Présentation de l'éditeur

**DUE TO FEEDBACK ABOUT THE GRAMMAR/PUNCTUATION THIS BOOK HAS BEEN PROFESSIONALLY PROOF READ AND EDITED ON 1st OCTOBER 2014**

Tom Fulwood, the future Earl of Standish discovers at the age of fifteen that marriage can destroy a man, namely his father. His mother prefers entertaining men in her bedroom, while her husband sits downstairs, unable or unwilling to respond to his wife’s inappropriate behaviour. From that day on Tom vows that no woman will hurt him the way his mother hurt his father. For the next seventeen years Tom works hard to become one of the most notorious rakes London society has ever seen, successfully keeping all the women of his acquaintance at a distance.

In 1810 twenty-four year old Isabelle Crawford had been brought up hearing stories of how much in love her dead parents were and had expected to find similar happiness when she came out in society. Reality was different to what she had imagined though, instead of love, she found fortune hunters and as a result left London to set up home in Bath. Her two elder brothers had supported her decision, although they would have rather seen their sister married instead of choosing what was seen by the ton as an eccentric decision, a young woman living a single life in Bath with a cousin as chaperone.

A potential marriage between Tom and Isabelle’s brother and sister, throws the couple together and sets in motion a chain of events that will see Tom fighting for his life and Isabelle being kidnapped by the very man that Tom had found in his mother’s bedchamber all those years ago.

Biographie de l'auteur

Audrey was born about two hundred years too late. She wants to belong to a time when men were men and women were dressed in gowns and could float, simper and sigh. In the real world she has always longed to write, writing a full manuscript when she was fourteen years old. Work, marriage and children got in the way as they do and it was only when an event at work landed her in hospital that she decided to take stock. One Voluntary Redundancy later, she found that the words and characters came to the forefront and the writing began in earnest. So, although she is at home more these days, the housework is still neglected and meals are still late on the table, but she has an understanding family, who usually shake their heads at her and sigh. That is a sign of understanding, isn’t it?

HASH(0x93d229cc) étoiles sur 5 Surprisingly good read 24 février 2013

I decided to read this because I was curious about the huge disparity in reviews. The book was only 99c so I had nothing to lose. I do recognise that there were a few grammar errors and a few other minor errors but they didn't seriously detract from what in essence was a good story. I liked the author's writing style and the book kept me interested despite the up's and down's between the main characters. The H had clearly suffered due to his upbringing and it gave him a fear of marriage and a distrust of women. The h hadn't met anyone she wanted to marry and had settled into an independent life in Bath. All of it was believable and I enjoyed the way the relationship developed between the H and h. This was a clean romance with only kissing and the rest being left up to our imagination.

This book was well worth reading especially in view of the price.

I was slightly suspicious when I decided to purchase this book. Because of the cheap price ($.99), I thought it would turn out to be a very short book or short story. Then I immediately thought it was going to a crummy, poorly written book. Happily, I was pleasantly surprised. This book was interesting and fun. The characters were believable and the story very entertaining. I especially liked the main characters, Tom and Isabelle and Mary and James.. I appreciated the attention to detail and respect for authenticity. I get so annoyed when authors use vernacular or 21st mind sets for period books. There was none of that. Thanks for a well-written and enjoyable book. It will be a book I will love reading again and again.

I really enjoyed this story, the language and the period descriptions rang true. The characters were interesting and even though flawed I was really desperate for them to get the ending they deserved. I didn't expect the twists that happened and it adds to the enjoyed when I'm reading and guess which way the story is going to go, only to find that it doesn't go that way at all! This is the first novel I have read by this author, but the characters and story were such that I am off to download the rest of her books now. Well worth a read

HASH(0x93d90dc8) étoiles sur 5 I have enjoyed other works by this author 6 août 2014

Could have been a five star book, but I could not finish it. I have enjoyed other works by this author, but not this one. If you are a fan of Georgette Heyer you will be frustrated with this book. Some of the dialog is convoluted or not to period. The scene where I gave up was a ball at some guy's house who had previously offered for the heroine. He practically tells her that he slept with the hero's mother and hints at a possible sexual attack on the heroine. The conversation is just not right for the period. The next time the heroine speaks with the hero increased my annoyance to the point where I just gave up on the book. This could be a really great story and began with a lovely premise and plot, but it needs some polishing.

HASH(0x93d90cf0) étoiles sur 5 Author needs a brush-up on grammar and a thesaurus, but the story was good 3 septembre 2014

Basically, this story was good. My criticism was that the author is apparently not acquainted with the use of commas, nor the use of semi-colons. Sentences such as, "Only what one would expect of someone in love, I am looking forward to making her acquaintance..." just annoy the crap out of me. (Yes, I am a snob, but I am too old to change now.) The fact that this happened over and over again in this book tells me that it was not a single mistake. Sometimes her adjectives were ill chosen: "taking in the rich decoration and fine wooden furniture...." Really? Wooden? Did they have any other kind in the Regency period? (I find these types of things very distracting; can you tell?) Several times, I had to reread a sentence more than once to understand the context. More than once, I thought, "Wouldn't he remember the name of the man he caught with his mother?", so that plot device was a bit lame. Still, it was a good story with good characters. With a brush-up on grammar and a thesaurus, hopefully future books will be better. I am going to read another book by this author...here's hoping I can put my snobbishness aside again and just enjoy the story. (How does one contact Amazon about proofreader positions?!)
