Présentation de l'éditeur

Gangaji, the American-born teacher who has influenced the lives of thousands of people through her retreats and public events, helps us to reconcile the observations and questions that arise along the spiritual path. Like a precious gem, The Diamond in Your Pocket cuts through what is false and illuminates what is true - a brilliant series of contemplations and insights you will want to hold dear and return to again and again. --Ce texte fait référence à l'édition Broché .

Biographie de l'auteur

Gangaji is an American-born spiritual teacher dedicated to sharing the path of freedom through simple and direct self-inquiry, as taught by the legendary sage Sri Ramana Maharshi of India. In 1990, Gangaji (then Antoinette Roberson Varner) entered this lineage through Sri H.W.L. Poonjaji. Since that time, she has traveled the world, holding gatherings and retreats with spiritual seekers of all faiths. --Ce texte fait référence à l'édition Broché .

After over 40 years of spiritual seeking, I find myself drawn, if not exclusively, mostly to non-dualists. What separates Gangaji from the rest of the pack, in my opinion, is her compassion for the human condition.

What I get from most other non-dualistic teachers is a distancing. I know that, at the core, these other teachers are probably full of love. But, for me, it doesn't always come out. What comes out (FOR ME) is distance. Parsons, for example. If he is asked if we should meditate, the questioner is likely to get something like: "Who is meditating? There is no connection between meditating and liberation. If it happens, it happens. Nothing you do in the physical brings liberation. There is no reason to do anything, in fact." All ultimately true, of course. Furthermore, that answer is totally appropriate for a small group of people that Tony appeals to, and my hunch is that he couldn't care less if he ever gets a large following. So it works. It's fine. (So the next question is usually: "if nothing in the physical has any connection to liberation, why I should pay you money and go to your meetings?" But... he can explain that, too.)

What Gangaji gives (again, to me. It's all pretty personal.) is love AND a beautiful teaching that I totally vibe to. Ask Parsons about the ego and (IMHO) you will get a lecture. Ask Gangaji, and she might talk about how it began, understandably, as the infant had to discern between good milk and poisonous milk. How it grew. The symptoms and problems it brings up. All with love and understanding. Yes, it can be argued that all such discussion is couched in dualistic terms, and that such teachings can suck us further into the world. (Hey... words are dualistic.) But it is VERY useful to me. Her bottom line teaching is that all is one, and that's where I want to go.

One thing, though. Timing is everything. I probably picked this book up at the perfect time for me. I have a hunch that 20 years ago, I would have started reading her and not gotten through 100 pages. A year ago, I would have probably thought her to be very good. A year from now, who knows? (Right this minute, I put Diamond on my top one or two all time favorites.)

Another aside: if you like this book, and are aurally inclined, buy the CD's. Her voice is up there with Tolle on the "soothing" scale.

The American spiritual teacher known as Gangaji, in the tradition of the Indian sage Ramana Maharshi (her teacher's teacher), invites us to inquire deeply into the question, "Who am I?" This book is a compilation from conversations with the author at public meetings and retreats over the past fifteen years. It is personal and readable, written in short chapters each of which holds enough depth for one day. I read a chapter each morning and found it quite satisfying. I might sum up what this teacher does by saying she assists you in giving yourself fully to this moment, and you thereby discover the truth of who you are. Of course, in so doing we must unwind all the things that we do to avoid giving ourselves to this moment. Gangaji is skillful at that unwinding.

I have not finished the book as yet, but within a few pages I knew it was going to be a gem. Gangaji's ability to clearly put into words pointers to the essence of life both material and spiritual rivals that of Eckhart Tolle. This is the highest praise I am able to convey. As with all spiritual matters, words never seem quite sufficient to reveal what is infinite and eternal, but Gangaji's words come close, very close.

A beautiful book that is written in a western style that I can relate to. I read a little each day in this wonderful book so as to point me back to myself. I tend to get caught up in my own stuff and the world and miss the deeper, and much more "peaceful and free" me.

I have read a zillion books of the spiritual/mystical variety. Thought I had read it all...thought I had heard it all. Almost didn't buy yet ANOTHER book on the same subject but am so glad I bought this one. Succinct. Resonant. It says it all and does so so beautifully. My spiritual seeking reawakened once I started this book and those I have gifted with the book or recommended the book to have thanked me each and every time we make contact. Each sentence rings with Truth and Clarity. Music for the Soul. For anyone who thinks the search led nowhere, or that the path comes to a dead end...take it from this jaded New Yorker, this magical book will revive, renew and offer insights and awareness like no other. I gave the book to a Jesuit Priest who is a magnificent teacher himself (and has been for over 50 years) and he told me it was powerful and meaningful and he was thrilled to have read it. Give yourself a major gift in this lifetime, read this!
