Description du produit

HASH(0x9b93a9fc) étoiles sur 5 `Days of defiance' is the absolute reason to feel proud for being a `Firewind' fan! 26 octobre 2010
Par Nikiforos V. Skoumas - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
I bought this album with shaking hands; I so much wanted to believe that `Firewind' would come up with another amazing album equal to `Allegiance' and `The premonition'. I have total faith in the undisputed abilities of Gus G, and the band yet distractions such as side projects/bands could have easily affected the result.

Allow me to say, I feel totally rewarded by `Firewind' and their brand new album as it turned out to be what I hoped for and so much more. For that matter, `Days of Defiance' will do justice to any long-term fan of the band- It is the king of album that gives one more than expected.

Before moving into technical details, one can not escape but advice that you choose the limited edition including three bonus tracks, raising the play list to 16 tracks (the largest `Firewind' album to date) coming in a book-like cover with bonus sticker and guitar pick.

As the artwork very much hints, `Firewind' has gone back to the sound of their first two albums. Such shift implies a more guitar oriented album and far more aggressive vocal performance and lyrical concept that come with it. So you can rightfully expect more guitar melodies, faster and more complex arpeggios as well as furious heavy metal riffs. To be fair, one has to acknowledge that the presence of keyboards has been substantially decreased, while the drums are not as largely produced as on the previous two albums (although that could very much be attributed to the new entry of Michael Ehre on drums). It has to be clear however that German drummer Michael Ehre is nothing less than a drum prodigy laying a very colorful rhythm performance featuring some really unconventional patterns and very well thought of drum leads/fills (these characteristics are perfectly audible during the instrumental passages and pieces). Beyond Ehre, the rest of the line up has remained unchanged: lead singer Apollo Papathanasio, key player Bob Katsionis, bass player Petros Christo and the undeniable star of the band Gus G. a guitar hero at its own right -with the potential to become a genuine metal legend.

Going back to the musical approach, `Days of Defiance' is probably the most direct album in `Firewind's catalogue as you will never have to wait for a big chorus; and it is epic chorus after epic chorus form the first song all the way to the last. Put simply `Days of defiance' is too good and too big for one to digest upon first play. You will most likely find yourself loosing count of just how may amazing choruses, melodies and riffs you are offered throughout `Days of defiance'.

Every song is a gem on this album; I do not dare think how will they be able to top `Days of Defiance' with their next album.

HASH(0x9b93aac8) étoiles sur 5 Great follow-up, same high quality. 4 novembre 2010

I think "Days of Defiance" is a great album overall, of the same high quality that the previous two albums were ("Allegiance", 2006 and "The Premonition", 2008). Once again, the band shows lots of talent, and what's even more important, the ability to work together as a band, without weak links. Not to take a single step down from a previous great record is a very tough task for any band, but Firewind has succeeded completely in doing so.

The heavy/power/melodic metal that we are presented with here is clean, polished, well-produced, and at the same time raunchy and with an attitude. Heavy riffs, nice solos, powerful melodic vocals, non-distorted production, good song writing both musically and lyrically...these elements are present all throughout this album. From the heavy intro song, to the very addictive "Embrace the Sun", to the emotional "Broken", to the insane instrumental "SKG", to the final breathtaking solo on "When All is Said and Done", this album does not give much room to mediocrity at all. Let me be the one to say that to find music of this great quality is pretty darn rare these days.

A very strong 4.5 stars out of 5. This is a great band, I can't wait to see them Live if/when they decide to tour in the U.S. If you are new to this band, I also *highly* recommend their previous record, "The Premonition".

HASH(0x9b93af00) étoiles sur 5 The flame still burns! 26 octobre 2010
Par Justin G. - Publié sur Amazon.com

Greek power metal band Firewind is back with Days of Defiance, their sixth studio album and the first since founding guitarist Gus G. was tapped as Ozzy Osbourne's new axe-slinger. I was afraid that Gus's new role with Ozzy might put an end to Firewind, which in recent years had become one of power metal's brightest stars, but given his prolific history (see also Nightrage, Dream Evil and Mystic Prophecy) I shouldn't have worried.

