2.0 étoiles sur 5 If you need convincing to be clutterfree, then this might be your book... 31 octobre 2014

I have clutter and I have kids, but I also knew I wanted to change the former! So I was ultimately disappointed when the first third of the book was spent trying to convince me that being clutterfree was a good thing.

Ultimately, I desired more practical advice which this book was sorely lacking. I do strongly recommend Peter Walsh's book, "It's all too much" which I found practical filled with great advice much of which I have implemented.

I really admire minimalists who have 100 items. But with a family, and a house, and a car, that simply isn't practical for me. Joshua understands that there can be a middle ground and provides the framework to develop the best minimalist lifestyle that works for your real life.

This book addresses all the areas I have struggled to keep organized. The answer is to have less to manage. I love that the author is not a naturally OCD clean person and that he has a daughter who is very creative and into art. I kept thinking as I read that this guy 's advice is based on real experience trying to train himself to live clutter free and as a bonus for me he has real experience managing the artwork of his kids. This is a quick read and very practical advice.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 living with less and enjoying life more, focusing on what's truly important in life 26 avril 2014

This book was great. When I told my husband I was reading a book on minimalism he asked if we were going to sell all our stuff and sleep on the floor! So much is misunderstood about minimalism. It's different for everyone. I like that Becker points that out and makes it clear that it is not a one-size-fits-all lifestyle.

This book starts out with the "why's" of minimalism, and forces you to think about what your true values/priorities are.

Then Becker goes into some key areas of "stuff" that we own and gives some easy and practical steps to getting rid of the clutter in that particular area.

The last part is more advice on some specific people or situations that will not apply to everyone (such as bringing a new baby into the home or living on one income).

Overall this book was a great stepping stone for me in evaluating my stuff and will help in giving me tools as I make this journey. We will be moving soon, which I saw as a great opportunity to start this journey, but I'm realizing it's going to take a lot longer to get through it and discover more about my stuff and what it says about who I am and what my values are.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Great perspectives and trains of thought! 3 mars 2017

This was a very easy read / read it in a few sittings. There are a lot of perspectives in here-I especially like his thoughts on not taking too many photos. There is a huge pressure from family& society to "take lots of photos", but we now have too many to sort through or can't find one, and each photo becomes less special. I would like to say I've been minimalist minded for awhile, but this brought to light new areas to focus on.
