A écouter vite vite!!!

Très bon album. J avais décroché avec ce groupe depuis quelques années. Pour ma part, le changement de Line up a été bénéfique avec de superbes compositions

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Best Chimaira album since Resurrection 15 novembre 2013
Par Jeremy Brackeen - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD Achat vérifié
I've been a big fan of Chimaira for 10 years now ever since I was 19 years old when I first listened to both their 2001 debut release "Pass Out of Existence" and their breakthrough sophomore release from 2003 "The Impossibility of Reason" back in 2003, and since then I would get every forthcoming album of theirs in the years to come afterwards. I've also have had the pleasure of seeing them live at the Oxford Theatre down in Eau Claire back in late September, and they just absolutely killed it live onstage. I mean they were absolutely amazing, it was truly an amazing experience. Now, for Chimaira's seventh full length release, 2013's "Crown of Phantoms", we see frontman Mark Hunter being joined by an all new lineup consisting of Daath members Emil Werstler (lead guitar), Jeremy Creamer (bass), Sean Zatorsky (keyboards and electronics), ex-Dirge Within rhythm guitarist Matt Szlachta, and ex-Bleed The Sky drummer Austin D'Amond, and together this new lineup has managed to bust out what is in my opinion, the best Chimaira album since 2007's "Resurrection" by far. While "Crown of Phantoms" showcases a fresh sound here, but it still maintains the attitude that Chimaira have so well been known for throughout the years. The music on this album is just devastatingly brutal and heavy, and each song is just downright addicting and memorable. Mark Hunter proves that he still knows how to bring it as he powers his way throughout with his powerful, aggressive growls and screams as always. The riffs on here are absolutely heavy and devastating, and Emil Werstler's solos are just fantastic and very technically sounding too. This album truly shows that Emil definitely has his own unique lead guitar style, and very much different from former lead shredder Rob Arnold, and it definitely grabs your attention and just sucks you straight inside and gives you that awesome feel throughout. Elsewhere, Austin D'Amond delivers an outstanding and all around solid performance behind the drums with plenty of double bass action, great fills and solid beats throughout, and the keyboards and electronics on here also continue to be integral to Chimaira's sound, providing a layer of atmosphere somewhat unusual for bands of their ilk.

Highlights:

The album's opening track "The Machine" gets things going on a strong note beginning with a Fear Factory-like intro and then pulverizes the listener's ears with a barrage of heavy, energetic riffing and pounding beats, and there's also a great shredding solo from Emil thrown in midway through as well. Elsewhere other highlights here such as "No Mercy" (my favorite track) is highlighted by an addictingly tasty chorus, as well as crushing, pummeling riffs, angry growls, and another fantastic solo to boot, as well as "All That's Left is Blood" which features more punishing riffage, plus more menacing vocals, along with crushing and clobbering rhythms, plus another shredtastic solo, and a ferociously pumping chorus that will seriously pump your blood like nuts. Track five "Plastic Wonderland" is yet another highlight that features a dark and moody yet melodic clean guitar intro which then leads into some busy, churning riffs and drilling double kick action, plus there's yet another awesome Emil solo thrown in as well. Other highlights on this album here include track eight "Spineless" which boasts more clobbering riffs, aggressive drumming along with some rolling double bass fills, plus another wailing solo, and hate driven growls from Mark, elsewhere "Kings of the Shadow World" features more punishing riffage and pummeling double bass drumming, plus an impressive and spiraling sweep induced solo as well as a nice piano outro, meanwhile "Wrapped in Violence" is yet another blistering and heavy number anchored by slow yet devastating riffs and more sinister vocals that just crush and pummel your senses, and of course the album's epic and sinister final track "Love Soaked Death" which is highlighted by a steady, yet bone crushing groove along with more excellent riffing and drumming throughout, as well as another great solo and killer vocals to boot.

