5.0 étoiles sur 5 Really good book 27 octobre 2016

Broken Silence is the sequel to Silence by Natasha Preston. It is an exceptional book that deals with a very sensitive subject- child abuse. She deals with it in a way that makes you view it from the eyes of the abused and the families. The acts themselves are referred to but not dwelt upon. The emotions are what are important.
Oakley and her brother and mother had left the UK for Australia after the arrest of Oakley’s father for child abuse. Oakley had been abused when she was five until she was thirteen. From the age of five until the age of sixteen, she had not spoken after her father told her it would kill her mother. Five-year-old Oakley took those words literally. At the age of sixteen, she had been exposed to her abuser again but fled, called her boyfriend, and went to the police. Now her father’s trial was coming up and although she had been offered video tape testimony, Oakley felt she needed to testify in person so they were returning to the UK. Now, Oakley would have to face her father but also face the man she loved who she had left behind.
Cole had no idea Oakley was returning. The Internet at his parent’s house was out so his mother didn’t get the email alerting them to their return. He had been totally miserable since Oakley had left. He thought they were totally in love, at least he was. He had been protecting Oakley since she was five from those who would tease her. They had grown up living next door since they were born. Somewhere along the line, he had fallen totally in love with Oakley but she had left him behind. What was he going to do now?
How would Oakley deal with the trial and seeing her father for the first time in four years? Would Cole put aside his hurt and stick beside her again? Would he still be in love with Oakley? What would happen when she decided to return to Australia?

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Hopeful Approach to a Tragic Story 19 février 2016

The second in a series where we witness a girl coping with sexual abuse in her past. I found it to be an uplifting continuation of her story that leads to empowerment and hope to her as well as the other characters affected by events that transpired. This story addresses molestation as well as rape and how the abuse of one person can affect the entire family. While I enjoyed the expanded perspective, this can be an emotionally demanding read. However, closure is reached in the end and the book feels like a rewarding read.

I loved this book just as much as I loved the first book. The author did a great job with allowing a 4 year gap in the book so the characters can all grow and change into young adults. She really captured the emotions of the characters well. I can relate to Oakley with having a protective older brother who is actually just like Jasper personality and all. The trial part of the book was heart breaking and emotional. Cole is still perfect in every way. I wish they would turn this series into a movie :) highly of recommended.

This was a really good story. This was my first book by this author, but I am sure I will be reading more . The story flowed well, and the story line was good. Highly recommended.

I liked both books -silence and broken Silence. I think it makes sense, in the plot development. She believed that silence was her only option and so she stuck with it. The shading of the other characters was pretty good, brother Julian was all over the place -like a real person.
Now for the editing and spelling. When are people going to learn that ' are NOT for PLURAL and only for possessive? And authors need to read over the book after using spell checker.
Examples: I hadn’t been so dunk in a while; glitter on her cheeks, and four orange hears on her left cheek.; she’d sat me;“What?” Cole said innocently me innocently,
NOT good
