Présentation de l'éditeur

Open doors and open minds - Crossing is an unconventional romance, but a true love story nonetheless.

He stole her lipstick … and her heart.

Twenty-year-old Dani Walker can’t believe her luck when she’s paired up with the gorgeous Liam Garrett as her Acting I scene partner – or when he ends up in her bed. Being a Plain Jane with a mouth on her hasn’t exactly served Dani well in the guy department. In fact, she’s had nothing but one night stands. Still, she lets go of her insecurities and falls for Liam, despite feeling like he’s holding something back.

When Dani finally discovers Liam’s secret, she must learn the true meaning of accepting the ones we love for who they are, or risk losing the best thing that’s ever happened to her.

The Open Door Love Story novels can be read as standalones, but are best enjoyed when read in this order:

My Remedy

*There is absolutely no way I can write a review for this book and give it the true attention and praise it deserves without spoilers, it could never do it justice, so I apologize for giving anything away.

This book is really about so many things, there are quite a few messages. It's a story about love and acceptance, it's about self discovery and overcoming fears and for me at least, this was a book about forgetting about norms and discovering something outside of my comfort zone. And this was definitely outside of my comfort zone.

Dani is a character that I found very realistic and incredibly easy to relate to. Her insecurities are ones that so many women young and old can relate to. It's hard living in a world surrounded by beautiful people and feeling as if you could never compare to them and its even harder when so many others purposely making you feel that way. I found Dani's quick wit to be truly endearing. She had me laughing out loud throughout the book and her banter with Liam was great.

Liam is more of a complicated character. While he first appears to be your everyday boy next door type, he has a pretty big secret that we don't find out about until half way through. This is a make or break type of secret and I have to admit at first I was not sure how to look past it. He is sweet and charming and can be incredibly funny but at the same time he always seems to be holding back slightly. I really felt for what he was going through even if I couldn't connect fully with him.

****SPOILER ALERT!**********************************************************************************************************

Being a fan of Gay Romance I have read my share of cross dressing stories. This story however was very different. I found I had a harder time dealing with a heterosexual man dressing as a woman I had to really push past my preconceived notions about people who lived this lifestyle and pay attention to the story that was being told. I am glad that I did because when all was said and done I truly loved it.

The author has An incredible voice and a great ability to enable her readers to actually visualize the events unfolding as we read them. The dialogue is both entertaining and believable. The plot is fresh and unique and the characters are real and likable. This is a book I definitely recommend.

*Provided with a copy of this book for honest review.

I feel like I was sort of lead on about the subject matter of this book. It was only after I finished reading the book that I noticed any clues, as subtle as they were. The plot twist was extremely unexpected that's not for everyone. I totally respect anyone who chooses to live that lifestyle, but it's not attractive to me. I would never have picked up this book had I known what that twist really was.

I did, however, love the first half of the book. I actually devoured it. Once Liam's secret was revealed, however, I was shocked and no longer attracted to the hero. This seriously detracted from the rest of the book, I hate to say.

The writing was on point. I do think that more information should have been given regarding the subject matter of the book. Not everyone will enjoy this and I only hope that more people aren't shocked when they do discover what Liam is hiding.

I read this book in a day. I couldn't put it down! And now I want my very own tube of Perfect Red lipstick. ;)

This book goes beyond words. It speaks to your soul. I walked away feeling... feeling things I can't even begin to describe and it's been 12 hours since I finished it. It made me think and feel on a deeper level. Nothing since I read Hopeless by Colleen Hoover has made me think and feel this way. This book is powerful. And inspirational. And passionate. And beautiful. I loved meeting Dani and getting to know her. And Liam, I barely have words for how I feel about him. Their story is amazing. I was shocked by Liam's secret, though I realized looking back I should have figured it out. Dani's eventual acceptance of herself and of Liam caused tears to course down my cheeks.

If you're looking for the next IT book to read, this is it! It will make you see the world in a whole new light! And will make you believe that everyone deserves to be loved exactly as they are!

About a year ago, I read this author's "Glimmer" Trilogy and really enjoyed it. Hundreds of e books later, those characters and story have stuck with me. When this book popped up available for a free Amazon download, I jumped at the chance to give it a try. Boy am I happy I did! This book was so well written and addressed a subject I've not yet to see dealt with in a YA novel. When I bounced to the author's facebook page I noticed her banner said that she is a misfit writing about misfits for misfits. Well, Amen to that! I am a proud misfit and always have been. In my younger days I had self esteem issues such as the ones that inhabit the soul of the protagonist, Dani. She was very relatable for me. Liam is the perfect young man for her and that becomes more evident as the plot unfolds. Dani is an exuberant, intelligent, open minded, young woman and she is able to embrace diversity. Her best friend in high school was gay and she enjoys a romp in the local, college town, bar that features drag performers. Liam, straight, works there, so we know going in that he is open minded as well. He is very lucky to find his soul mate in Dani. I just love reading YA novels that are inclusive of all. A lifelong Californian, I have been an Oregon resident for the past two years so it was also fun to see that the book was set in Oregon. I also have been a fan of red lipstick since my mid-twenties and still proudly wear it still today now that I am fast approaching fifty nine. Long live red lipstick in all its incarnations!

I don't believe in writing reviews with spoilers so you will have to trust me that this is a good read about a sensitive subject most of us have no experience with. The author's note at the end of the book was a brave one for the author to share and I applaud her candour. This appears to be the first in a series with the next book due in May 2014. I can't wait!

My first complaint is that the writing style of this book is quite Juvenile, I don't know why people seem to think that they would relate better with their reading audience if they write like they talk...this writer shows no flair or skill in her choice of the wording in the English language, it is made up of slang and the lingo of the average teenage...mind you not one verging on adulthood. Even as a teenager I preferred books with a more lingo upgrade. As an adult now I find it very annoying.

My second complaint is the characters themselves, more manic depressant then anything....low self esteem does not cover it. We read books to take us away from these feelings, not add to it... and when I found out that they male main characters' hang up was cross dressing well that just tipped the cake.... i totally lost interest from there....sorry - it is just not a subject that interest me.

All in all, don't waste your time with this one... it isn't romantic, it isn't written well, it is interesting...move on.
