HASH(0x93805edc) étoiles sur 5 Great update to a classic work 23 janvier 2014

I was excited to see this classic updated and revised with added features. I've used it since I got my old keyboard kindle 2 . At that time the direct verse jump, which it employed, was essential; but with my new paperwhite and my kindle fire both adding touch screen capability the book needed revisingto take advantage of those features. And now here it is and I'm delighted. I use this regularly as an easily accessible resource to help me to get closer to the original text. I have some more sophisticated tools when I am at home in my office; but at church or in Bible studies I can use this to quickly check the syntax, meaning and the context of any passage free of the interpretation of modern translations. I might prefer a different text but I am comfortable with the textus receptus for most purposes. The ability to use this as a Greek concordance is also of immense value in checking other uses in the New Testament of the Greek words. And though of less frequent value I can even see how the Septuagint (the version of the Old Testament quoted by Jesus and the apostles) used those same Greek words. Thank you to the author for going to the effort to provide this updated version.

HASH(0x93808144) étoiles sur 5 The best Greek Bible on Kindle 21 mai 2014

I don't see how someone can leave a review for this work when they have only tried the sample (referring to some of the other reviews). That aside, this book deserves nothing short of 5 stars and here's why:

1. It is an excellent value. For $2.99 it would be worth it even if it were half as good as it is.
2. Navigation, at least on a Kindle Fire, is a breeze.
3. It includes the O.T. Septuagint and the N.T. in Greek.
4. Every single word has a rough translation next it and every work links to the Strong's Concordance entry of that word. From there you can see various definitions/translations of a particular word and how often and where it is used in both the Old and New Testaments.

This is the most useful tool I have found for studying the Bible on the Kindle.

The only complaint that I have is that it is not useful if you want to read straight through the text. Because every word in the Greek has an English counterpart next to it, it makes reading a bit more cantankerous. It is definitely a reference tool.

Overall, I'd recommend this to anyone who has a background in Koine Greek and needs a quick guide of sorts.

This dictionary is a classic example of how the digital version of a reference can outshine the paper version. Investigate possible alternative translations by drilling down to the very thorough dictionary with a click, and then back to the passage with a backspace. I have done occasional translating in the pre-digital days and this dictionary takes out a lot of painstaking labor in finding and analyzing all the moving pieces in a complex passage. My only grump is not with the book itself, but with laptop-based Kindle programs that, unlike PDF readers and so on, can only display one document at a time. In something like Bible interpretation and comparison, the need to have two, three, four, or more sources open for direct comparison is not unusual. Hopefully Amazon will rectify this odd omission in the near future.

The Koine Greek manuscripts used here are the closest to the Apostolic origin of the gospels, and understanding the oddities, prosody, and ambiguities of that language is the key to unlocking the tone and the intent of the original verses.

The Septuagint is the Koine Greek translation of the Old Testament in circulation during the 1st Century and the source of some, but not all, of the New Testament citations of the Old Testament. For the Christian faithful, the ability to browse the gospels in their oldest form is a wonderful experience. For the Old Testament scholar, even though the Septuagint is a translation of the original Hebrew, it is hundreds of years closer to that original Hebrew than our oldest Hebrew manuscripts.

Why wait for the next, better English translation? There is a lifetime of Bible exploration in this purchase.

HASH(0x938083fc) étoiles sur 5 The Bible Jesus & The Apostles used now available for English speakers too ! 1 février 2014

Awesome. The Bible in Greek was the one Jesus and The Apostles quoted almost exclusively in the early Church and it was the practice of Christians almost everywhere until Latin speakers began a different practice. Most of our modern Bibles sadly quote from a nonChristian Jewish source 1000 years after Christ , but this one goes directly to the Greek and lines up words in the Greek Old Testament with a concordance! Awesome!

Could do away with the debates among English speakers on which version is 'more holy' than others too :-)

Thank you Joshua. Might want to fix the sample of the kindle, since it goes directly to concordance and did not allow me to view the amazing content in this work until I bought it. Show a sample of Genesis and Matthew and concordance if you can.

Worth the money. Really helps seeing the English word next to the Greek instead of the Interlinear format and to have Strongs built in is a real bonus.
