Présentation de l'éditeur

The world has changed.
The buildings have fallen, blown away with the winds made hot from the bombs.
The roads crumble as the forest takes back the land we stole a long time ago.
It's only been ten years since the end but it feels like a hundred for Emma who has been alone since the beginning, surviving on the skills her crazy father forced on her.
Trust no one.
Pull the trigger.
Hide.
Run.
Stay away from the other survivors
Stay away from The Infected.
She has obeyed his rules since she can remember running from the car accident that claimed his life.
But one night that all changes.
The knock at her cabin door and voice of the girl on the other side don't make Emma help the girl.
No.
It's the fact the girl, Anna, is willing to die to save her wounded brother that changes everything in Emma's world.
She finds friends and family in Anna and her brother Jake.
She feels things she thought she never would.
But like her Granny always said, 'Everything comes at a cost. You must decide what you are willing to pay.'
For Emma that decision comes as Anna is stolen and taken to the breeder farms.
Emma knows she will pay anything to get Anna back, including her own life.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 a pleasant surprise. 1 février 2016

The born series is the primary example of why, when it comes to dystopia, I prefer indie authors. There’s no fear to be political incorrect. Although this is a YA book there’s an acknowledgment that once the apocalypses is here nothing will play in the way we think. Leaders, Military men, survivors, the rebels perhaps even the heroine. Everyone will push the boundaries of consent, of morality, they’ll test the limits of humanity and survival. And indie authors are not afraid of pushing the boundaries of PG 13 ratings, challenged books, angry parents and agents. They speak with honest voices. That’s what I feel the author did here and I can’t say I’m disappointed.
This is a fast read that won’t disappoint readers. It’s action-packed and the journey is compelling. Is this book perfect? No, what book is? Yet, the story had enough surprises to compensate for little things here and there that a nitpicky grown man like myself might find in YA literature. Those little things certainly will not be noticed by the target audience and the mature YA reader who is willing to open their mind to enjoy new authors. This book is a completely fun journey, unpretentious and quite engaging.
Meet Emma. A 19 YO survivor that in the line of most YA dystopias is a strong heroine who is not waiting to be rescued by a man. Who is she supposed to trust? She has fared better on her own. She’ll have a romance with Will that won’t demerit the pace or dark themes of the book.
I love how there are mentions of things like rape. Most dystopian books should make mention of this, as we know that once hell break loose civilization as we know it and our moral codes get challenge. I also love how Emma recognizes how working with other people will enhance her chances of survival.
If you are tired of political correct YA, give a chance to this book. I’m not saying it’s not suited for the younger readers, just that mature readers might find things to like here as this book doesn’t downplay the violence and realism of its futuristic setting.
The ending left me craving for more. I’m downloading the other books of the series and I just hope the author keeps her voice as strong and honest as she did in this novel. This was for me a pleasant surprise.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 (laughs) That ladies and gents is a bad ass wolf 14 août 2014

Well damn... there are many things to say about this book. It did take me a few chapters to actually get into the book. It moves a bit slower than what I am used to but.. with that being said once it got my full attention it was all in. Emma is one kick ass nineteen year old. And hello.. she has a pet wolf. (laughs) That ladies and gents is a bad ass wolf. Emma and Leo on their own was okay but she seems to come alive, no pun intended, when Anna and Jake are thrust into her by an accident. Things could have gone many ways but as usual Emma seems to get herself into sticky situations, though they are not her fault. She hates it but she grows into her role as a friend and then it happens.. Love.. it's a fickle little thing.

Emma is a strong girl, hardheaded and very outspoken. My kinda girl. When she meets Meg and yet again saves another person she seems to open up a bit more. She is like a flower that is in need of some sun. Then she meets Will.. and lord help the girl her hormones go into over drive. Though I can't blame her. When you have been raising yourself in the woods, no human contact since you were 9 its to be expected. The reunion of the family.. Will and Jake was sweet. Even if it leads to danger.

Once Emma is taken and tries to rescue Anna we meet little Sarah. They make it out and just when you think its all going to calm down........ Emma goes all Robin Hood on their asses and the road to salvation is going to be harder than she thought.

This is a great story idea. It reminds me of a mixture of Resident Evil, The Hunger Games and The Walking Dead... so its defo on my top lists of things I will re-read later!!