Gus G. has kept the Firewind lineup responsible for the amazing Premonition album mostly intact (Michael Ehre is now on drums), so my expectations were high for this album. Days of Defiance continues with the same basic sound heard on Premonition and Allegiance, though I have to say it doesn't immediately resonate the way those albums did. The key elements are there - Gus's trademark guitar pyrotechnics, the crushing rhythms, Apollo Papathanasio's increasingly powerful vocals (seriously, this guy gets better each year) and those amazing melodies - but it doesn't quite have the same magic that made the previous Firewind albums instant favorites. "World on Fire" and "Cold as Ice" are amazing singles, and the instrumental "SKG" is astonishing (and I'm not easily impressed by instrumentals), so there are obviously some great songs on Days of Defiance. Taken as a whole though, it just doesn't seem like an essential album. It may just be that the band set the bar too high with Premonition. I will say this though; I've had the album for a couple of weeks now and I like it a little more each time I hear it.

It's not quite as good as Premonition, but Days of Defiance is still a first rate power metal album and is a more than worthy addition to the Firewind legacy. If you're already a Firewind fan, this is a must-have album. If you're new to the band, you're in for a treat!

HASH(0x9ac712e8) étoiles sur 5 Great Band & an Awesome release 23 février 2011

If, you haven't listend to this band, you should, from the opening track Firewind takes no prisoners! If, you like the new style of guttural vocals over roaring guitars, this one isn't for you! If, your preference is a real vocalist, great bass & drum interplay overlayed with a guitarist with skill/vision then this is what you're looking for. The tracks, "World of Fires", "Chariot", "Heading for the Dawn", & "Cold as Ice" are my personal favorites. "SKG" is an amazing instrumental track worth a serious listen as well. Gus G is the unquestioned leader of Firewind & one listen to this CD will prove to you why Ozzy grabbed this guy! If, you want a great cd, love a great guitarist with an awesome vocalist,& great rythmn section (great double bass drums!!!), you need this cd in your collection!

HASH(0x9ac71294) étoiles sur 5 Nothing a hardcore Firewind fan hasn't heard before 24 mars 2011
Par Sean Thomas - Publié sur Amazon.com
The Bad: Half of the songs are forgettable ("Kill In The Name Of Love" 's lyrics are so cheesy its cringe worthy, "Embrace The Sun" is a ripoff of one of FW's best songs "Falling to Pieces", and not even a good ripoff. The ballad "Broken" is a passable ballad.)

The Good: Now, with that said, there are definitely some great songs on this album. The Ark Of Lies is a blistering opener, World On Fire (the first single) is another great song. Heading for the Dawn is my favorite, it even has its own little intro track. This album also has an instrumental (FW's previous album The Premonition did not have an instrumental). SKG is, in my opinion, FW's best intro since Fire and the Fury, it goes back and forth between breakneck speed and sort of mellowing out with ethereal sounds. Apollo's vocals, while slightly less strong than they were on Allegiance and The Premonition, are still very good. Gus G as usual can still come up with amazing solos like nobody's business.

Unfortunately, even the standout tracks on this album aren't nearly as memorable (or as good) as ones on their previous albums. I know for many people this will be their introduction to Firewind (because of Gus G's newfound fame as Ozzy Osbourne's guitarist) but if you think this is a great album, then you'll be totally mind-blown by albums such as Allegiance and Burning Earth (the latter of which had a different vocalist) which I believe are their two best albums.

I've been a huge huge Firewind fan since Allegiance and i'm pretty disappointed in Days of Defiance. Overall this album seems somewhat half ass, literally. While there are certainly good songs on DoD, there isn't much that the hardcore Firewind fan hasn't heard yet.

Top 3 songs: Heading For The Dawn, The Ark Of Lies, World On Fire
