HASH(0x8bbdd5dc) étoiles sur 5 A good read and reference 19 novembre 2013

Davies explores the complexity of the style of play based on possession and pressing known as "Tiki Taka."

The section on philosophy development, training, and exercises from various clubs would be valuable for any club director or coach wishing to implement such a style. In addition, the book outlines the historical evolution of the style of play by profiling key managers, teams and players. The discussion of tactics contains some wonderful profiles and examples of teams beyond just F.C. Barcelona.

Davies uses primary and secondary sources to cite recent research to assert his claims. The author also sprinkles tasty quotes throughout, the diagrams are clear and easily understood, and there are some wonderful illustrations of influential managers and players.

Overall this was a pleasure to read as well as a reference I have already returned to several times. Although the book cautions against trying to clone a methodology, I recommend it as a resource to any coach seeking to press and possess.

There is a broad range of content to place the style within context, but the presentation is with enough brevity and focus to remain very interesting.

HASH(0x8bbdd630) étoiles sur 5 THE Reference for Coaching the Tiki Taka Style of Play 28 avril 2014

This has to be the best Soccer Coaching book ever published. It really is fantastic A +++++

The chapters include philosophy, development, training, and practices which come directly from great academies such as Barcelona and Ajax. The book also outlines the historical evolution of the style of play and profiles key managers, teams and players (Michels, Cruyff, Guardiola, Ajax, Barcelona etc). But don't think this book just goes over the obvious influences, as the discussion of tactics contains some wonderful profiles and examples of teams beyond just F.C. Barcelona.

Davies uses primary and secondary sources and there are interesting quotes through the whole book. The diagrams are brilliant and the whole book reads very well.

If you want to learn how to press collectively and maintain possession, this has to be the book for you. It was a pleasure to read and I use it as a reference for my training almost daily. I can't wait for a possible second volume.

Well organized and informative i enjoyed it every time I have read it. Its not one of those " because this is how it has always been done" books. You have to really know your players and they really have to know themselves.
HASH(0x8bbdda50) étoiles sur 5 A great section on tactical solutions which a coach may encounter 17 juin 2016

A quality manual on positional play. The philosophy, the methodology and the important activities which go into building a possession-based style of play are detailed. A great section on tactical solutions which a coach may encounter. A few things to note: 1) Editing could have been better, 2) the author also mentions Guided Discovery for beginners (learners) which is absolute nonsense and should not be included in a manual oriented towards youth coaches (U7-U21). A failed pedagogy should not be included in a manual which is inspired by the latest scientific trends. 3) A sample session plan would go a long way for the beginner coaches. 4) there's some confusion about his definition of creativity and how it comes about, hopefully he will clarify in the next edition. Creativity requires domain-specific mastery and doesn't appear like magic. Creativity for youth players is completely different than what we would consider creativity for adult players. Automatism plays an important part in the process...
This is a highly-recommended book and should be in every quality coach's library. Highly recommended.

There are a lot of coaching materials that try to pass off as comprehensive books, but their really just write-ups crushed out in a few days to earn a buck. This is far from it. It's starts of with explaning player development and insight to why the methods discussed are among the best. It supports the methods with studies and insight you can share with parents and players you may be coaching. The drills included are also excellent. Big thumbs up from me. I
