgrown her adolescent awkwardness and emerged as a swan unbeknownst to herself, Krista decides to take the leap and seize the day in memory of a friend who will never be able to do it again.

Blake Ryan is a girl's dream come true. I love that I could totally picture all of the characters due to Maida Malby's very vivid descriptions. Henry Cavil, Tom Hiddleston, oh my! Fine as wine, athletic, gorgeous, smart, commanding, heart stoppingly handsome, considerate, beautiful... did I mention that the man is good looking and Malby compared him to Henry Cavil? No? The man is fine!

Maida Malby's playful wit shines through along with her intimate knowledge of local cuisine and culture. This work is interspersed with definitions, local phrases, customs and mores in such a natural and conversational fashion that this reader was transported and carried along with the protagonists on their developing relationship journey. I loved it and I simply cannot wait for Krista and Blake's next steps in their HEA!

This fun contemporary romance takes place in the Philippines between Krista and Blake. Blake is technically Krista's boss but they fall for each other anyway at a beautiful resort in Boracay. I didn't love that there was a boss/subordinate relationship; however, I found the fact the characters were aware of potential real world problems as boss/subordinate helped. Malby introduces Filipino culture, language and food throughout, giving the setting great authenticity and interest. The possible and actual cultural hurdles that exist between Blake and Krista are not ignored, but are well woven into the story. I liked how Krista spoke up for herself throughout. She may have been hiding herself before, but she's no door mat. Blake was presented as a confident man without falling into complete jerk alpha-male territory, making him a much more realistic and likable character. Even when one or two other little things didn't work for me, Krista and Blake did work and I enjoyed the journey to their HEA. I'm just sorry we can't all go vacation at Perlas. Pack this one in your beach bag for your own vacation and enjoy.
