I read so many reviews on this book when I first decided to do canning. There were many complaints about the information contained in it. Maybe that comes from people who had a starting point of knowledge of canning. From the perspective of someone who knew NOTHING about canning, I found it very comprehensive and a good starting point to learn to can. I followed the instructions and have had great success in the few things I have canned. Beginners - you can purchase with confidence that this book will help. Intermediate and advanced canners - you might not find this book super helpful. I'd suggest reading other reviews from more experienced canners.

Really good book on how to learn canning and preserving.
As always the for dummies series may not have a wonderful name, but it is practical and able to be done step by step.
Great for the beginner to learn the process of preserving and canning.
Comprehensive starting point.
Nicely covers the dangers of contaminated foods
Very well organized and easy to find what you want to look for in the book
Includes information on on freezing, drying, pickling, juicing in addition to canning.
Easy to understand and follow

Very impressed, but I should have known! The Dummies books are always so easy to understand, written in laymans terms. This one I found very extensive in educating a newbie to canning such as myself. I have other books but they seem to be vague and focus more on recipes.

Brand new to canning and preserving so I figured this would be the best way to start as other books assumed I knew the 'lingo'. I don't. Well, I didn't, until I purchased this book. It's really fun to read and has tips throughout. It's been an excellent resource for me, the beginner.

This is a very good book for people just starting out in Canning like me. It explains the process in terms that the normal person can understand without having a masters degree. I recommend this book for any person that is intersted in getting back to the basics your grand parents lived by.
