Présentation de l'éditeur

If you like John Grisham's twists and turns and James Patterson's page-turning thrills, you'll love Joel Goldman's The Dead Man, the second book in the Jack Davis Thriller series!

"A masterful blend of rock-solid detective work and escalating dread. The Dead Man is both a top-notch thriller and a heart-rendering story of loss, courage and second chances. I loved it."
Robert Crais, NYT Bestselling Author

"The Dead Man is one of those rare novels you will be tempted to read twice: the first time to enjoy and the second time to appreciate how Goldman put the pieces together. The hours spent on both will be more than worth it."
Joe Hartlaub, Bookreporter.com

When people in a study of the human brain start to die exactly as they have dreamed they would die, Jack Davis crosses paths with a serial killer, taking him onto both sides of the law and into the path of a murderer's terrifying rage.

Think John Grisham meets James Patterson and you've got Joel Goldman in The Dead Man!

"Goldman's realistic setting, fast-paced dialogue and chilling plotting will have you wanting to read more in this gritty suspense series."
Cindy Bauer, bookpleasures.com

"The Dead Man has all the plots and twists one may expect from a Grisham novel and the pace of a James Patterson crime story."
Carolyn LeComte, Curledup.com

It doesn't get any better than that, so grab The Dead Man and don't let go!

And use your other hand to grab Shakedown, the first book in the Jack Davis Thriller series. When FBI Agent Jack Davis investigates a mass murder, a leak of crucial information and his imploding personal life throw him into the ultimate danger zone - where truth lies at the heart of betrayal

Don't miss the Lou Mason Thriller series by Joel Goldman featuring trial lawyer Lou Mason.

When a troubled young woman turns herself in for murder, Lou Mason takes the case - yet something about her story doesn't add up. To catch a killer, Lou dives into a sordid world of money, drugs and a devastating black market where the price for the truth is paid in blood. A riveting, page-turning romp in the tradition of James Patterson!

Ryan Kowalczyk denied slaughtering a young couple even after his best friend turned against him, sending him to death row. In Deadlocked, Lou Mason is hired to prove Ryan's innocence and killer does whatever it takes to stop him. HASH(0x8f2aca5c) étoiles sur 5 Good - but OH so predictable! 1 juillet 2009

I enjoyed reading this book mostly because of the characters. I loved the interaction between Jack and Lucy most of all. HOWEVER - the killer's identity was so obvious - almost from the beginning. Most of the time when this happens I generally give the book only one or two stars - but because the characters were so interesting and the "read" pleasurable I gave it the three stars.

This book really shouldn't be compared to Grisham or Patterson. It had a great storyline, but it was soooo predictable! I knew who the killer was within 15 minutes. After that, I felt like I was just waiting for the characters to catch up. This could have been easily avoided by omitting just a couple of scenes.

HASH(0x8c2972a0) étoiles sur 5 3.5 star mystery thriller 9 juin 2009

Entertaining thriller featuring a very interesting protagonist!
Former FBI agent, disgraced Jack Davis, suffers from a neurological ailment that causes tics (involuntary spasms and muscle movements) and brain fog. Nevertheless, he is hired by billionaire Milo Harper to investigate why participants in a dream study he has funded have started to turn up dead - and have died in just the very way that they had nightmares about! The body count rises and Jack teams up with his landlady, a former cop named Lucy who was jailed for stealing diamonds from a crime scene, and the search for the killer is on.

The story is set in Kansas City, my hometown, and that added another interesting layer to the novel as I had fun identifying with the landmarks, streets, and other familiar details. The story blends past events to current circumstances in a well crafted tale but there is one main unanswered question at the end!

The characters are the best part of this mystery and I think there might be a sequel using them - at least I hope so.

Enjoy!

HASH(0x8cd1bb04) étoiles sur 5 A good entertaining series to keep reading. 25 mars 2016

I enjoyed this book as much as the first one I read about Jack Davis. Joel Goldman keeps the pace fast and the story interesting. I have some trouble with his character's disability being believable in some of the circumstances he gets himself into but it does add to the mystery. I find that I care about him and that makes the story more memorable. This one has so many twists and characters that I was not able to guess who done it until it was revealed. I read a lot of mysteries and it takes a clever twist to keep me guessing. I will continue to read about Jack Davis and thank Joel Goldman for his entertaining series.

HASH(0x8c2c2408) étoiles sur 5 Well written mystery that begs to have the question asked why? 13 juin 2013

This is the story of Jack Davis, a former FBI agent, who is looking into the deaths of two, then three people that are involved in a dream study. Jack is also having to deal with an unexpected landlady, a girlfriend who's not thrilled with the job, repercussions from his daughters death and of course his disability which causes his body to spasm uncontrollably - especially when his body and mind are stressed. I suspected from the beginning who the killer was and normally that would make me give a book a one or two star but in this case the the author did such a good job of writing I wanted to read anyway - mostly to find out why the killer did it. A good story and I will read the first in the series.
