The book begins abruptly: Will and Taylor are hiking and arguing. They are FBI special agents and Taylor is recovering from a shooting and they have taken a vacation. Taylor resents Will for something, we at first don't understand and Will wants both to take care of Taylor but also hit him to instill some common sense in him.

Little by little we understand that other than partners they are also friends and maybe something more: both Will than Taylor are gay, but between them there wasn't nothing more than teasing and glaring until the last fatal night, the night before Taylor's accident. And then there wasn't a right moment to face the argument, until now: in the open space of mountains all seem to be free from restrain, words and thoughts. And Will and Taylor seem to not be able to do other than yell to each other and offend each other.

When they only want to understand how they can go on or move on on their relationship, real world interposes between them, in the guise of a cold case: a robbery to a casino, ended with the lost of the spoil. And now the thieves want it back.

The book is not very long, little more than 100 pages, but I think it's more sexy than previous Josh Lanyon's books. There is actually only one real sex scene, and it's hot, but since as I said the book is not very long, and the building tension that promises the real scene and the simmering ashes that follow are both long and detailed, the scene is the apex of the book. And it's also very good, very... erotic.

Taylor and Will are both strong characters. I think this is the real problem: they fear to give a chance to their relationship since both fear to lose independency and the alpha male role in the match. But they are not equal in their dominance: Taylor is an hot head, a man of action and someone who is pretty driven by instinct; instead Will is more caring and a thinker, he likes to analyze everything before taking a decision. So maybe, if they manage to balance their powers, they can find a common path.

Dangerous Ground is not a mystery, is more an action romance. And the romance is a big ingredient of this book. But even if they talk about feelings and love, not Will or Taylor lose their masculinity.

I've read several books by Josh Lanyon. What sets him apart from other authors in this genre is that he writes about real people with real emotions. In fact, I read his books for the characters he creates, not for the plots. Lanyon has a control over writing that is not that easy to achieve. His narratives maintain the proper tone at all times. Yet, the words are never stilted or out of place to the characters or the situation being written about. I've never encountered any stereotypical writing in any of his books.

Dangerous Ground is the first in this series. It is a short piece I read in one sitting. Yet, it left me longing for much more material that explores these characters' lives. Lanyon is one of the best genre writers I've ever come across. This book is one of his best efforts. I highly recommend anything he writes. You will be treated to fine writing, likeable and believable characters and excellent storytelling.

Liked this one from page one. Spoiler alert for those who don't want to know what the book is actually about.

This one starts with Taylor MacKenzie and Will Brandt on a camping trip where they discover a plane thats been there for a while.

After reading the tail number they realize that the plane was the escape vehicle used by four people who robbed a casiono. They made off with 2.3 million dollars. During that escape two deputy sheriffs were shot. No sign of that plane or the money had ever been found until now.

Will and Tay were surprised as hell to find this plane. The plane with the body of the pilot still in the cockpit. He was shot in the back of the head. The robberty took place four months ago.

MacKenzi and Brandt are partners and have been for three years. They work for the Bureau of Diplomatic Security and are out in the widerness on vacation. Both men are gay but have never been anything other than partners. This is something Tay would like to change.

Taylor was shot and almost died six weeks earlier. He's still not in the best health and he hates camping. He's a city boy born and bred. The only reason he's here is because Will wanted to come.

Will on the other hand loves camping.

They make a note on the map about the location of the plane and head out. Crossing a field into the woods they spy the remains of a parachute. The man in the harness is dead. Will goes up and gets his backpack. A backpack loaded with 2.3 million dollars.

So begins a great read.

This one has Tay, Will, the money which they hide, Orrin, Dorrie, Stritcher, three people who are searching for the money, a Tay who is shot again, a Will who's a prisoner, a mad dash down a mountain, an escape, a Tay who wants Will as his boyfriend, a Will who isn't keen, a Tay who escapes and Tay and Will in a fight for their lives.

Five Stars and boy I thought only men and woman had problems of the heart. Not hardly LOL

Let me preface this with I love Josh Lanyon, I buy everything he writes, and his weaker books are stronger than most other writers. Phew... But... he has written several series and stand alones with the motif of erotica and crime/mystery, especially with agents of some kind. I loved the Adrien English series and I am so enjoying the Holmes and Moriaty series. As his series go, this one is not my favorite.

Here we meet Taylor MacAllister and Will Brandt, men who have been partners for 3 years, and Taylor wants more... You know, one thing that is my peculiar problem here is that Taylor and Will kept blurring, I couldn't keep them distinct, which one wanted what, which one had which characteristic? Adrien and Jack, (from the Adrien English series) Kit and JX, (from Holmes and Moriaty) even the boys from Fair Game, all seemed really distinct to me, but here I kept confusing them, and even writing this review I had to go back and look up their names.

Which sounds like faint praise. Actually, I enjoyed this book, start of a kick ass series. There is much more action here than Lanyon usually does. I just didn't adore it as much as I have his other series. As always, I like the relationship dynamics more than the mystery/adventure. I did find the endurance the boys were required to show during their camping trip was far and beyond what a human body could really endure, but I did like getting to know them and will follow them through future books.

I really liked this story and actually wish it was longer. I fell in love with the characters and did buy the sequel because of it. There wasn't an over abundance of sex scenes like I've seen in other books of similar genre. I enjoy seeing the characters fighting their "inner demons", emotions for each other, and a decent plot rather than just a series of sex scenes. Because of these two books with Taylor and Will, I would probably buy other books by this author as well.
