5.0 étoiles sur 5 One of the best glam records. 6 novembre 2012

This one is an old favorite and somewhat little known gem. These guys are actually back together and their new album, As It Is on Earth, is out soon. Most people are familiar with the first album and its huge hit but this album is leagues better. This is glamy pop rock done right. Damn near every song is a great addition to the record. Melodies and singing and lyrics are all far above the normal. Mungo City, Almonds Kisses w/Stipe, 2nd Avenue, Skylark, which will have you seeing Beatle vision, and Lucy's Shoe are among the best songs and really damn fine songs in their own right. I would urge people to at least check this underrated album out. It's a throwback to Bowie and T. Rex of old but done in a less crazy and more commercial light akin to some of Bowie's later records. I think it stands the test of time.

This album will get its due...hopefully...as one of the best albums made in the 90's. Like Faith No More's "Angel Dust" is considered now this album is a landmark in craftsmanship. Some music puts you in a mood, and some puts you in a place. This is one of those albums. The first track "One of these days". Do not listen to it if it is snowing out...it will forever embed that vision and feeling in your head whenever you hear it again. It's that encrypting of an album. The songs latch on the things in a bizaar ways, they carry their our mystique. They bring you back but not to times to places and visions. Its a powerful thing to be able to create. Only albums like The Wall, Tommy, etc have been known to do that. For one to come out of a 90's band is bizaar. Spacehog in this CD is like no band you have ever heard. Its very individual.

I've been revisiting this band recently, having a copy of Resident Alien, and obtaining their newest effort from last year, As It Is On Earth. I've yet to find a bad record they've produced. They are a very unique form of Alt Rock and the truth is, it won't be for everyone. However, if you give this band a fair listen and an open mind, they will blow you away. I definitely suggest this record to any fans of the band or of music that breaks boundaries.

Not as good as other music they have put out but one I needed to complete my collection. If you are a fan several cuts are note worthy
5.0 étoiles sur 5 Spacehog go all out on their sophomore effort "The Chinese Album" 30 décembre 2012
Par Perverted Alchemist - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
The British quartet Spacehog was a band who continued on the sound of mid 70's glam rock. Spacehog consisted of two brothers- bassist and lead singer Royston Langdon and his younger brother, guitarist Antony. Rounding out the band is the other guitarist Richard Steel and drummer Jonny Cragg. Although they were classified as an alternative rock band, they had more in common with David Bowie, T. Rex and Queen more than they did with their peers at the time. They released their first album "Resident Alien" in 1995 with their hit song "In The Meantime". While that became their signature song, they wanted to do more. They went in the studio to record an album that became their sophomore effort, the overtly ambitious concept album "The Chinese Album". Joining them for the production of the record is Bryce Goggin- the same person who was behind their debut "Resident Alien".

"The Chinese Album" takes on a myriad of different sounds and styles that takes the band in different directions sonically. The album starts off with the piano driven "One Of These Days"- a song which takes a rather optimistic look on the concept of death. They mourn the death of a seemingly promisicuous woman on the uptempo rocker "Goodbye Violet Race". On the orchestrated ballad "Lucy's Shoe", they sing of a young girl who lost her shoe while playing in the snow (No, seriously!). They sing of running away from a decadent town on the first single "Mungo City", while Antony takes the lead on the brief ballad "Skylark". They mock a former flame on their hurt and pain on "Sand In Your Eyes", while getting assistance from R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe on the song "Almond Kisses". On the song "Carry On", Royston falls in love with a woman despite his skepticisms about her. He pokes fun at himself on the ragtime inspired "Anonymous" and close the album with the song "Beautiful Girl". Overall, Spacehog's "The Chinese Album" was a great album from the band. Unfortunately, the album suffered a great deal due to the changing trends in the alternative rock landscape at the time. This is an album that should not be missed anyone.