4.0 étoiles sur 5 I really liked all these books and recommend them! 23 septembre 2016

I really liked this book! It had my interested from the begining and kept me it till the end. And then I immediately bought the next one. The protagonist was a little over the top with bravado & could be pretty frustrating at times. And they did end up in some rediculously dangerous situations where there was little to no chance of actual survival. But they do that in movies all the time to. And at least in this book they get hurt "alot". Most action movies they walk thru walls of bullets and never get so much as a graze. So that actually made it a lot more believable for me. You will love the characters. She writes them in a way that allows the reader to become close to them. You will find you self smile when the do or cry when they do. That is vital to writing a book like this. The only real criticism I have is the protagonist did get on my nerves a little. I mean she is suppose to be a superior survivalist above all else. And I don't know about u but to me that mean a person who is smart. Can think on their feet and has sound judgement. A quick learner and rarely makes the same mistake twice. This would not be how I would describe her at all. She was rash and made life threatening dicisions at the drop of a hat for no other reason than she was having a temper tantrum. Which the story does exsplain a temper issue. But I couldn't help feel like if she was even half the survivor they made her out to be. She should have figured out that regardless of who she was mad at or upset with that was not the way to go! I would have liked for her to have been smarter in that respect. And having the exact same mistrust and reaction to it with the love intrest over & over again became quite annoying as well. I understand she is young and I am sure that was what the author was trying to remind us of. But it was a little to repetitive for me. So 4 stars instead of 5. And with that said I still loved these books and highly recommend them. And I say books because at this point I have read all 3 books and the alternative ending as well. And they are all worth it and I do recommend them all!!!!

Emma Emma Emma... tsk tsk. I really did love this heroine. She just amazed me with her brutal honesty and trying to protect everyone around her, even if it cost her her life while attempting to do it.

She is alone for 10 years well, almost alone... she has Leo to help protect her. Until she feels the need to help out a young woman by the name Anna and her brother Jake. I liked Jake a lot, I'm hopping he will win her over. Then they form a bond and set off in search of helping each other survive. Only for the negative to pull her down under she meets Meg and along the way Will and a small girl named Sarah.

Her journey is tough and she is bound to endure it for as long as she can handle... that is where the cliffhanger comes into play and we guessed it but hoped against it...

Can't wait to get into book 2. I do want to throw caution to the wind. This is not the best ideal read for anyone under 18. It has sex scenes and is sexist. It's not at all what I thought it was going to be but I didn't read the synopsis beforehand just jumped right into it when a friend said she was reading a Zombie book. Had I personally known what this was actually about I wouldn't have EVER read it. So be advised and prepared for a sick journey.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A fantastic, well written story! 23 juin 2013

I am not much of a sci-fi/dystopian type reader. But everyone has told me I need to read this book. They said I would love it. I am SO glad I was peer-pressured into this one because I absolutely loved it!!!

I loved the characters in the book, each in their own way. I love how strong Emma is - she is a great heroine, not one to take crap from others and knows how to take care of herself. She is slowly learning how to let others care for her and help her but not to the point where she is becoming a weak, damsel in distress type if girl. Jake is my favorite, he is sweet, kind, funny, and is a "just enjoy life" type of guy. I love him!!! Will is the strong alpha type of guy but dude has issues. He needs to get over them. Leo is the other main guy in Emma's life and I love him as much as Jake! He's Emma's best friend and protector. I want my own Leo! I mean who doesn't want a huge, cute, loyal timber wolf by your side?! Anna is another great character...she is just as strong as Emma and I love her for it.

This book was so difficult to stop reading, I was always on the edge of my seat wanting to know what happens next!! What I've come to realize as typical when reading Tara Brown books...every time I think I know what will happen she goes and messes all my thoughts up. I love it!!

I am going to dive right into the next book in this series now. Thank goodness it's already out, that was one heck of a cliffhanger!!

By the way, if the world gets destroyed and we need to start over, I'm going where ever Tara goes since apparently she will know how to keep us alive.

I highly recommend this book to everyone. As was proven to me, it really doesn't matter what genre of books you normally read...open your mind, read this and you'll be taken for a great ride and beg for more.