So in overall conclusion and a very positive one that is, "Crown of Phantoms" is an all around fantastic metal album that will just annihilate your senses with it's devastating and ever so impressive musicianship from start to finish. This album has gotten repetive listens in my CD stereo ever since I first got my hands on it back in late September after seeing them live, and it has definitely shaped up to be one of my favorite metal albums of 2013 as well. As I mentioned before "Crown of Phantoms" still manages to maintain the attitude that Chimaira are so well known for, while showcasing a fresh new sound and indeed proves that with this fresh new lineup, Chimaira are back better than ever. Anyways, if you're a longtime fan of Chimaira like myself, by all means "Crown of Phantoms" is a definite must have...Strongly Recommended!!!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 My Metal album of the Year 9 septembre 2013

I've been a big Chimaira fan for over 10 years, saw them life twice. I wasn't totally sure what I'd expect after the sudden line up change. But, WOW! was I pleasantly surprised. I think the new line-up did a great job understanding what Chimaira's type of metal is suppose to be. For example, I've noticed that since Resurrection, Chimaira took on the Meshuggah-influenced odd timed riffs. Particularly the songs "No Mercy" and "I Despise" showcase the new line-up's awesome ability to incorporate the odd timed riffs. I think the sounds effects have improved with Sean Z handling them now. The short instrumental "The Transmigration" is catchy in its own way. I like how some of the synthesizers are programed, some remind me of the synthesizers used in soundtrack for the first Terminator. And of course gotta love that 808 bass tone, glad they kept it, its be one of the signatures of the band's sound. If you have at least a fairly good system in you car, that where the 808 stands out the most. More so in the car, than you home stereo system.

When I listen to the album, I can tell a certain progression in the songwriting; even though its two different line-up's that I'm comparing. I think that goes back to the new line-up's ability to understand what kind of metal Chimaira offers. I hear this progression when I listen to the song "Wrapped in Violence". It reminds me of the song "Sphere" of Pass Out Of Existence, I mean that in the best way. But if you imagine a band that became better song writers of the years and decided to challenge themselves by incorporating what they learned over the years to the Pass Out Of Existence style of writing, if that makes sense. Speaking of the that, I play guitar and there is a guitar observation that I'd like to make. I love that fact that this line-up brought back the 7-string guitar. I was always a little upset that that old line-up seemed to run from the 7-string after they put out The Impossibility Of Reason.

All in all, the new version of Chimaira did a great job on this album. Much better then The Age Of Hell. Although there is one characteristic I noticed that they did not display. Us die hard Chimaira fans know what it is, right? No 10 minutes instrumentals like "Implements Of Destruction" or "The Heart Of It All". I have my fingers crossed that they are saving that for the next album (Please, oh please do one for the next album).

Favorite Tracks: "No Mercy", "I Despise", "Plastic Wonderland", "Spineless", "Kings Of The Shadow World", "Wrapped In Violence", "Love Soaked Death".

I've been a big Chimaira fan since before their Resurrection album hit. So, I was very skeptical when the entire band save the vocalist, departed. What came out of the turmoil and confusion is one of their best albums to date. Songs like "Plastic Wonderland" show off their technical ability while "Wrapped in Violence" will annihilate your senses with devastating riffs and epic vocals. I highly recommend purchasing this album as it will most likely climb the ranks of your favorite Chimaira albums.

I was skeptical to buy this album because I was pretty disappointed with "The Age of Hell", but the reviews convinced me, and they were spot on! It really is a return to "Resurrection" but with far more complex drums. It's a ton of fun to listen to. I've been headbanging in the car to nothing but this for the past week. The only reason i gave it 4 stars is because of my only 2 gripes. 1) The studio quality kinda sucks. It's poorly mixed, and it almost sounds like they exported the album in 128kbps audio. It's a bit of a let down, but is fairly easily ignored when the excellence of music is hammering your ears. 2) The lead solo's are nowhere near as good as they used to be.

If you can get over that, BUY THIS ALBUM. You'll love it. My favorite song is "Kings of the Shadow World". Listen to it every day.

I was very surprised by this album, as I wasn't a huge fan of Resurrection, good but not great. Also, I was never a big follower of Chimaira, only got into them in recent years, so I have some catching up to do. But this album is one of a kind, it has a unique sound and leaves you satisfied yet still wanting to listen to it repeatedly.
