Présentation de l'éditeur

She was forced to make a new start, but can Maggie handle a new life, new friendships . . . and a new love?

Maggie Locke thinks her life is almost perfect. Living and working on her treasured horse ranch nestled deep in the Montana countryside, she couldn't be happier. But in the blink of an eye, Maggie is hit with a devastating blow that challenges her faith, threatens her home, and changes her life forever. Suddenly, Maggie's "perfect life" is shattered.

Facing the huge challenge of running a ranch on her own, Maggie can only throw herself into her work. At first, the antics of her newborn foal are all that can bring a smile back to Maggie's face. But slowly, she delves deeper into new and old friendships that help her overcome the grief that nearly smothered her spirit. Still, the healing has just begun. And as winter approaches, Maggie discovers another challenge: a decision that will forever change her life--again. When two men start vying for her heart, Maggie must decide if she's already had--and lost--the love of her life, or if it's yet to be.

Format: Broché
Paige Lee Elliston has written many novels and short stories. CHANGES OF HEART reflects her skill as well as her keen understanding of relationships --- relationships not only among friends but also between horse and rider. Woven in and through these relationships is a deep belief and faith in God that binds it all together.

Set on a horse ranch in Coldwater, Montana, the story begins with Maggie and Rich Locke preparing for the birth of their young mare's first colt. It is just before Christmas, and excitement is running higher than usual. As Elliston describes the miracle of birth, on that frigid Montana morning, you can almost smell the barn and hear the sounds of life. Joy runs high as Maggie silently prays: "My cup runneth over, Lord, Thank you for all this."

But before the week is over, tragedy strikes and Maggie's world is shattered. Her greatest fear is realized when Rich's jet goes down while he is testing a new aviation fuel. Her hopes are crushed like the wreckage of his plane, and instead of leaning on her faith and turning to God, she pulls away, separating herself from His comfort. Indirectly she resents God and blames Him for not answering her prayers for Rich's safety.

Though Maggie feels her life is over, the needs of her horses do not come to a stop, so she continues to care for them and receives some solace from her grueling work. Gradually she begins to allow people into her self-imposed isolation: Dan Pulver, friend and veterinarian, was a frequent visitor who had always admired Maggie and now longs to become closer to her; Dr. Sarah Morrison, whose daughter Tessa desperately wants to learn barrel racing despite her handicap; and Ian Lane, the new pastor whose good humor and eagerness to learn about horses is infectious.

Eventually Maggie realizes that God is healing her broken heart through the people who he has placed in her life. And she begins to understand that her new heart is strong enough to hold love again.

CHANGES OF HEART reminds us of the fragility of life and the grace of God that gets us from point A to point B on any given day. Whether you call it a beach book, Chick Lit, light reading or inspirational, CHANGES OF HEART fits the bill.

As an avid Christian Fiction reader I constantly look for books that have intresting story lines with the message of faith mixed in. Going by the covers and summeries of these three books in this series I bought the set thinking they would be great reads. The 1st Changes of Heart was a bit confusing and left much wanting especially in the end. I got lost in the last few chapters wondering if I missed reading a chapter. I felt as though the author skipped a vital part of the book. The storyline started great but did not have much in the way of describing the characters or emotions besides the leading ladies feelings of grief. In all I found the book lacking character description and enough faith concepts.

I liked Maggie - truly I did - at least for most of the book. However, the Danny versus
Ian thing was SO frustrating, unrealistic, and maddening. She chose the wrong guy - no doubt about it.
Danny was introduced on practically the first page - and sees her through thick and thin - with his little soft heart
on his sleeve. Maggie NEEDED Danny. I had a hard time understanding why "Ian" was even introduced at all.

Another thing - her wonderful parents were there for her in the beginning, and were hardly mentioned through the
rest of the book. They should have been the "Sarah and Tessa" of the book, and Tessa should have been an adult,
and competitive to Maggie.

Way too much time spent on the terrible winter storm. Lots more time was given to playing Monopoly during the
storm than to the developing Ian/Maggie whatever it was. Marriage? Guess so - they were wearing matching rings.

I couldn't believe the ending, I, like others,
went back to try to find out what Ian was doing in her bedroom/office. Should have been Danny.

The first few pages of this book held a lot of promise. What a let down. Oh well.....

I have mixed feelings about this book. The beginning started out well - her grief is palpable and felt real to me.
At some point she started to heal a bit, and I felt that as well.

Otherwise though, the supporting characters felt wooden to me, except for Danny Pulver and Tessa, the teenager. Those two were real and I felt like I could relate to them.
It felt to me as if Ian was a minister just because that'd be cool to have a minister in the story. He didn't do anything that a pastor would do, he wasn't described as a real pastor would have acted. A pastor attracted to a woman in his congregation would have had more of an ethical dilemma on his hands than was described here - even as a single man perfectly within his rights to date a woman. So really, I felt like his job was just that, a job that happened to take place in a church. It wasn't real.

The woman is portrayed as working very well in any crisis with the one man, yet no mention of her entering the other man's life's work is made. In reality if a woman were to make the choice she did she would be entering into his life's work more than most other jobs that men have - yet nowhere is it indicated that she even considered that fact.

Which is such a big part of why I was disappointed in the ending.

The author proves to be a good enough writer, yet in the end it's like it became rushed and the ending was forced. I agree with the other reviewer that said her choice didn't seem to make sense at all, since to me the other man was so much more believable and fit her so much better. The other guy seemed more of a distraction. Yet suddenly there they are at the end, married, with no explanation or lead up.

I stayed up late reading into this book, and in the end was very disappointed and felt gipped out of part of the storyline.

The previous reviewer did an excellent job reviewing the book so I will just add that I really enjoyed the book. The Author has woven heartbreak, humor and faith. I loved the interaction between characters in the book. Each added something special. I could understand how Maggie would have a difficult time choosing between Danny and Ian. Both were good men. Both had a lot to offer. The advice she got was to pray and follow her heart. So who does she choose? Danny, the very caring, gentle vet who cares about animals as much as Maggie... or Ian, the very caring pastor who uses lots and humor and who can very much relate to Maggie's situation? Guess you have to read the book.
