HASH(0x960e8530) étoiles sur 5 So Much to Enjoy 1 août 2015

The end of the series is in sight. Now, writing about Charles Schulz and Peanuts for the 22nd time, I find there’s little else for me to say. Anyone that’s come along this far must feel the same way about this comic strip as I do.

Once again, there is so much to enjoy. What sticks most in my mind from this volume is: Charlie Brown lying in bed speaking to the ceiling, Snoopy falling ill and being visited by all his brothers, and Charlie Brown finally hitting that game winning home run. Hopefully, every reader can point to something here that makes him or her happy.

As a Charles Schultz aficionado, my husband has collected these books for several years. I believe this is the last of the series, and he was more than pleased to receive it. If you also enjoy "Peanuts," I anticipate that this small book will bring you pleasure.

This is the latest volume (at the time of review) of The Complete Peanuts. The layout and format of this book is the same as the earlier ones in the series, which works out well for presenting the strips at a reasonable size. And, of course, it's Peanuts. If you're a fan of the strip, then you will certainly enjoy this collection.

How reassuring.
Charlie Brown hit two home runs (pp. 39 & 79), winning two baseball games, off Roxanne Hobbs, granddaughter of a fictitious character who later said she let Charlie hit the ball.
I have always been sorry I did not push my ex-son-in-law down the stairs or shake Mr. Schulz’s hand. Schulz was, in my opinion at least, the acme of cartoonists. Writing 365 cartoons a year, it is not uncommon to come across a lame cartoon in the funny papers. Not so with “Peanuts…” This collection is no exception.
While it may be possible to divide the “Peanuts” opus into periods, the term integrity defines the complete works. Keep buying subsequent volumes.
Endorsed by Bill Clinton on the rear jacket, but still a brilliant publication.

Par Stephanie Mack - Publié sur Amazon.com
I have been a devoted fan of Peanuts and the work of Charles Schutz my entire life, going back to the early 60's when I used to cut out the daily strips and carefully paste them in a scrapbook. I especially loved the humor Schultz found in despair, humiliation and sarcasm....not that I celebrate these things...but sadly life is for most of us more about losing than winning, and here was someone offering me an incredibly important coping skill, laughter in the face of defeat and pain. As the years went by I continued to faithfully follow the strip, but rather lamented what I perceived as the loss of the pyschological edginess the strip seem to have from the late 50's through the early 70's. Peanuts continued to be my favorite comic strip but, it seemed to me, to increasingly embrace a gentler overall sensibility, one that more often made me smile rather than laugh out loud. Well, this volume blows that theory out of the water. As I was reading the first few pages, I was surprised and delighted to find myself laughing out loud and feeling like had I discovered the strip all over again. This volume has some of Schultz's strongest work and one can really sense that a lot of the humor is now coming from an older man. There is a depth to some of the observations the Peanuts crew are making in this collection that especially resonate for me as the decidedly older woman I have become. And Schultz was not afraid to offer up non sequiturs, silly sight gags or pretty much anything that he thought was funny during this last decade. So enjoy this book! It was penned by a true master of comic art. I miss Charles Schultz.
