Présentation de l'éditeur

Before Cameron Kincaid was a New York Chef, he was an elite covert Légionnaire.
Skills good to have. Because a coveted prize has surfaced in New York and drawn Cameron into an 800-year-old war.
In 1208 the clandestine Rex Mundi began the Albigensian crusade in an effort to gain control of the treasure held by the Cathar. For thirty-six years the Languedoc region south of France was washed in blood. By 1244 the last of the Cathari were eradicated when the Château de Montségur finally fell. Though the Rex Mundi searched everywhere, the Cathari Treasure remained elusive.
After thwarting assassins in the library of his restaurant Le Dragon Vert Cameron, a suave former Legionnaire, vows to escort a young woman and her guardian to safety. Cameron learns from the two the secret Cathari faith and of the Rex Mundi that believe the women are key to the long sought Cathari Treasure.
Relentlessly pursued from the Le Dragon Vert in New York, through the streets of Boston, Montreal, Toronto, and Quebec, Cameron tires of fleeing. The Rex Mundi will ultimately wipe out the Cathari to get the treasure unless Cameron takes the battle to them, a confrontation to seal his fate or ensure the survival of the two women and a faith he does not fully understand.

THE CATHARI TREASURE is an adventure thriller that features the Cathar and the Rex Mundi, two groups from the pages of history and mystery now gaining global popularity.

I have to admit, I wasn't expecting a lot out of this book, being an early work from a new author, but I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it! A friend recommended I check this out, and it took me a while, but I'm glad I did. It's a relatively quick read, though that's partly because of the fast pace of action in the book. The main character, Cameron Kincaid, is an elite former French Foreign Legionnaire who is now a celebrity chef. Daniel Arthur Smith does an excellent job of making him a likable character, who happens to also be amazingly talented, without dragging down the pacing of the book. You come to find out a decent amount of his background, but with some obviously unexplored depths that make me look forward to future novels. His treatment of the Cathari is quiet interesting, and would be a good introduction to this mysterious sect from Europe's past for those who haven't heard about them. Hopefully, this thread gets picked up again in a future novel at some time, because I'm fascinated with these characters and really want to know what happens with them.

I'm not sure how much of the author's knowledge was from experience and how much was from research, but it felt very authentic. For example, early on in the book Cameron is walking through the kitchen of his restaurant, and makes sure to say "Behind you." to the line cooks as he walked behind them (a survival necessity in a kitchen). That's one of those little details that shows he's either been in or researched heavily life in a commercial kitchen. Same with interesting details about the French Foreign Legion and the Cathari. These details are skillfully woven in to the story without slowing it down.

I very much enjoyed this book and recommend it highly.

A bit disjointed and sometimes long-winded. Interesting characters that have been developed and will no doubt appear in the sequel to this story. Enjoyed the French Foreign legion and cooking connection , but the main story line was a little far fetched. I did read the whole book but not all readers would due to its drawn out rather unbelievable villains.

HASH(0x95934360) étoiles sur 5 Liked it, but the ending? 28 avril 2013

I enjoyed the story. I could visualize the setting. There was, in my opinion, a bit much of "The Da Vinci Code" underpinnings to it. My big complaint is that the ending was inconclusive and abrupt.

I found out about Daniel Arthur Smith through a release party for Mulligan by Hank Garner. I won 3 of Daniel Smith's books. Once I started reading what I won I knew that I needed to buy them for my Kindle Paperwhite because I knew that I would be reading at night while my wife is trying to sleep. Daniel Smith does a great job in grabbing you from the very first page and not letting go until the end. The chapter lengths are perfect to keep you up late reading because hey......one more chapter won't hurt, they aren't that long. You find yourself immersed with the story and feels like you are with the characters. I really really enjoyed this book and cannot wait to start The Somali Deception. Do yourself a favor and pick this up. You and your personal library will thank yourself later.

HASH(0x959346b4) étoiles sur 5 I'm hooked. 29 avril 2015

This was my first book by this author. Usually, I stick to science fiction but every now and then i get the urge for a more compelling thriller like this one.
I was hooked right off the bat. The main character is a chef who also just happens to be an ex-legionnaire. Yeah, I'm in! I don't want to give away any spoilers, but the story was very well paced, the characters had depth, and the ending seemed fitting to me. I enjoyed this book and I bet you will as well.
I will certainly be reading more by this author.
