Ideal 23 inch Monitor for General Office and Home Use

I tried a number of monitors before finally settling on the Dell and for me it is certainly the best monitor in the price range. It seems much better built than other similar products and the monitor controls are far more user friendly. Set up is also extremely straight forward. I am not a gamer, so I simply wanted an effective monitor for home and office use and this certainly delivers.

BUILD QUALITY
The monitor comes with a very sturdy stand which is much heavier and therefore much more stable than the usual stands. In particular, it's a much stronger stand than that found on Viewsonic and Iiyama monitors.

The monitor simply clicks onto the stand, which is fully adjustable. You can adjust the monitor's height, swivel it and you can also pivot it into a portrait position. I find this is particularly useful, because for many documents it is far easier to look at them in portrait mode than in landscape. (You can set up a shortcut button on the screen to quickly change the computer screen view from landscape to portrait. If you have a Dell computer which I don't, it's even easier, you can set it up so that the screen view alters automatically when you pivot the monitor into a portrait position.)

If you do want to put the monitor on a separate mount, it has the VESA screw fixings at the back.

SET UP
This is very easy. The monitor comes with a disc, which sets up everything you need. The monitor works out of the box, but you can further tweak the settings for your own particular needs. The great thing about this monitor is all the controls are easily accessible on the front of the screen, so they are very easy to operate. This is in sharp contrast to the Viewsonic and the Iiyama which are far less user friendly, the Iiyama in particular drove me nuts because the controls were actually under the screen, it was incredibly easy to either hit the wrong control or turn off a function I was trying to turn on.

SCREEN QUALITY
Again compared to the Viewsonic and Iiyama the screen quality compares very favourably. The Iiyama was definitely the worst of the three it seemed very flat and dark in comparison. The Viewsonic wasn't bad, but as previously mentioned because the controls are much less user friendly, to precisely and accurately tweak the controls to get the picture you want is definitely harder. (The Dell screen is full HD (1080P) 1920x1080 at 60Hz with 6ms Response Time.)

The Dell offers a range of preset viewing modes:

These can be further customised using the brightness and contrast controls. Or if you prefer you can completely customise the image and set the RGB colours yourself.

CONNECTIVITY
This is excellent and far better than the Iiyama or the Viewsonic. The monitor has:

1 x HDMI
1 x VGA
1 x DP

GUARANTEE
Finally, the monitor comes with a three year guarantee.

PRICE
I wouldn't normally include this information in a review, but something very strange seems to be happening with the price of this monitor at the moment. Originally, I bought it from a third party seller on Amazon for £169, so I wasn't very pleased the very next day to see the price had dropped to £151! So I contacted the third party seller on Amazon to ask if they would price match. They weren't prepared to price match, so I sent the monitor back. I then noticed every day, the price on the monitor was dropping by roughly a pound. This continued for just over a week until the monitor cost had gone down to £139 and then immediately it started to gradually go up in price again and now it's back to £151 on Amazon. And on other sites too, this same pattern seemed to be happening. I paid £134.20 for my monitor and, since then, as with Amazon, the site I bought my monitor from has also put up the price. So it's worth watching the fluctuating price levels before you buy this monitor.

I bought this because I do graphic design as a hobby, and the contrast on my laptop monitor is so bad I was cleaning up images with white backgrounds, posting them on my phone and noticing on the much better phone screen that there were loads of dark spots I simply couldn't see on the laptop. I absolutely love it- it's so easy to adjust the height and tilt, if you're so inclined you can orientate it to portrait mode (useful for designing flyers perhaps) and the contrast, colours and brightness are fully adjustable and, in the right mode, absolutely true to life. I'm not too impressed with movie mode, which is straight up blue- everyone looks like they've been recently re-animated from the dead- but with so many other pre-sets and custom settings, it's a non-issue. I love it so much I'm toying with the idea of buying another and having a 3 monitor setup, despite the fact I absolutely do not need 3 monitors :D

Said that the box contains an HDMI cable and a VGA cable inside. For some reason, I received a Displayport to Mini-Display port cable. Why would I need that?

Sucks I would've given it a 5/5 since the offer is a bargain but this cable issue means I need to use it.

I bought this monitor not realising it did not have sound included, however a quick search on amazon provided a pair of excellent speakers compatible with this screen. All Very easy to set up with my small laptop.

The OSD onscreen display on this is the best I've seen, very easy and simple to use. Overall a great looking office monitor.
