Présentation de l'éditeur

In this dessert recipe book, Chef Lisa Joy Taylor takes you and your taste buds on a mouthwatering dessert tour of the United States!

In this dessert recipe collection, each of the 50 states features two recipes that are representative of that state for one reason or another (100 recipes) including a great variety of cakes, pies, tarts, cookies, bars, sorbet, ice cream and more!

In addition to ingredients lists and cooking instructions for each recipe, you will also discover an interesting tidbit about the history of the recipe or its’ main ingredient and sometimes both! Here are a couple examples:

Missouri Black Walnut-Caramel Tart

Producing nearly 50 percent of the world’s Black Walnuts, Missouri is the world’s largest black walnut producer. Black walnuts have a stronger flavor than English walnuts and have thus become a popular ingredient in Missouri’s baked goods.

Maryland Smith Island Cake

With ten layers of cake and ten layers of rich frosting, Smith Island Cake is not only the state dessert of Maryland but an irresistible, mouthwatering confection that harkens back to the English torte, from which it is believed to have originated. Smith Island Cake is usually iced with chocolate frosting but variations made with banana, orange and coconut frosting have become popular.

Here are some more examples of the interesting and taste-tempting dessert recipes you will discover in this book:

Tennessee Blackberry Jam Cake

Idaho Sweet Potato Sorbet

Montana Mocha Crumb Cake

Louisiana King Cake

Rhode Island Butterscotch Tart

A few state classics like Florida Key Lime pie, New York Cheesecake, and Georgia Peach Cobbler are also included but you’ll also find many yummy recipes in here that will be new to you and that you have yet to taste!

Please note that this is the 2nd. edition of the book and contains updated information. The were also a number of typos in the first edition which have been corrected!

Join Lisa Joy Taylor on a dessert adventure and learn a little more about America while you savor the many interesting and fun desserts in this dessert recipe book. Enjoy!

Author Lisa Joy Taylor takes you on a tasty tour of the United States through her cookbook America's Most Delicious Dessert Recipes State by State. While some may disagree with her recipe choices, as with all things it is a matter of opinion, I found her cookbook a delight to read. Taylor offers a lovely introduction for each state's recipes and then offers the recipe itself.

Here are some samples of recipes found by state:

Alabama: Alabama Pecan Pie
Arizona: Sopapilla Cheesecake
Hawaii: Kulolo
Massachusetts: Cranberry Cream Pie
Nebraska: Nebraska Black Walnut Ice Cream
Rhode Island: Rhode Island Butterscotch Tart
Wyoming: Chocolate Prune Cake

You will find an alphabetical listing for the interactive table of contents.

Great concept that is poorly executed because of mechanical and grammatical errors. Not sure that the state recipe is an accurate reflection of the state's dessert. Please read the following examples.

I have lived in seven different cities in Michigan and traveled the state extensively and have never had Chestnut Pie. So as a retired Language Arts teacher, I researched where this pie originated and it is Travese City. When I think of Traverse City I think of cherries, not chestnuts.

I have also lived in Illinois for 10 years and never saw Black Walnut Cream Cake on a menu. I live 30 miles from Indiana and have traveled that state from north to south and east to west and have never had Blueberry Lemon Bars. Actually have not seen too many blueberry farms in Indiana, since most of them are in SW Michigan.

If you are looking for interesting recipes and grammatical errors do not bother you, then this book is for you. If you have not traveled from coast to coast and want an accurate dessert for each state, then this book is not for you.

What a great idea - Recipes from each state! We are a very patriotic family and like to teach the kids and grandkids about our nation. Now when we have our family get togethers, we can celebrate with desserts from one of our beautiful states. I can't wait to serve the Georgia Peach Cobbler and the Southern Alabama Pecan Pie. I remember going to Boston and having a piece of Boston Creme Pie at one of the great restaurants there. Now we can share our history tour of Boston with the family and top it off with Boston Creme Pie that I make at home. Thank you Chef Lisa for this great cookbook.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Fun and delicious for the family! 23 février 2013

This is a great dessert book that the entire family can have fun with. For one, the desserts are yummy. More than that, though, the book provides a great educational tool to use with kids and they don't even realize it. Find a dessert they want to make, pull out the map and casually make it a teachable moment. Then enjoy making and eating your State creation!
